I think we can all agree that this “music-centric” era of Zeddy is peak youtube
FACTS. THIS IS PEAK UA-cam AND I’M LIVING IT.
This is actually really good content tbh. Like I'm actually being turned onto shit
Yes
peak.

The frog…it’s actually there.
Nathan never misses.
I had to check for myself...
@Edktd Mlnn it only shows up for a frame or two, I went back to find it and still missed it the first time
Ikr
I subscribed off that.
lmaooooooooooooooooooooooo
I'm still bitter about Taylor Swift not making 'folklore' a visual album. The album has a potential to be a movie istg.
I think it's more in the imagery and lyrical content that makes up the visual aspect..
But I wouldn't mind tho👍
so true tbh it could have been a whole deep daydream world
my first listen to Folklore is pretty much boring idk why. the second listen, i was levitating.
I’ve only heard one song. Maybe I will try to listen to the entire album
@@char6081 you'll love it
The Weeknd really nailed the storytelling in the music videos of his last album... Can't wait to see what he's doing next!

Nathan needs a Patreon, surely he can’t be making money from these vids with UMG existing
Possibly the only YTer I'd happily support there
@@keeganlubbe2470 100%
:/ i was thinking about this ! i literally feel so bad bc he sacrifices so much to give us the BEST videos on this platform
Yess I think there'll genuinely be a lot of people who'll support him there! I'm sure he gets constant claims for all the songs playing in the bg
Music videos as we know them today would not exist if it was not for Michael Jackson. Before that music videos were mostly just recorded performances or a person lip-syncing in front of bad graphics. He literally invented the term 'short films' and would never call his videos 'music videos'. A visionary combining amazing sounds, visually stimulating choreography and story telling.
That man Michael Jackson was a different beast
You took the words outta my mouth
Fun fact: Paul McCartney told Michael to be more creative with music videos
PERIOD.
@@Visualmooney fun fact: this is not true. btw, stop giving white people credit for black peoples achievements.
Michael's music videos are absolute masterpieces. The amount of work he put into them was incredible.
yes!
Fr. Billie jean has to be the best music videos of all time
@@Boxscape_VR their the best their ever was and is
The change michael had on the whole music industry is crazy!!
Right?
Hey Ya by Outkast. everyone’s losing their mind and fainting in the audience and there’s literally a casket on the stage. it’s a perfect encapsulation of the song
Also, a fantastic homage to The Beatles appearing on Ed Sullivan.
Hello can you explain further how you understood the video it is so interesting
@@noemiequenum8767 The lyrics act as a stark contrast to the mood of the song and the video. The lyrics break down the underlying issues of blind love/ worship (which leads to further issues such as failed marriages). The song/ video combination actually compliments this theme as it points out toxic celebrity culture, as regular consumers blindly worship superstars not knowing that their lives are falling apart behind closed doors (hence the casket). In the song Andre even says, "Y'all don't wanna hear me, you just wanna dance". There's a lot more to unpack from the song/ video though. That's only one conclusion you can draw from it.
@@Kennieson thank you it's funny I've never noticed the casket in the video all I notice is the group playing and the groupies. I guess I always dance to it and not pay attention. So Andre 3000 was absolutely right!
Why is no one talking about the comedic genius of him swapping out for his sister?😂
Bruh I was like who was that😂😂😂 she's soooo pretty 😩😩😍😍
that was his sister??? bruh I thought that was a filter and I was like "damn female Nathan bad tho"
Yeah, I think it's easy to tell it was his sis lol She looks like him, but in a good way.
Where in the video? I watched the whole thing and missed it
@@101feven101 10:05 :)
Micheal Jackson’s songs are great but with the video they’re legendary
The songs are legendary too
Songs are literally legendary too??
When Beyoncé came out with self titled in 2013 with no promotion and every single song had a video that totally changed my perspective on music videos. Before I grew up watching music videos and watching mtv but never over analyzing them. When she dropped self titled every video told a story I was so surprised she put out something that explicit. I always been a huge bey fan and she’s always had amazing videos but as a mainstream pop star I didn’t expect her to go that deep into the visuals and explicit emotions it invoked she changed the game for female pop stars in the modern day.
ngl i wouldn't mind you hosting a podcast just talking about music cause you never miss
This is unbelievably true
agreeed, his takes on music are always so great
Yes pls

Nah, the reason these are so good is because they're in video form. Podcasts are usually spontaneous.
Sometimes I wonder what would music videos would have looked like if Michael Jackson didn't release Beat it, Billie Jean, and Thriller. 🤔
Think this generation doesn't acknowledge MJ's contribution to videography enough. When we say, Michael Jackson!! Everyone would scream legend, King of pop but can barely tell what he did for music and videos. His videos walked so, today's top MVs could run.
YES. MJ isn't appreciated enough these days!
@@moonwalker.v I mean he still leads the 80s legends panel or the artists that came before him in terms of digital numbers and people still talk about him but they don't discuss what exactly he did for the culture.
@@zyoteesunuwar4825 yesss that is totally what i meant! Like, he was so important and impactful to how the world is today.
I can't stop replaying the sza transition in the beginning, im obssessed.

Hello big will
wow fancy seeing u here lol
Wys will lovey to see you you better not bring the lil white boys to this comment section
reminds me of the whole HYYH era. the short films, the notes, the comic, you have to consume all content in order to even begin to understand that word and even then you still don't fully understand it.. I remember seeing the original version of the i need u mv for the first time and thinking I'd get a cute little kpop music video
(Especially considering the vibe of the song and the English parts of the lyrics) and then seeing taehyung stab his father and all that blood 😭 and then I watched the short films for WINGS and I was just blown away. That whole era was insane but so amazing
Best Era ever. And the best part about it, fans are still divided about who's actually dead ( not an actual argument, but it's hard to find the common ground)
hyyh will always be my favourite era ever
Literally, the music business was in a slump and MTV was on the verge of folding when MJ released thriller. It changed the entire music game and saved the business. They are still so relevant. I look at earth song and it’s still so visually stunning
One of the most annoying things is when a fire song has no music video.
Worse when it has a lame video
@@outcastriley that's a heartbreaking situation

"But what makes a truly iconic music video?"
"MICHAEL JACKSON"
Most truthful editing was never made.
Yeeeeesss!!
Welp, Crazy Frog actually IS in the first 2 seconds. He don’t miss
lets goo
No 3 secs
Yup HE DONT MISS lmao
my favorites in terms of narrative are the BTS’ entire Love Yourself narrative since I Need U and even before that, most of their music videos since then have followed that story of friendship through hardship and life and love all together with beautiful art. You’d get even more clues and pieces of the story in their Highlight Reels which are phenomenal, more clues in the Japanese version of the music videos, more clues in their intro videos before their concert, they made a Webtoon about the story and I’ve heard there will be a video game. Paired with some really good music and impactful lyrics 👩🍳💋✨
Would've loved to have seen some clips from the run mv included in this, the vibes, cinematography & music are all top tier
You should’ve talked about Kanye’s first video. When he spent most of his money (40k) on a music video for through the wire and it became so popular that his labels later just green-lit every music video idea he had before they even heard it
Pet peeve: when a music video has no storyline but is just full of beauty shots
Ungodly hour… omg. 😭
@@TheSilverGarnet now now not too much on my sisters!!!
each time an ariana vid drops.... either its mismatched or just pretty -- nothing in between

MJ’s music videos weren’t music videos. They were literal movies
That’s why Michael called them “short films”
Wasn’t Thriller’s video over 13 minutes long?
I feel like lady gaga really brought people to watch music videos more back in 2010 bc here was so wild and started an era of so many artists going all out in their videos
You should definitely do a “The Power of The Unreleased albums/songs”
the way your videos come together is genuinely elite, you're actually too good i swear
SEEMS LIKE ITS FTW'O CLOCK
What is this?
A crossover episode?
I liked this video because of the intro alone.
ITS COMING HOMEEEE
Niran focus on Southgate my brother
“A bad music video is when they take the lyrics and the visuals are literally words for words what the lyrics are saying”
Riptide by Vance Joy: 😢
you know every rule has the exception, i love this one
Yeah, riptide is definitely a exception. That mv gives me chills
Same thoughts but it's the exception. Loved the song more because of the video
6 foot 7 foot
Keep it 100 by Joyner Lucas is another exception
Michael Jackson by far iconic. Dude set the standard.
Love that there was a shot from Cellophane that music video for the song is an absolute masterpiece shout out to FKA Twigs. She always brings it
Did somebody say... another classic!?
I love how he literally gives "It's Everyday Bro" zero respect to the point he didn't even bother add it to the desc
As he should lol
LESSGOOO HE REUPLOADED IT
Thank God.....thank God....
kpop has really kept music videos alive more than any genre in the past few years i wish music videos were as prevalent in rap in the past few years
The way he talks about music makes me want to appreciate it so much
Honestly
After Hours absolutely killed this to me. Basically every time I listen to Blinding Lights now while I’m driving I feel like I gotta drive like he did in the video 😂
Facts
The music video of "Nightmare" by Avenged Sevenfold is amazing that really elevates the song. The badass look of M Shadows wearing aviator glasses with a backwards hat and a tank top against a pitch black background is something that absolutely makes you feel awesome. It makes you feel empowered.
This man is really risking copyright claims for our sake.
Omg when zendaya came up I screamed, our boy is still loyal
Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson is an entire film on its own
That's the best video ever made for me
Moonwalker, right?
Bad also has a 18min short film
To this day, I still can't figure out how he leaned forward without falling down.
I'm so sad animated music videos aren't as popular as they should be in the west, animation is perfect with music cause you literally have no limitations, you hear The Beatles on Yellow Submarine, or all the music videos of Gorillaz, or Daft Punk in Interstella 5555.
Animation can really make insane music videos, again Japan is years ahead of us in animation.

Im doing a rewatch of all your videos and man you need to know that the clearly big amount of work you did in this one is so appreciated. This is probably your best one.
Awesome video, you sound so passionate and all the variety in the clips you used actually got me hype to revisit some of my old faves I forgot about! Also your editing skills are insane. Hella talented
Michael Jackson is The King of Pop for a lot o reasons! God, hes short films are the reason why there's an industry for the music video format in the first place.
there were music videos before him lol, queen and the beatles for example. MJ just made them better and elevated them to another level I'll give him that.
@@NotJoegoldberg I did not said he was the first.
@@NotJoegoldberg No, back then there was no music videos with a story narrative. MJ was the first musician to do it and made it to what we have now. Before that, musicians were doing music videos with no purpose of a story telling either there mv’s were performing on stage or just doing something “artsy” Get your facts right.
@@primeracalledelasoledad8439 No you were right the first time, he was literally the man that invented short films with story telling in his music videos and popularise it to what we have today.

Scream is so fkn good
My favorite video along with Black or White and In the Closet. Dangerous was really the OG visual album tho.
@@blameitoncapitalism Bad was the og tho. Dangerous continued what Bad started.
Gorillaz' music videos are literally the story arcs of the cartoon characters evolving and aging over time. The vibes are on point too, when the lyrics are comedic, funny stuff happens like in "strobelite". When the vibe is "tired" the characters are having a hangover like in "Stylo". When the vibe and style are psychedelic, they're having a drug trip or nightmare like in "Saturn Barz". The fact that they play their music video's during live concerts make it all the more mesmerizing.
Stylo is not a tired song lol
I think ASAP Rocky has the most underrated music videos, the colours used, the camera angles, the clothes everyone has on, even some of the storytelling is absolutely out of this world
There's something wholesome about youtubers like Nathan talk about music so passionately :)
I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO FELT THIS - literally sometimes i’ll dislike a song or be indifferent to it for MONTHS but then i see the video and it helps me actually see the experience, so then i can listen to the song without the video and like it bc i just see the visuals in my head and it takes me to a whole different place and thus elevating the song
Yoooo this is straight facts. Example, I didnt mind too much This is America and Sicko Mode but once I saw the videos, I couldnt get enough of them and had them on repeat for days.
Some bad songs can have good music videos, but, if the song is still bad, a good music video can’t redeem that, since you won’t be watching the video nearly as often.
Tyler’s visuals are especially amazing to me because you KNOW he’s behind everything like it’s so obviously him. There’s very few people who you can say that about.
that’s true, A$AP Rocky even said it when Tyler won that Innovator award; they both create and direct their own visuals and you can tell 🔥
@@alejandrafaura9273 Rocky's L$D MV is fucking insane. Dexter Navy got crazy directing with rocky
Rocky’s A$AP Forever MV is the best I’ve ever watched
Your words about music videos and how you enjoyed the visuals really validated my efforts in a self-created music video I'm releasing soon. It took me a bunch of time to finish it, a couple hundred hours and a couple of weeks. By the end of my project, I wondered if it was worth it. A week later I'm watching your video now, and I'm really just feeling more confident about myself and my visual+audio art. This was a fun video to watch!

I'm legit studying music videos in an academic setting, and you pretty much summed up what the leading scholars have concluded over years of research (with minor exceptions and exclusions but not a lot). I'm really impressed if you came up with all this independently!
One of the most memorable music videos for me was Do I Wanna Know by the Artic Monkeys. Shit was just black and white lines with a splash of colour here and there and I thought I was in another dimension
The Knife - We Share Our Mothers Health ua-cam.com/video/gtdE7yMDdiA/v-deo.html is another vid in this style

Forever thankful to UA-cam for having that one recommended vid, your channel is pure gold.
This is why MJ is the ultimate G.O.A.T.
Absolutly!
When you started playing 80s I knew I was gonna get fucking Rick rolled
Once he mentioned “memes”, I saw it coming.
Nathan, you've become one of my favourite creators on the internet. Your narrative, editing, everything is so top-tier. This video was such a great successor to the rollouts, sequencing music series. You did miss Janelle Monáe's oustanding music videos from Dirty Computer though, if you haven't seen it, you totally should - it's a masterpiece.
i absolutely love how when your showing a music video the sound is clear, but when the frame switches back to you, its muffled. So cool !!
Michael Jackson's real dream was to become a Movie Director or Producer but as a poor working kid he never got that Freedom to follow his dream career, that's the reason why he incorporate movie theme into his music and helps to revolutionized and popularized MV .It ended up opening the door for all Black Artists in mainstream. What a beautiful example of Butterfly Effect #RIP 👑

Kpop music videos ara EXACTLY what you describe. they complement the song... besides the coreos, the visuals and concepts and the references thay have.
it’s a classic. he literally said the word ‘visuals’ and it’s a classic.
I appreciated the nod to kpop MVs and their choreo. Kpop didn't invent creative music videos or creating choreography with their songs, but they go hard. Every single group, every single comeback.
I think MVs are also extra important since international fans don't understand ish unless there's a visual to help or translations XD
@@mastermangouste5425 Oh for sure lol. When most MVs don't have translated subtitles, you kind of just have to go off the visuals
