Best ever designed Ute Australia has ever seen, someone was using their brain cells to the maximum, well done bro
can't understand the thumbs down on any modified car no matter what the brand must be jealously nice.car.good work mate keepm coming
The workshop is immaculate. And so are the cars. Very impressed.
yeh that is a bit of the logic, it also let descent size turbos in and kept the under bonnet reasonably clean, this also takes the extreme heat away for the engine bay aswell. The main reason was to test this set up to see how this combo would operate, very happy so far, drives great.
The Ute is a australian term for a utility vehicle, one that can carry both passangers and a pay load, something that was designed in the 30's for the Australian market.
Since the 70's when they started to but v8's in these they have also sometimes been refered to as the Ozzy sports car, a two seater, V8, 4 on the floor, rear wheel drive with great power to weight, now we have the likes of the Maloo, what else are they.
I was looking at a setup that done this but the only reason they where behind the block was space restrictions. Not a lot of room up in front or to the side of the engine in a lot of engine bays.
At the Beginning Stage of a resto for My HZ Ute .. So much to Do To make it look half as Smooth as this one . Thanks for showing off your Very Nice Ute ..
1st time I've seen turbos placed underneath a car. Very nice ride.
remember this beast in street machine mag i see youve upgraded it very nicely
Adding to Marks explanation, from wikipedia we find: Ford Australia was the first company to produce a coupe utility. This was the result of a 1932 letter from the wife of a farmer in Victoria, Australia asking for “a vehicle to go to church in on a Sunday and which can carry our pigs to market on Mondays”.
you are a wizard. beautiful work.
nice clean workshop
was not expecting to hear a woman's voice ( dont mean to sound sexist). its good to see a female with a passion for car's.
@89shelleby you can see dust under there ( it doesn't do a lot but it does drive on West Australian country roads)
going to do the same thing with my segway
Far out thats a serious setup there. Is that four fuel pumps i see?!
The quality of your work is just amazing, everything is done to such high standards and looks so clean.
This setup wouldve cost an arm and a leg though.
@TheLuke2reeve, hp at the wheels is roughly equal to kw at the flywheel.
Actually it depends on the type of transmission. For example at Tremec T56 Gen3 commodore will generally lose around 17%, the 4 speed auto more.
ignoring the fact that this is only a low boost shake down dyno pass, what do you think this set up would being making at the crank?
@longshot1490 Its an HZ Sandman "Ute" (short for utility) stateside you guys know them as a pick up! Basically an Australian El Camino....Classic Australian car! This thing is a serious weapon.....
@samkactus I dont know how ya worked that out but, hey your the one that clearly knows more
why are the turbos so far back ? is it for less back pressure in the turbos or something ?
im so tempted to rear mount twins in my HG monaro, instead of a single up front. Done right its so clean. gotta love boosted LS motors. 1000rwhp is now average. imagine that 20 years ago
500rwhp is average 1000rwhp is expensive!!!
Beautiful car guys, love it!, what colour is it?, it looks like Caribbean torquise?
@hsv454kh all custom made here at MWS and no, did not cut the tunnel
Are rear mounted Turbo's less efficient than front mounted turbo's???
excellent build there guys i like it alot. i think in the u.s. market thats a ford ranchero? kinda like the chevy el camino back in the days.
what is the advantage of having the turbos at the rear away from the engine? forgive my ignorance i have just never seen this before and i would have thought it would detract from the efficiency of the turbos. i know it is a 427 and not going to be laggy as such, i just would have thought you would get more power with a more compact setup. Nice ute though!
What oil scavenge pump are you guys using?
hey man love the ute but I got a few Questions about what you done,
what type off gearbox crossmember did you used for the ute?
Did you have to cut the gearbox tunnel to fit the gearbox and if so how much metal did you cut out?
I'm asking cause i'm going to be putting a LS1 with a T56 into my HQ 1 tonner i'm rebuilding!
luv how you mounted the coil packs (among other things :P )
LOL at the stall at 3:45 ......beaut ute though would only dream of owning something like that one day.
hey bro love the rims what kind are they and do you have site that could link me to
@smashrine, well there is no real way to convert but the 15% rule has been ruled out if you google it you might find it but from what i have seen over the years reading mags and online the closest i found was around the 25% or lower mark. So why would Marks Workshop lie about this?????
No..it's a Holden, basically the Australian version of the Americas Chev..the "bread and butter" staple of the Aussie car market..and KW and HP are just two different ways of expressing the power out of an engine or machine..just remember that 1KW = 1.341HP.
Wow never seen a turbo setup like that. Wouldn't this cause alot of lag?
What a work of art simply beautiful :-)
What Turbos wee used in the build?
@possiblemike1 LENSO GT-05 rims, i don't know if you can get them any more.
I assume the trade off for having the turbo's a long way from the motor would be increased lag? When it comes to 1000kw though lag is expected haha
What are those can looking things back under the trunk? or Boot if your from UK lol...
Such a shame that none of these dyno queens ever get driven at shows like Powercruise and Motorvation , would be good to hear them driven hard.
I feel like everybody in Australia drives a twin turbo v8 something, like they come like that from the factory lol
bullhead360 totally me 2
its actually approx 25% drivetrain loss 758kw at the wheels is 1000kw in the engine.
and the kw in an engine is approx the hp at the wheels.
you would know this if you know cars...........
ok..quick figures...1kw = 1.341hp..so,1,000kw = 1,341 hp...(at flywheel)...take in 15% loss through drivetrain, (which is fairly accurate) rear wheel output should be approximately 1,139.85hp or 850kw.
do you recon you could make an in car video with this?
I really like the stealthy Ninja intake. If you didn't know what a blow off was you'd just think its NA.
Cheers
clean, proffesional and skilled-missile
No...you can use either Kw or HP to measure power...just remember that 1 Kw =1.341 HP when your'e trying to work out the figures.
seriouslylove this car! can we see more of it?
11.6 psi it made over 1000hp at the wheels. 1000kw+ AT THE WHEELS on 1.1 bar
You can correct the dyno figures to anything that you like. So, basically that means that any claims of 1000hp or 1000kW is bullshit, irrespective of what the dyno screen shows.
impressive, nice build!!
kw is like wheel power ?
that ute gave me wood! those rims top it off. tough as nails!
If its that loud with the system hooked up for dyno, how loud is it full boost on road
Lol, full boost on the road.
@TheLuke2reeve It's 1341HP to be exact SO 1000KW would be right.
@trbossdoggy You do realise that this is an Australian vid, and an Australian car. Just because it has a Chevy Bowtie on its rocker cover does not make it a Chevy. It's 1979 HZ Holden Sandman ute. The nearest American cousin it would have is the Chevyu El Camino, but there's a huge diffference between them
Great lookin car, i'm doing a hz ute gts look alike restoration thanks for posting
Thanks for the props, all the best.
+Marks .Workshop WHY DID THE GET RID OF THE OLD SMALL BLOCK CHEVY AND MAKE THE LS?

hm thanks for informations
👍
ha .a modern day mad max beasty
Do us all a favour and take those mud flaps off.
4 people are Ford fans.
really 1000kw u must be joking
"1000 HP" not 1000 kw lol
1000kw ey??
Runs over 1650rwhp, so yeh 1000kw cause we haven't got any more vids at this stage. Maybe in the new year if we get a chance to do something with our own stuff.
+Marks .Workshop
wouldnt that be over 1200kw? 1.34hp per kw...?
its like watching a porno!
