Sara, an IT professional & Stephen a graphic designer and artist are world-traveling Canadians who dreamt of moving to Europe, and France in particular. In 2020 they were working from home when Stephen turned to Sara and popped the question she was longing to hear, “What would have to be true for us to buy a chateau in France?” They searched online for months viewing hundreds of properties. They narrowed their search and toured some properties when they happened upon the one that captured our hearts, Château de Saint-Germain-des-Prés. A year later they made the move to France to start their new adventure in our beautiful Château. They created “Manor and Maker” to reflect the two sides of their adventure. One, to live as chateau owners with all the ups and downs and two, to pursue their passions as makers, creating art in all its forms. They will invite others to come together, united by their passions, to share in this adventure. We invite you to join us too, as we bring our dreams to life. Welcome to Manor & Maker.
The princesses were beautiful in their gowns ! ❤ The knight in shining armour was every girls dream !❤ Great video !
A very fun event. I’m betting there are reenacting guys who would enjoy it too.
Merci beaucoup!
Our tradition (British, Scottish, Canadian) is to give a coin with the knife so your friendship won’t be cut. 😊
I love me a good superstition! And we love Kiersten, so we're here for it.
In Quebec it is the same, so your relationship wont be cut. Scissors as well!
Yes this is the same in our family
My mother, who is from the south of France also had that superstition where you have to give a coin when you got something sharp like a knife or anything that could cut for the same reason that you didn’t want to cut the friendship or relationship
Same in our Australian family.
In my Southern family, you always "buy the blade" exchange a penny for the blade to prevent the "ties" of love and friendship from being cut by the blade.
How much fun, those dresses are beautiful.
I think so too!
Swords, princess gowns, a knight in literal shining armor, photography--my kind of fun!
I LOVED the whole armor lesson!
So interesting, right? We love learning new things!
We know it as not to "cut the friendship"
How interesting! I always wonder where these superstitions originate, and why they catch on....
What a special time you provide to your guests! They must have been over the moon with happiness. One thing I have to point out - it's wonderful that the dress designer has dresses for all body types. As a curvy gal that is always special to see. Top all that with your wonderful hospitality and delicious food, prefection.
This is what we wanted for our business. Magical experiences
Ed looks amazing in his suit of shining armour.
The silver and purple dress looked fabulous on you.
I loved those dresses.
Thank you for another enjoyable educational video.
Looking forward to your next video.
Watching from England.
So many wonderful costumes 🥰
Beautiful gowns!
Love the knight armour, Ed looked amazing. The princess dresses were beautiful. Who wouldn’t feel like a princess in them? Thanks for another fun and creative vlog ❤❤❤❤❤
You're always welcome Rosemarie!
Yes I agree with the reason to give a coin is not to cut your friendship! Well done everyone!
What fun! You need to have a medieval event with all of the music and fanfare.
Yes we do!
Ed's explanations of his armour was fascinating!
I absolutely adore those dresses. One of my favourite vlogs was Kat on Chateau Diaries modelling one. She was a Princess and so happy. Is it the same designer? Also is she Mrs Moon’s sister, great friends of the Pethericks?❣️
Yes! Same designer and gowns. So perfect for this event, and it was lovely getting to know Sian Vendetta better!
Oh, and I'm not sure about Mrs Moon - perhaps one of the other viewers knows...?
Sian is a neighbour and a good friend of the Moons, I think she looked after the farm the time they all went to the Petherick's for the halloween party. Her daughter Rosalee is Charlie's friend and you can sometimes see them together looking after the horses in earlier videos.
In France, you are not supposed to offer somebody a knife because that could cut a friendship and you’re not supposed to offer handkerchiefs because it could make the person cry. Knives and handkerchief are supposed to bring bad luck as gifts here.
Oh no! Good thing we paid the coin!
We do the coin "thing" too in Antwerp, Belgium.
Looks a lot of fun!
So much fun!
I have heard the reason you are supposed to give a coin with the knife, or sword is that it means the gift will never sever friendship.
Well thank goodness we did the coin - I would hate anything to happen to our friendship!
In Japanese culture if you give a knife, you also give a new, shiny, penny so you don't sever the relationship.
Ok that’s fascinating because very different cultures have a very similar superstition. I wonder who carried it which direction?
Fabulous time - wow ! Thanks for sharing ❤👏👏🌟
I so love seeing the Vendetta gowns in such special settings and Ed's armour is spectacular! Thank you guys 😊
Our pleasure!
Gorgeous dresses, but the sleeves should drive me a bit nuts I think🤪
They’re very good for sitting around eating bonbons.
Italians do not give knives as gifts for fear of being stabbed in the back.
Mamma mia!
I've been watching "hidden away in France" . I was pleasantly surprised to see her on here. How wonderful.
I hope Sian Vendetta pops up more often!
Thank you 🥰
That was such fun to see Ed in armour and what a great fantasy photo shoot. Well done, thank you and love from the Journey to the Chateau ❤❤❤❤❤
You are most welcome!
M&M, WHAT FUN!
I would like to know how much that suit of armor weighs?
Ed said it was 70lbs. The helmet alone was hefty
That looked like so much fun! A lot of work, but also so fun!
absolutely so much fun!
Loved this episode! Ed in his Armour, fascinating education, thx for sharing! ❤
Also when someone gives a lady a new bag there is always a coin in it, that happened to me in Greece.I think it is either for good luck or happy shopping, my mother inlaw did tell me but that was over 40 yrs ago, but i forget.
Oh interesting - I hadn't heard that one either!
Delightful! The young ladies looked like they were having a wonderful time and the knight. in full armor--wow! M&M, you certainly know how to put on a retreat!
funny to see so many playful adults - great costumes 👍
Too many adults forget to play... and then wonder why they cant come up with creative ideas when they need them!
Hiya much enjoyed. Take care Durham Ontario Canada 🇨🇦🐝
So pleased that you gave Kirsten a coin, it was bothering me watching the last video. I was taught that you gave a coin when someone gave you anything sharp to blunt/stop the cutting of the ties of friendship.
The dresses are so pretty, love the mix of fabrics, ie velvet with floaty print sleeves.
Was this designer at Stephanie’s once? Seems like she had some vintage or period pieces worn for a party or something at the chateau. This woman’s work are amazing. 👍
Thank you 🥰
Yes Sian was there a couple of times. That's how we became familiar with her lovely work,
My Scottish grandmother wanted a penny for a knife.didnt tell me why .so good information
😍What a great event!!
Loved the knight in shining armor!! 💖
Us too!
Love Sean and her lovely work I am I subscriber of her channel. It's too bad you did not allow her to answer some of the questions you posed to her and repeatedly spoke over her cutting her off. What a shame she is very talented and has a lot to offer.
Thank you for the feedback.
@@ManorandMaker You are so welcome.
I probably interrupted the questions too due to nerves 😉 I'm sure we'll meet up again, my dresses and the wonderful setting and events are a good match 🥰
Sean has a vlog. It's called hidden away in France.
The costumes were beautiful. Love the suit of armour
I was always told that when given a knife as a gift you gave a coin in return so as not to cut a friendship.
So much fun! Can't wait to see more.
Knight in shining armour got to like him !
Can’t have a chateau without one
I am so taken by how far you all have come. Bravo!
What an amazing time everyone seemed to be having. If I were a few years younger and able to travel I'd love to put on fancy costumes and play at a chateau.
It's fun at any age, as me (50+) and my 80 yo mom can attest!
So much fun to play and create with amazing people.
Truly an amazing suit of amour ❤
It was such a fun day, thank you for inviting me. It's alway special to see my dresses being worn and enjoyed🥰
@@hiddenawayinfrance Absolutely made our guests feel so special and romantic!! Thank you for coming!
Hi Sara & Stephen, Appropriately called a week of Gowns! Knights! Princesses, I'm looking forward to more of the frivolity in the days to come. Mark & Scott
We've got frivolity for you!
That was wonderful! Sooo many lovely ladies- lots of redheads like the portraits of early 1900’s . The suit of armor is spectacular! What a great lesson . (Always wondered if they could get up when knocked down)! … Like being in a heavy tin can on a hot day, I suppose.
Looks like a good time was had by all. Yay!! ❤
Glad you enjoyed it!
😊 looks like such fun! And the dresses are beautiful!
Not only will he get corrected if he calls it the wrong thing if you ask a question and some vlogs I get told off lol 😂 which I find absolutely hilarious 🤣
When we ask a question, we're always happy to have the answer, and learn.
♥️
as about Sword giving, it come from the Merovengians, soon after being christianised, Clovis lords and knights asked to exchange with a coin , so as not to be held responsible before God for the crimes that could be committed with the weapon!, it spreaded around europe when the Franks Chistianised all europe
I love that. Also someone commented that there is a very similar tradition in Japan. I wonder if it developed independently, or if it spread by Marco Polo...
I gave my mother in law a set of knives for a gift and she insisted on giving me a dollar coin as she said "Knives are sharp and can cause arguments" so she needed to "buy them" so no arguments would arise.....?????
It's a curious thing, isnt it? As if it's the coin and knife that would argue, not the people .. lol.
I'm looking forward to you hosting jousting tournaments. I do hope you played appropriate maiden knight games during the day too and had dancing at night.
Wouldnt that be fun?!
What a wonderful way to spend the day👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻❤️
Yes it was!
🥰🇨🇦
🥰
❤
enabler's
Complicit.
Cut the “ friendship” with the coin!
Thanks
Steve, it's time for a new hairstyle
Thanks for watching & subscribing!
Want to hear something not so funny Facebook put me in jail for recommending Vendetta couture, in the comments section of one of those “secret Bridgerton Ball events” which was kinda of a scam anyways I was in a fight with them to prove the event was real…horrible reviews and some investigations.
Facebook didn’t like me dropping her page link a couple of times to different people asking about where to get costumes or period dresses, they said I was spamming them.
I think the event was renting costumes.
Oh wow. Not funny, but fascinating. I guess the only links we can see are the ones that Meta and the spammers send to us 😒😒
Gosh this is not good. Thank you for recommending my business though and sorry you had all the hassle for doing so.
So much fun. Congratulation on your sword, Sir Stephen
Thank you kindly
Fabulously inspiring influencers having great times together - yabba dabba doo!
Oh, this looks like such fun! Amazing!
👋👍❤️
👍
It's a Welsh Tradition A penny a point, My Grandma Richards made the whole family practice the tradition!!!
Mine too
You’re doin good!
I could see having fun making a medieval/period-inspired bag just the right size for a camera or phone. Though I seem to recall that her dresses may have pockets.
I've seen 16th century stays with a cell phone pocket - lol
Gosh that looks like so much fun! I'm curious, what happens to all the photos afterwards, do you participants get to choose a certain number to have?
It’s all content for their social media accounts.
@@ManorandMaker aah amazing!
You should have shot photos with your castle in the background
We did. I didn’t include all the photos in this video.
