      16:27 it squeaks BECAUSE you oiled it ,, (if it has plastic bushings) ,, use graphite lock lube after you remove all oil with brake-kleen or carb cleaner spray.

    A piano hinge on those thin doors would probably help to keep it from bending and cracking

  • @mstberry56
    @mstberry56 10 днів тому +8

    I’d prefer holding it up if the bracket only opens half way. You have to put your face on the floor to see anything. I agree with opening them down.

    Hi, love your videos! Those cupboards under the kid's day bed should open down and use a magnet to hold them in the closed position (like an oven door). It'll be easier for the kids to see what they are putting in and out of their cupboard. Good luck!!

  • @amyblevins9930
    @amyblevins9930 5 днів тому +1

    Suggestion. Instead of having the cabinet hinge on the top I would put the hinge on the bottom. Then the kids would open the cabinet from the top down. You could then install some type of closure for the cabinet to close at the top.

    I have my trash can hanging on my door, looks like you have room to do that too. We use command hooks the one with the wire, cut two holes into the back of the trash can in the back and hang it on the door. There's bit of fiddling to get it in the right place, mostly to close the door, but if you put it to the hinge side not centered it'll work. Mine is only a 4 gallon one, we just empty it more often.

    They are called cabinet door telescopic struts. I used to work in a hardware store.

  • @GrooverFamily83

    I don’t know if others have made this suggestion, but on you flip the doors under the beds so the hinges are on the bottom you don’t need struts or brackets to hold them up. Then the kids can see everything without bend under to see their stuff in that area. Add a magnet or hook to the top to hold the door closed. Love your channel!

    Gotta love Ben buying a hinge that will hold a buses bay door open for a wood door. #teamben

  • @donb270
    @donb270 7 днів тому +1

    If the cabinet door holder does not work out, the struts could be relocated to a different position which would definitely work. It’s about geometry.. the top anchor(on the door) determines the amount of movement (stroke). Moving it down (closer to the hinge, will reduce the amount of stroke.

    Thanks for sharing your DIY adventures with us. Sometimes it takes some trial and error to figure out the best solution. 😊 You could glue and screw a couple of wood strips horizontally to help strengthen the doors without adding much weight, and might reduce future warping.

  • @MartinWilsey
    @MartinWilsey 10 днів тому +4

    Instead of having the door swing up to open, move the hinges to the side so it swings open to the side. I did this. Added a magnetic latch to keep it closed.

  • @dianadunham6691

    As to the suggestions to have the hinges on the bottom of the door, the kids would have to reach over the door because you would not want them resting on the door to reach their bins. Also, at least add a hinge to the center of the door to even out the warp.

    Love the idea for under the sink! I’m looking at setting up an outdoor kitchen on our camper. I love the idea of the wire shelves upside down so items/containers don’t fall off. Might give that a go. Thanks for the food for thought. From a relatively new follower in Australia 🇦🇺

    Get to know the Brinkley people and check out their RVs. They are RV users which is why there are so many niceties built into their rigs.
    Speaking of water, do you ever fill your tank when you are not boondocking? How do you clean your water tank? My pipes were loaded with antifreeze but with no instructions, I didn't know that and drank a fair share of icky water before I realized what the slime was and where it was coming from.
    And, thanks for the RV Digest-It tip. I got some.
    Since you don't live in your RV full-time, do you know of an extended warranty company that will insure a full-time lived-in RV? I've watched most of your videos but don't recall you discussing an extended warranty, rig and "towed" insurance, and the pitfalls we might encounter. That would be a great source of info. Have you?

    Here's a thought. instead of a lift-up lid,, make it a drop-down lid, with hinges on the bottom and a mere latch on the top to hold it shut. MUCH easier to get stuff in and out - you even have a ramp! Cleverness optional, see? Also, do you have a light in there?

    • @GratefulGlamper

    Kids' under-the-bed situation: There are lots of UA-cam videos showing how to calculate the location of, and install, the struts - but more importantly, in addition to holding the cabinet doors up, why didn't you install a pull out shelf under the bed for easier access? Inquiring minds want to know 😀

    Your plywood on your doors are too sand you need three-quarter inch plywood or have not 3/8 yet have at least half inch or smaller a smaller door, but that size of door needs to be a three-quarter inch plywood

    • @Elizabeth-rq1vi
      @Elizabeth-rq1vi 8 днів тому

      With 3/4” plywood it would make it heavy. 1/2” would be good. Birch plywood is good looking and strong. To correct the warp a cross beam or two would stiffen & strengthen it.
