    Really impressed with that small 12 volt water pumping bringing the water up so far from the creek 👍🏻

    This is really nice! You really showed the entire system in a simple and short video. Awesome! If I do this I will change things so the dirty water won’t run into the stream because it is so close and uphill. Also use only Dr. Bronner’s soap.

      saltwaterpurl, I assure you where the shower was set sloped completely away from the creek, and not a drop of dirty water returned to it. Thank you for watching.

    Bought my cabin with 45 plus acres in central Mn in 2014. It have everything accept hot shower. First year up there it took me around 45 minutes to boiled 20 gallons of water. Did a little research and found it listed in Amazon. It was listed around 120 something but got it for$99.00 don't know why but I think it was a returned because when I first opened the thing water came out of it the shower head. Took it to the cabin and hooked it to the well and didn't look back. Had this same shower as yours for three years now. Just used it two weeks ago with 64 people showered everynight. loved it.

    You have to have a 12v water pump that will not burn out and provide at least 45 to 50 lbs, it's the conversion of pascals into something I think more people can comprehend. I've been burning water pumps out. I went with a self contained water tank with an air compressor that charges the pressure. You can't run it right out of the stream but it works way better, and it is actually quieter.

    just what I been debating on getting.. I already have the 12 volt pump been using a 5 gallon bucket for water and, having to heat up water or wait for the sun to do so.. this would be much better warm shower any time I want is better then waiting for water to warm up!

    I'm going to try it without the pump. We have a 50 gallon drum above our outdoor shower. I'm hoping just the gravity pressure will work. Then we don't have to mess with the battery and a pump.

  • @majhmr6257

    I really like your videos. They are very straight forward common sense stuff. Do you see any issues mounting this system on a 1/2" plywood board as long as the heater has breathing space between it and the wood? I'm thinking of using a small filter between the water supply and pump to protect the pump and heater from potential debris in water. Do you think it would be easy to split the water line from the heater with one line for a small sink and the other for the shower so hot water is available for cooking as well? Would you mind sharing the specs on your ATV battery? I'm very interesting in setting this up for family camping. Thank you.

    • @CommonSenseOutdoors
      @CommonSenseOutdoors  8 років тому +1

      I do not see any issue with the plywood and you do not need space between the wood and back of the unit, it doesn't get hot behind it only out the top. The filter is a good idea if drawing straight out of a creek. I was wishing I at least had a bit of pantyhose or something to put over the hose end on this trip. Splitting the hot water would be easy enough with the right fittings, or if the sink was close enough to the shower.. simply put the shower head over to the sink. I couldn't tell you the atv battery specs without looking, just a normal $80 atv battery. I have used several different atv's to power this with no problems. If I camp without any atv I set the shower up where I can park the truck near it and run my wiring in the truck window. Thank you for watching and for your comments. Enjoy your future setup.

  • @wjf213
    @wjf213 8 років тому

    Good video. You should turn that pump 90 degrees so the shaft is horizontal and not vertical. The roller bearings in the pump are not really designed to run that way like tapered roller bearings are, but it isn't a very heavy armature inside unlike bigger motors, and then this REALLY matters. It's just a pet peeve of mine. haha The other thing is, you shouldn't mount it with the pump up, it should be to the side or down below the motor so if you do get a leak, it doesn't go into the motor. Keep up the great work.

    • @CommonSenseOutdoors
      @CommonSenseOutdoors  8 років тому

      Ya, I normally just mount it however it works best for the hose. Horizontal is the normal option when using a shorter hose on the pick up side and a water container. Thank you for your comments and for watching.

    This might be a dumb question, but I dont need the pump/power if I am connecting the unit to a hose spigot, correct?

    • @CommonSenseOutdoors
      @CommonSenseOutdoors  4 роки тому +2

      erica bowen, that is correct. The igniter is battery powered & propane fuels the burner. With pressurized water supply, you wouldn't need the pump or power source.

  • @scottharris5714
    @scottharris5714 4 роки тому

    Not to sound like a spoil sport, but were you at all concerned with bacteria in the river water? Or, as it was heated to be used for the shower, is the bacteria possibly killed? I am just thinking as you shower you possibly ingest some of the creek water - thanks!

    • @CommonSenseOutdoors
      @CommonSenseOutdoors  4 роки тому +1

      Never put much thought into that possibility. Because I'm not in the shower brushing my teeth or drinking the water.
      While the shower gets unbearably hot when turned up, it would not reach temperatures high enough to purify the water.
      I guess if it was a concern from questionable water, all I can say is keep your mouth closed in the shower.. Or boil your water prior and fill a 5 gallon bucket to be used instead of directly into the creek.
      Thank you for your question and for watching.

    Hey buddy thanks for the tips, what kind of pump model and flow got that water up the hill and spraying so well?

  • @johnlord8337
    @johnlord8337 8 років тому +1

    Great idea. If you have a high elevation creek, use hydraulic pressure toward a lower elevation wood pole tripod (with 3" metal O ring, or a double link metal chain with S hooks - chain trammel). Put a large plastic solar heated shower bag above the fire for heated water. An outlet tubing to an even lower elevation shower, and you can have continued wilderness heated shower water.
    If you have some fold up or roll up "powerfilm" solar cell, then a very small water pump can do the water flow and hydraulic pressure. No battery weight.

      @CommonSenseOutdoors  8 років тому +5

      Yes for sure. It uses hardly any propane to run on. Multiple people used this regularly on this trip for 15 days and the amount of gas gone from the small tank wasn't even noticeable. Thank you for watching Adam.

  • @ALWhiteAuthor
    @ALWhiteAuthor 8 років тому +2

    John, instead of the 12v pump have you ever thought about setting up a ram pump? Might have to drop into the creek quite a bit farther upstream but it'll save you having to drain the ATV battery. Stators on bike motors aren't known for their high charging power. You'll eventually end up killing the ATV battery and stranding yourself. Just a thought.

    • @CommonSenseOutdoors
      @CommonSenseOutdoors  8 років тому +4

      Never gave it thought. The use of this shower doesn't always have the option for being set next to water for one. I have used the shower many, many times during 3 week trips and have never had an issue with an atv battery, and I don't even leave the atv running while I use it for the pump. Thank you for watching.

      A deep cycle marine battery will last a long time depending upon how many hours of shower time you use. It will probably run that pump continuously 10+ hours depending upon battery capacity. Alternately, a solar panel set up could run the pump with a smaller capacity deep cycle battery.

      toughsquare, If I recall correctly, I had a small tank on it this trip. I normally just use a 5 gal tank. But I can say I have spent many 3 week long trips, with the shower being used one-four times a day.. And don't recall ever using more than a gallon of propane.
