I just realised why: the girl on the thumbnail works in those colours because she is sooo pale that the slightest shadow up top contrasts heavily, her brows and eyes pop out easily against her pale skin so the dark red isn't overtaking or drawing as much attention but is balancing instead whereas on you the upper half is so much paler and softer it gets drowned out.

everything I was going great even though I don't have the exact same palette as you until I attempted to do my inner corners with liquid black eyeliner and then the bottom with the liquid brown eyeliner. I don't know why but I struggle so much because I don't understand how to do it without touching my lashes. my natural eyelashes get in the way because they are kind of long and very curly. so it completely ruined the whole look I was devastated. luckily I wasn't going anywhere I was just doing it for practice. but i was so sad... definitely think I might do that part with a pencil instead.
