- Another day in Iceland... After having a major run in with the rudest National Park Ranger we've ever met (she was so nasty she made Aimee cry! 😂) we were lucky to avoid a $5000 fine by the skin of our teeth - We had THE BEST day on our glacier hike with Troll Expeditions and ended up in the cutest red icelandic cabins surrounded by mountains and fjords!

For people that are wondering about the park ranger run in -
We had pulled over onto the side of that road before our tour with Troll Expeditions.
We saw there were tracks on the 'road' before we turned off and assumed it would be ok. We stuck to the gravel and did not go across any 'grassland or nature' like the ranger has suggested. Of course we would never have done that! We're all about looking after the planet, but the way she came at us was insane!
She made out we had destroyed Iceland and threatened us with all kinds of fines and calling the police. She was extremely rude and intimidating - probably why Aimee cried. We phoned Mr.B to see if he could get through to her because she wasn't listenin to us (and we had no idea STILL what we had done) he said she was a very angry lady and wasn't being helpful at all. We had pulled over onto what looked like a car park.
If we did something wrong - we're all for holding our hands up - we would NEVER have pulled over if we'd have known it was illegal but the way that lady treated us was very unprofessional and unnecessary.
At the end of the day.. WE LOVE YOU ICELAND, WE DO, OOOHHH ICELAND WE (still) LOVE YOU.

Looked like an off-the-road car park area to Katie and I too. You always get "one" wherever you go.
There is no law of trespass in iceland.
But do bare in mind that tourists in summer out number the locals nearly 15 to 1...
Yes their economy is fkd without tourism but just the same it does get them pissed off.
Glaciers are starting to disappear. Sad how the destruction of this gorgeous planet will be by the humans who truly don’t give a sh*T!!!
Iceland looks amazing! I would have thought you could have driven where you did. Glad you didn’t get the fine though. That would have put a damper on the trip

I will not ever pull over at all in Iceland. Just round and round and round we’ll go…. Thats not even high season and she was that cranky!? Yikes! 😮
There is a reason why doing number 2 should be avoided and it has to do with ground water.
I feel so bad due to how you were treated by the park ranger. Illegal off-roading is such a big problem here that many people seem to have completely lost their patience.
The safest thing is to just assume that it's never okay to leave the road, I guess.
I sincerely hope this didn't put a huge dent in your trip. At least it looks like you had a great time.

I love Iceland as a country, but the last couple times I've been there I've found Icelanders to be extremely rude. And to the Icelandic people I've triggered, I understand tourists are annoying, but if such a large portion of your economy relies on those tourists, maybe you could try to have a little more patience. OP, just be glad you didn't call their little horses "ponies". 🤣
In Iceland it's illegal to off-road even if it looks like a place you can park. There are signs in places you can park off road on. I can't blame you guys for what happened becausen you didn't know better but the reason we are so strict on this law is because a lot of land was destroyed by off-roaders both public and private land. Also Iceland is covered in moss and if you ruin it it can take over a hundred years to re grow and we already have very little plant life also a lot of animals here rely on the Moss ESPECIALLY birds.

We saw the same rangers giving it to some motorcycles that had gone off road at Jökulsárlón a couple of weeks ago. A difficult job for the rangers to patrol people doing the wrong thing.
It is not always clear like in your instance where is ok to pull over or not.
Yeh you’re not wrong mate! It didn’t seem like it wasn’t somewhere we could pull over but the way went at us for it was crazy! Obv just doing her job but she needs a holiday we reckon! 😂
Iceland needs to make it clear to tourists as to what off roading is. I can see why you thought it was a place to park.

How the hell are you supposed to know that wasn't a "pull in"🤔.. They should put no stopping or no parking signs there if it's not allowed to stop🙄.. It looks like any of the other roadside stopping/parking areas on your videos!

It seems iceland are cracking down on where campervans can stay and are pointing them all towards campsites. But we think as long as you're not turning off onto anyone's land or land in general you'll be ok (eg staying in picnic areas with concrete floor)

We are trying to figure out our summer road trip plans and I am thinking we might drive from Seattle to Alaska. Not quite Iceland, but glaciers, climate change and great scenery!! The glacier hike looks amazing and not too difficult? I am thinking of my creeky bones, clumsiness, and a child who is just like her mum. The glaciers where I live are like climbing up a mountain. Well, maybe that's because they're mountain glaciers? Not safe for children. Yeah... Anyway, I would love for my daughter to see the glaciers before they are gone. Would you recommend this hike? Sorry, I ask a lot of questions. Since I have nothing better to do, thanks Covid-19, than act like a stocker and watch all your videos and follow on social media, I just sit around and take in your adventures. I am so looking forward to getting out of my house and going on this adventure with my family in September. Iceland better watch out! There is a weird family from Washington State coming for a hot spring soak, a hike on a semi-flat glacier, a long road while we look at basalt rocks, and listen to my daughter singing at the top of her lungs. We promise to hold it in until we get home and not leave our poo on the side of the road. I mean, who does that? Sick people! Respect your planet and your butt. The hike is awesome - and i believe for all ages. They give you crampons and they don't take you on the major slippy bits - it's like soft snow not ice so you hold on pretty well. I only fell over because i didn't step high enough on one part haha not because I slipped, so i think you guys should definitely give it a shot! The guide was awesome so we'd highly recommend Troll expeditions!
Please think about vlogging your time and your family in Iceland - we'd defo watch!! haha

I looked at their list and just said yes to all of it. I know somewhere I will trip and graciously fall as this is a talent of mine. Hopefully, I will get that on video for a good laugh.
