  • We went fishing for halibut on Papa Joe's boat in Homer, Alaska and then halibut fishing from shore in Nininlchik and Kasilof. So which did we do better on? Surf casting for halibut or fishing from the boat? Which way would you choose if you were to fish for halibut in Alaska?

    I've lived in Alaska two times previously. I am moving back up for good. I've fished in Ninilchik several times in years past and your video strikes up wonderful memories. We were catching salmon where the river dumps into the Cook inlet there at Ninilchik. Thank you for sharing this video. I can say that I've been there and done that and that's why I identify with your video so much. Thank you so much for sharing your adventures. It's really appreciated and you have a wonderful family. You're doing it right!

      yes it definitely can and did. That would have really been the only day for us to go out in the boat. The days that we were fishing the shore were both blow off days for the boat. I imagine we would have beat the halibut count for the boat had the weather been nice. However, we spent a lot of time fishing for King Salmon in the boat and didn't really target halibut well either. When we go for just halibut in the boat everyone has pretty good odds of catching their limit.

    Nothing feels quiet as nice as catching a good eating fish from shore. You know God has blessed you when the simplest things are the best things you enjoy and feel a part of in your soul. Best natural therapy God ever gave to man. Teach him how to fish in a day and he has a way of surviving for life. Give thanks and praise to the Lord and it will be all right. Let the fish catch itself makes you feel you outsmarted a real pea brain

    Looks like Papa did a nice upgrade on his boat. Looks like he went from a 20 or maybe 22 open Hewescraft to a 24 hard top North River.
    I have had the weather turn on me many times out of Homer and have had rides back like that. Takes a while to unclinch everything.

      We were not successful on our hunts this year and I didnt have time to edit any during season because I was working too much. That hunting video at the cabin was the only one I put out from this year. My buddy pulled a sheep tag this year thats high probability and my brother in law, him and I will be moose hunting together this fall so I should have some good ones if all goes well

    I haven't purchased fish for over 10 maybe 15 years. I got all my fishing licenses for fresh water, salt water and a few different types of salmon. Looks like they want the person to tag the salmon or something like a deer. This is all weird to me. We had the sandy river in our backyard so I rarely ever got a fishing license. I just fished from our land in Oregon. But getting older and moving around I need to get the fishing license. I'm going a little off subject but I was going to say I was just at our local store in Westport Washington here. They were having a seafood sale. It blew my mind the price of fish. For the lingcod I was wanting, the sell price is $13.99 a pound. I passed on it and got some clams and stuffed salmon fillets. They were good. I'm going out on the jetty sometimes this week to catch my own lingcod and rock bass. With the prices in the stores each big lingcod could be like a $100-$200 fish. Prices are crazy. Now I just need to see if the fishing plant here will buy fish from private citizens or do they only buy from commercial fisherman. Prices are so crazy high

    • @HowtoAlaska
      @HowtoAlaska  2 роки тому +1

      Out of curiosity I checked halibut fillet prices...$25-$35/lb. that means we ended up with $1250-$1750 in retail value for our weekend of fishing.

      @@HowtoAlaska now that's a good fishing haul. It amazes me on the prices of fish. I think I got spoiled just fishing for my own fish and not needing to buy them in the stores. Those halibut you guys caught was nice looking. Lots of meat. Everytime you pull one up, I bet you will remember that price per pound. 😁

      Yes once caught a 30 over off the shore beach in Ventura California on 15lb test on a feather weight stick on salted sardine. That all the bait I had and just tried it out. Blew my mind. Real good eating for a week. Alaska has the best fishing in the Americas no doubt
      Obey the fishing rules and laws so out kifs and their kids if we make it can have the fun we had. God bless this earth and all the bounty we enjoy. Yo hell with all the evil and greedy fools that think theyre the best thing that man has to offer. Karma is cool when not finally gets the address of the evil ones shows up and takes care of business for us all. Tight now she's really searching hard in Eastern Europe for a whole lot of scumbags. Be great ful the world will put an end to a ruthless scumbag and his tyrant thug partners. Scum at the top of the dead pool seems to keep coming from that region of the world for a reason. That's where supression always keeps them in a living hell that only benifits a few of the biggest morons eastern Europe has to offer. The world will be a better place when they destroy themselves with their own greed and inventions that never got past the world wars mentality except for it's capability to destroy.
