Personally, I get the sense that the new Yubel cards, in particular Spirit of Yubel and Yubel LDF effectively represent a 'Post-Season 3/Post-Series' Yubel AFTER they have fused with Jaden. And in particular, the forms they now take as part of Jaden's deck. In both cards, Yubel is referencing Jaden's two most iconic/favorite monsters, Neos and Flame Wingman. And mechanically speaking, Loving Defender Forever is a perfect fit for Jaden's deck, or at least fits FAR better than the OG Yubel trio. All Jaden needs is base Yubel in his deck to make LDF with a bunch of his Elemental Heroes or Neospacians, or alternatively Neos Kluger.
Are there people who dont get that reference?? Its spirit of neos and flame wingman getting referenced by yubel of course this is after the fusion of them
There seems to be a bit more to loving defender forever's design than Yubel jealousy. I once saw a comment pointing out that flame wingman probably became Jaden's favourite because it subconsciously reminded him of Yubel; flame wingman is the fusion of a man and woman, split down the middle in colour like Yubel's heterochromic eyes, has a "misshapen" arm like Yubel's when their duel disk grows out of it and both have an effect that inflicts damage to the opponent equal to the opponent's monster attack. That Yubel takes a form that reminds us of flame wingman is a cool way to make things come full circle.
Interesting idea thinking the physicality of Yubel was based on Ardhanarishvara. However, I think there is a better argument that Yubel is based on a Rebis, an alchemical being possessing male and female qualities to embody perfection. The reason I say this is that Alchemy is referenced in the series with Amnael passing the title of Master Alchemist to Judai, since he fuses together “the elements” (E-HEROs) to create something new with little to no effort. There’s also reference to the Philosopher’s Stone, AND that Judai is CONSTANTLY compared to the Sun, which is not only a Superman shout-out, but the Sun being a huge symbol in Alchemy. That’s the impression I got from the Japanese Dub anyway.
I'm kinda disappointed that yami yugi and yubel never had any interaction with each other when jaden and yugi was dueling .(unless they did and I don't remember)
Props to Konami for blasting out so many retrains and support for old anime archetypes people have been waiting for decades. The anime has a special place in people's heart and replaying these moments is just pure satisfaction. Yu-Gi-Oh! GX is my third favorite yugioh series and I love the character Yubel. Seeing her with all this support makes me feel estactic similar to how I reacted when the Egyptian Gods finally received their support in the last 3 years.

That Yubel ending always got me when i was a kid. I wished S4, wasn't that rushed with basically a kinda awkward conclusion. What a roller coaster Gx was
I always thought Yubel's whole thing was being turned into a Hermaphrodite, as in the Alchemy concept of one since that is also both female and male at the same time. I always thought of this because each season and their summon mechanic was based on some concept, Synchro is tuning sound waves, XYZ is like 2 stars colliding and something coming out of the explosion, link is building a Circuit, Pendulum explains itself and Fusion to me was always alchemy, mixing stuff to make another thing. I also believed this because Super Poly was made how a lot of media portray the creation of the Philosopher Stone, by merging(Fusing) a lot of souls into the ultimate alchemic creation, which in this case would be a virtually unstopable card capable of fusing basically anything into a new being. At least this is the way I always thought about it.
Yubel will always be such a sick spiritual guardian to me. She (or they) and Jaden in season 4 needed more moments and the heterochronic eyes are flawless. Also while it doesn't really count, Neos Kluger is one of my favourite Neo Fusions.
@@bluengold3443 do you have a current Yubel deck that you like to run? I think I found the most success using a branded Yubel Deck since you can use the sanctifier Dragon to special summon Albaz to your field and Yubel to your opponents and as long as they don't have impermanence or Ash you can fuse away your opponent's entire field. I don't know why, but she really is my favorite monster in the game.
Funnily enough, another GX archetype actually can stop Super Poly. When paired with an ATK position Hamon, Cerulean Skyfire is able to negate Super Poly. Since Skyfire’s effect doesn’t actually activate (it’s “used”) and it negates effects not activations, it’s able to circumvent all those “cards cannot be activated in response to this card’s activation” clauses. I found this out by accident when playing Master Duel but it’s a really handy ruling to know when playing Sacred Beasts
6:45 that is an interesting interpretation of yubel, however, i think the more accurate reference could be that they symbolized the androgyn, a concept in alechemy to be reffered to as the perfect being. it makes more sense thematically, since alchemy has been a part of gx's lore since season 1. (not to mention how it also reflects flame wingman, how he is created by fusing a male and female, an precedure to create an adrogyn, possibly hinting what yubels ritual was like)
And a few days ago, I mentioned in an older video focusing on Yubel that new support was recently added. I do hope that the Konami makes an entire structure deck for Yubel and its archetype.
I just love how, even in 4Kids' attempt to sanitize/simplify the portrayal of Yubel's gender and make their true form more overtly female with the censorship/changes you mentioned, even THEN, they still end up under the transgender umbrella, considering that even in the Dub, human Yubel was living/presenting as a male before the procedure. So, no matter what version you watch, Yubel is a trans icon and I love that for them 😌
My buddy has been playing Yubel since it first came to the game. In fact, he still has his original Yubel cards from the set they were introduced. Needless to say, he popped off when it was announced that Yubel would be getting new support.
Wished Jaden Yuki and Yubel had more moments in Season 4, or tackled on the entire storyline of GX together since the beginning until the end while going through many challenges.
I think Eternal Favorite is also supposed to be a GX counterpart to Eternal Soul, given that they both can special summon the most loyal monsters of Yugi and Judai. It also references how before Flame Wingman and Neos came around, Judai's favorite card has always been Yubel. Given how Spirit of Yubel and Yubel - The Loving Defender Forever show Yubel copying the poses of Neos and Flame Wingman, I wonder if we will get a Yubel-themed Winged Kuriboh someday.
I wonder how would Winged-Kuribo and leveled WK themed Yubel work? Like a weaker version of Yubel that can again be used to bring out the real Yubel and retrained version of Terror Incarnation/Ultimate Nightmare?
Yubel in duel links is actually pretty decent since with the the skill eternal bond you can almost immediately summon Yubel without tribute and then almost immediately summon Yubel the ultimate nightmare and when any Yubel card is summoned you can also summon a elemental hero neos from you deck to your hand and you can summon him without tribute and if you do you can get a miracle contact or a super polymerization from your deck to your hand
Another cool detail about Phantom of Yubel, the weakened state of Yubel, is fittingly a level 9 monster. Which then brings out its prime form, of a level 10 monster. Nice attention to detail right there.
While the japanese Yubel is obviously a reference to Hinduism, International Yubel kinda fits Yubel as a character as it's instead a look into a very real unhealthy and toxic view of love that some people have; That being that you NEED to change to earn love. Yubel's transformation in general sorta has to do with this concept, but Yubel in the international release being completely female after their transformation means that they aren't anything like how they used to be physically, while the japanese was 50% male, so therefore there is still some of what Yubel was physically to a sort of extent. Plus Yubel's stronger transformations help exemplify this fact, as in the anime this was them trying to come closer to their goal due to their love for Jaden, which is shown by them becoming more monstrous as they are trying to achieve their sense of love to Jaden, which brings the unhealthy idea of self-change with it. Them getting stronger, their attempt at Jaden's love, is shown by them becoming more and more monstrous. And maybe in a way the Spirit of Yubel card and other stronger Yubel cards that looks like regular (as in the one that spectates Jaden) Yubel could be meaning that now that they are with Jaden forever now, they are fine with being themselves instead of needing change for Jaden's love and to show their love for him, and so, they can be strong to protect Jaden and show him love without having to change themselves in unhealthy ways. (Though she still jelly about Flame-Wingman for sure, but in a healthy and not murder-y way.) If that's what it's meant to be, then Yubel is one of the most dark and real cards and characters in all of Yu-Gi-Oh. God that's good symbolism.
I love yubel! She's my favorite Yu-Gi-Oh villain and I liked her so much that Yubel was the very first Yu-Gi-Oh card that I had ever ordered online. The first time I was ever hyped about Yu-Gi-Oh months before it happened who's winning the announced this support.
Small correction the new Neos Yubel fusion is called "Elemental Hero - Neos Kluger" Kluger is german for smarter, which is a refference Neos wiseman. Furthermore to all of Yubels form and Yubel herself have German in them. Yubel is basicle the Katakana for Übel l, which basicly means evil or bad in german. Terror incarnate is "das abscheulich ritter" which is the disgusting knight and "Ultimate Nightmare" is "das extem traurig Drache" which is the extemly sad dragon.
God I love Yubel and Judai's relationship. They're so wholesome together. I also love that before Judai got his memories back, his favourite card was Flame Wingman; a fusion between male and female monsters with the power of a dragon.
Since Yubel's gender was brought up, a little fact I've always liked is how the more masculine side of Yubel's demon form keeps the hair and eye colour of their human form, a nice design detail.
Battle Mania is a old card that forces your opponent to attack with all monsters (so there was some cards that help Yubel). And Harden Arm Dragon makes it were you don't ever need to tribute monsters to keep Yubel on the field.
Know what would be cool? If and when the next batch of Evil Hero support comes, it would be awesome if we could get their version of Kluger. An Evil Hero + Yubel Fusion, sort of representing a "what if" scenario. In this case, representing what if the Supreme King had won and joined with Yubel instead.
I want to add a little bit of context on Yubel's personal pronouns in Japanese, since there's a little bit of nuance there. "僕" (Boku), the pronoun Yubel uses, does not necessarily mean they were male. Yes, it is used predominantly by males, but it is not uncommon, in fiction or real life, to see women using 僕 to refer to themselves for a variety of reasons. In GX itself, Rei (Or Blair in the dub) very frequently uses 僕 as her personal pronoun, except when she's trying to flirt. This is not to say Yubel is for sure a woman, but it is to say that their gender is very purposefully kept unclear, though her female voice is the one that would continue to be used in Season 4, Duel Links and even promotional material.
The timing is perfect. I have been playing this deck for a few days now and it's so much fun, especially when combined with Unchained cards for a pure masochist deck
So you know how Yubel was supposed to be a Neo-Spacian monster? I was thinking about a series of Neo-Spacian retrains for them (I’m going with LIGHT for Yubel since the other Neo-Spacian monsters have the other attributes covered, and also as a symbol of how Yubel could have been better if they had avoided the Light Of Destcuction) _Chrysalis Yubel_ (LIGHT) Level 2 Fiend/Effect (Quick Effect) You can reveal this card from your hand: Add 1 “Neo Space” from your deck or GY to your hand. @@dylanahern7039 OK, I SEE… Moss was already the LIGHT one… I had honestly forgotten about it until now. But be real, wouldn’t THESE all be much better cards anyway?
18:28 It's funny you mention this cause Flame Wingman - Infernal Rage searches a "favourite" card, Jaden's favourite Elemental hero upgrade helps him search for his Eternal Favourite, Yubel and bring her to his field as well. Fitting
This is so fantastic to see because now I can actually play Yubel on its own without splashing it into other archetypes to pull off it's effect. Although I did use a selected few fiend type decks because it felt it made sense to run it in a dark related deck than fire king but fire king is much faster as getting its second form out.
At the start of the final duel Yubel feels like Akiza from 5D's why? Well: Yubel plays some flowers and rose cards just like Akiza, they both have secret powers, and they both have crushes on the main protagonists.
That and pain plays a big part in their characters. Yubel's masochism as a form of love (pre-Jaden saving them) and Akiza's sadism as an extension of her self-hatred (pre-Yusei saving her). That and their aces center around destroying themselves: Yubel to get stronger and Black Rose taking everyone else with it Two sides of the same coin really. Different but similar
9:22 Jajajaja. Reminds me of a meme when Yuri activates super polymerization in Arc-V. Yuri: "Super Polymerization Active." Edo Phoenix: "Jaden didn't sacrifice all of his friends for this!" P.D. In the Latin Spanish dub Yubel's voice was always female and the parts where she spoke male were replaced or omitted.
Something to note about Samsara D Lotus. It’s seemingly a combination of two cards Yubel used: Samsara Lotus and Regenerating Rose. Regenerating Rose’s OCG name is “Split Demon Rose”, with the word “Demon” represented by the alphabet letter “D”. On Samsara D Lotus, you can see thorn-covered vines similar to the ones you can see on Regenerating Rose.
I've been playing with a Yubel Deck since the first release of the cards. I used mostly Yubel's first form along with Unfortunate Battle Report and Battle Mania to not only force my opponent to attack with all their monsters on the field at the time, but they had to do their Battle Phase that turn twice for a max of 10 mandatory attacks per turn. When the YGOPRO got the timing for Samsara Lotus wrong to work with the deck, I had to start using Treeborn Frog instead. These new support cards for Yubel make me wanna start playing again, but I'll make due with just getting some of the cards. Yubel is still my overall favorite archtype right next to HEROES. I guess GX really was my favorite time of Yu-Gi-Oh,
Actually fun fact about Mature Chronicle is that it says you can remove Chronicle Counters from your FIELD to activate its effect. Soooooo, that means you could use the two together if you wanted to XD
I've been rewatching the Grand Championship arc, and I noticed that by paying attention to all the cards in the opponent's hand, something I learned from watching your channel, he could've defeated Yugi on his final turn. It was in episode 185, the battle between the Duel Robot in Kaiba Land and Yugi before the proper tournament even started. It would be interesting to do a duel analysis on that.
Along with the Indian religion references I would also like to add in that she may be a reference to a alchemy philosophy known as magnum opus or to be more precise a rebis! A being who is a hermaphrodite and is a mixture of masculine and feminine traits, though I could be wrong with how I explained it
When I think about it, GX was the one Yugioh series that made me think about the creation of new cards through card design competitions. I'd love to try my hand in stuff like that.
Oh my god Eternal Favorite had me in tears. I thought it was a badass card bc of the pose and flames but you can just barely see Jaden. I did not notice that before 😭
Something I didn't realize until very recently was that Samsara D Lotus is also a reference to Regenerating Rose, one of the few monsters Yubel used that didn't get the retrain treatment. Regenerating Rose's original Japanese name was スプリット・Ⅾ・ローズ (pronounced "Split Demon Rose"), while Samsara D Lotus was サクリファイス・Ⅾ・ロータス ("Sacrifice Demon Lotus"), and on top of this, Samsara D Lotus's body now has thorns growing all over it, unlike the original Samsara Lotus but very akin to Regenerating Rose. I'd always been kind of fond of that card, and knowing this reference makes its recent absence sting a bit less.
So I've been rewatching GX and I'm on season 3. Eternal Favorite's artwork is also the form Yubel took to protect the capsule when they were falling from space back into earth
Yubel had the potential to be a platinum ranked deck but it’s summoning restrictions made that impossible like why is mikanko so much easier to summon when the entire archetype does the same thing as Yubel basically
I LOVE YUBEL SHE HAS ODD EYES LIKE ME (BUT IM HAZEL/GREEN AND SHE IS ORANGE/GREEN) AND I ALWAYS LOVED THAT DETAUL WHEN I WAS A YOUNG GIRL (NOW ODD-EYES PENDULUM DRAGON AND YUBEL ARE 2 OF MY FAVORITE CARDS)
Man I wish heterochromia was more common. Between Yubel and Yuna from FFX, I've always wanted a girl with that feature. Never feel bad about your "odd" eyes.
Hey Sam, my name is Jordan I’m from Ireland and I am visually impaired and I love the videos that you do on these topics of Yu-Gi-Oh! and even your character tools and for you doing these as a visually impaired person I know what cards the characters have in their hands when they do each other now, so you make things better in my opinion
Had a friend in college who ran a Yubel deck. Hated playing that deck. He had it set up to put Yubel at the forefront early and often, and it was a pain to play against
9:35 Something I realised when playing master duel is that super polymerization can actually be stopped when played. The scared beast deck has Cerulean Skyfire and when that is live you can still negate it for some reason.
Neither player can activate cards or effects in response to Super Poly, however, cards like Cerulean Skyfire and Imperial Order are continuous effects and are already activated on the field if they are face up.
So fun fact, Yubel's EP effect is that, an effect, for the longest time I always thought it was a Maintance cost sikilar to the Koa'ki Mierus but nope, on Onega dueled againat a Luck sacky Bystial Lightsworn player and he made Baguska and during the EP Yubel wasnt able to tribute a monster (I say Lucky because he milled 2 wulf off Charge and the 3rd plus a Felis off Solar Recharge)
Notice that yubels pose specifically her left and is making Jaden’s iconic “gotcha” pose or in the dub he those the pose will saying “that’s game” most of the time
I remember when I first seen Yubel in duel links, I have never heard of it before because I never seen the show. I quickly ready over the effect, and just banished it with the magician deck. The opponent quit.
Honestly I stopped playing yugioh years ago and haven't seen any of the movies or new stuff BUT this set got me back into buying the cards, I personally used yubel and terror incarnate along the elemental heroes with 2 sacred beasts for my deck and it wasn't bad. I have to say this vid showed more support cards than what some pro players mentioned most don't use mature chronicle or eternal favorite not even grinder golem, admittedly i don't fully understand yugioh as it is right now (th a link monster and why so much text lol, and then there's pendulum..) but relearning it is so much fun definitely going to take some pointers from this vid so I can make a deck just for it. (Might need to purchase some cards solo my luck with packs after loving defender has been mute.)
Yubel finally getting their own archetype and it being pretty solid makes my kid self really happy lol. I also appreciate that the cards represent Yubel and her deck post season 3. You can even see her playfull , cheeky side in the Defender Forever Fusiom where she mot only references Flame Wingman but also makes almost a little finger gun gesture lol
It's good thing that past iconic monsters get dedicated support to play better in current game, whether it could hold its own against mainstream meta or not
It is heavily great to see yubel finally obtaining some meta improvements and support. It is my favorite design character throughout all of GX and her own archetype is finally self reliant.
Spell Chronicle is actually really broken in witchcrafters when combined with witchcrafter Patronus as it allows you to fill your graveyard with a whole bunch of witchcraft spells that will all add themselves back to your hand allowing you to go upwards of plus 5
I'm so glad that Yubel finally got some love by getting her own archetype. One of the downsides of it is that it needs to be paired with another archetype like the Fire Kings so it can make use of each other's effects. But all together, I'm glad that sometime in the near future, i can have enough Yubel cards to possibly make a Yubel deck for fun for nostalgia.
Most fun I've had with Yubel was running her in a Dark-Arm Dragon deck, and using DAD to immediately summon Ultimate Nightmare upon reaching the field. My friend (who has been playing YGO a lot longer than I have) called it "disgusting" when I used it against his Monarchs deck.
@@Ahloveyafuhso I won the first duel, but unfortunately, we were doing a best-of-three, and once he learned the trick of the deck, he beat me the next two duels.
I love that Grinder Golem and Samsara Lotus both got an archtype retrain while both are still forbidden today because of how broken they are, Grinder Golem specifically.
They're victims of becoming broken with the introduction of new game mechanics/cards. Before Link Monsters, Grinder Golem was only used in super niche decks.

RIP Hiromi Tsuru. i cant believe i never noticed that Yubel was voiced by Bulma from DBZ.
That's an amazing interpretation!
There is also the card That’s literally just the philosophers stone
GX out of all the series has great amount of references to alchemy
Yubel will always be such a sick spiritual guardian to me. She (or they) and Jaden in season 4 needed more moments and the heterochronic eyes are flawless. Also while it doesn't really count, Neos Kluger is one of my favourite Neo Fusions.
Also love all the references from Season 3 with the new support and how they are sorta linked to Jaden. They are internally bonded forever.
You bet Neos Kluger counts! Especially now since you can use Fusion deployment to two special summon Yubel from your deck.
I always try to make a yubel deck work in the tag force games, despite how hard it is. I'll always love our they/them masochist demon!
@@morningstar9849Yubel, Earthbound, and Illusion mixed together are pretty good
Funnily enough, another GX archetype actually can stop Super Poly.
Another effect similar to this is destiny hero Dark angel it too can negate super poly
6:45 that is an interesting interpretation of yubel, however, i think the more accurate reference could be that they symbolized the androgyn, a concept in alechemy to be reffered to as the perfect being. it makes more sense thematically, since alchemy has been a part of gx's lore since season 1. (not to mention how it also reflects flame wingman, how he is created by fusing a male and female, an precedure to create an adrogyn, possibly hinting what yubels ritual was like)
I still have a soft spot for Yubel because she was mixed with Fire King and Nephthys to be meta in Duel Links for a while.
I always love the fact Yubel's duel disk grows out of there arm. I love that pattern in yugioh villains, it makes them feel more abnormal.
So, no matter what version you watch, Yubel is a trans icon and I love that for them 😌
Yubel is such a cool archetype
I actually like neos Wiseman and it's improve version because pretty show how Versatile elemental hero neos is (in the anime anyway)
Yes finally I love the yubel archetype
It's a remake
@roninwarriorsfan I was wanting him to talk about the new support
Spirit of Yubel is a level 10 monster though
I'm loving the love they've been giving the old archetypes, like Gate Guardians
Small correction the new Neos Yubel fusion is called "Elemental Hero - Neos Kluger"
Kluger is german for smarter, which is a refference Neos wiseman.
So is Yubel the first actual Odd-Eyes monster with those eyes
Terror Incarnate is when it leaves the field, just a small correction as its key for some plays.
Can their be a Morphtronic monster archetype video. Those cards were actually strong to use.
14:36 I love using this card with Witchcrafters. It synergizes so well you'd think it was intentional.
You know there is a cultured comic that shows how...invested the two characters are mostly Jaden's past self...
Ohhh??????
Okay yubel. Good card and honestly a cool deck now
Yubel archetype is finally here!
Yubel best demon waifu
I love that Neos and Yubel have a card that has “Spirit Of” in its name.
So you know how Yubel was supposed to be a Neo-Spacian monster?
I was thinking about a series of Neo-Spacian retrains for them (I’m going with LIGHT for Yubel since the other Neo-Spacian monsters have the other attributes covered, and also as a symbol of how Yubel could have been better if they had avoided the Light Of Destcuction)

Hermaphrodite demon yandere got me acting unwise
At the start of the final duel Yubel feels like Akiza from 5D's why? Well: Yubel plays some flowers and rose cards just like Akiza, they both have secret powers, and they both have crushes on the main protagonists.
That and pain plays a big part in their characters. Yubel's masochism as a form of love (pre-Jaden saving them) and Akiza's sadism as an extension of her self-hatred (pre-Yusei saving her). That and their aces center around destroying themselves: Yubel to get stronger and Black Rose taking everyone else with it
Two sides of the same coin really. Different but similar
9:22 Jajajaja.
Reminds me of a meme when Yuri activates super polymerization in Arc-V.
Yuri: "Super Polymerization Active."
Edo Phoenix: "Jaden didn't sacrifice all of his friends for this!"
Good point there!
I guess GX really was my favorite time of Yu-Gi-Oh,
Remember, Judai is such a chad he was able to cure someone of being a yandere.
Yubel, the precursor of "Psychos with fixations using Plant monsters in their decks"
Poor akiza she didnt get the super poly memo
Along with the Indian religion references I would also like to add in that she may be a reference to a alchemy philosophy known as magnum opus or to be more precise a rebis! A being who is a hermaphrodite and is a mixture of masculine and feminine traits, though I could be wrong with how I explained it
Other commenters have brought of Rebis!
@@Ramsey276one cool glad I'm not the only one
When I think about it, GX was the one Yugioh series that made me think about the creation of new cards through card design competitions. I'd love to try my hand in stuff like that.
Just in time to cook dinner.
I just picked up the deck yesterday and thought 'I wonder when Sam will do an updated Yubel video' lol

So fun fact, Yubel's EP effect is that, an effect, for the longest time I always thought it was a Maintance cost sikilar to the Koa'ki Mierus but nope, on Onega dueled againat a Luck sacky Bystial Lightsworn player and he made Baguska and during the EP Yubel wasnt able to tribute a monster

Notice that yubels pose specifically her left and is making Jaden’s iconic “gotcha” pose or in the dub he those the pose will saying “that’s game” most of the time

Yubel was actually a fun deck in duel links when Yubel came out and even now it’s fun to use every now and then
I remember when I first seen Yubel in duel links, I have never heard of it before because I never seen the show. I quickly ready over the effect, and just banished it with the magician deck. The opponent quit.
Pretty much every important card is just Yubel in a different form.

We're never gonna get number archetype trivia, are we?
Let’s be honest, if he does do it, it will probably be the episode that he decides to end his career with.
I feel no shame in saying that I would simp for Yubel in a heartbeat.
Samsara Lotus really said I'm gonna become king of the pirates.
Yubel is an honorary Devilman character.
11:55 And it's taking the position of himself when he was attacking yubel as Echo before Adrian loses the duel
Ultimate Nightmare + Flashing Sword Tryce was my favorite combo back in the day.
