Thank you for this video. It's a shame that those pumping down the aquifers can't see the harm they're doing.

Hi there! Thanks for the information. Personally, I think golf courses should either be shut down or very heavily taxed.
Anyway, I am thinking about moving to the desert and was wondering if it might be possible to use mesquites as an alternative to drilling a well. Birch and maple are excellent sources of water, and with the mesquite’s ability to reach the aquifers with such deep taproots, I don’t understand why this hasn’t been thought of before. I’ve seen videos of water gushing from mesquites after limbs are cut off.
I don’t want to cut limbs off them, but I believe tapping them might yield a gallon or more of clean water every day per tree. Sure beats paying to dig a well if it works!
    Am I missing something?

Thank you for the explanation. Very interesting, and yes...we must conserve water and natural ecosystems if we want to keep our planet healthy and diverse.

I learned something , thx. I've been walking in that area lately and noticed that no large old Mesquite trees were present, just little scrubs. The dead ones that had limbs cut for firewood decades ago are all dead now.

Check out the book rainwater harvesting for drylands and beyond by brad Lancaster. Got some cool ideas on rainwater conservation. Idk might help.

What a sad story. We have the ability to replenish acquirers and yet we continue to choose the opposite as a species.

Would be nice if locals could dig pits and seasonal dams to store more water

I hate driving through Palm desert/La Quinta and watching them just pump all that water into lawns, golf courses, and fountains. A damn shame

This is more than likely from people and farmers with wells and it has been taking water away from the water table over time no other solution

There are plenty solutions. The harvesting of rain water being one. Watch brad lancaster.

So not an increasing human population using more water but agriculture is to blame? Got it.
