Wow. Checking if the final mix output is done correctly is a priceless component of the course.
Indeed
Most people laugh at me when I tell them I use audacity for my edits & remixes, I really don't care because it gets the job done for me.
It's a good bit of kit.
Whatever works! You might like the added functionality of a fully fledged DAW though
i guess Im randomly asking but does anyone know a method to log back into an instagram account..?
I was dumb lost my login password. I love any help you can offer me.
Thanks DJ great topic and AUDACITY is truly a game changer.
Agreed!
One of the greatest used this software to make the masterpiece "Untrue". Burial changed the face of underground music forever.
A legend for sure :)
For ripping vinyl - I use the record function within Serato then edit in Audacity.
Awesome :)
Yep, I'll do nearly the same, except I don't use serato, I ripped it directly through audacity
Same here. Record using level monitor in serato then normalise/amplify and click remove in audacity.
Clickbait title resolver: 03:19 Audacity
Yes, the one prominently displayed on the thumbnail ;)
Well damn, I was thinking "Operating System".
I have used this from its early days ,its use is immense, highly recommended
Nice one John
Great Video, i picked up Sound booth years back and use it all the time to clean up mixes, A long time ago i was asked to step in and dj for a all female roller derby league. I was able to use the sound editing software to build a set of female punk rock tracks editing out some foul language to make if family friendly and the teams loved it.
That's awesome, good work!
Audacity is a great way for those with rekordbox controllers and already have performance mode to avoid subscribing to rekordbox 6.
It's a great tool to have available as a DJ :)
Really loving the course Phil. As a student already I got the early bird notification and it is superb. Can highly recommend it.
Thanks Kev!

Thanks :)
Thank you Phil for your time and effort. i had the problem that traktor still had the limiter on haha.. beginner's fault.
Glad to help :)
Wow. Great video. Thanks for the audacity tips. 💯💯
No problem!
What is the different between audacity and Sony acid?
You'll be able to do the same thing in both when it comes to mixtapes :)
I use Platinum Notes to adjust. Am I good to go with that for adjustment
What happened to using the LoudMax plugin you used to recommend? It still works great for me and it will get much loud than the normalize example you showed.
That's a limiter, the Pro way of doing things :) Keep using it!
I've been using audacity to about 20 years, but never knew it could split a large mix down and add titles etc. Is there a video for that tutorial?
We don't have any Audacity tutorials on UA-cam, some other channels might though :)
I use it more than 13 years ago
Nice! It's been around a while :)
Hi Phil can you alter more than one file at a time? For instance if I wanted to change a folder with say 20 tracks in it to the same volume or bpm would this be possible or would I have to do them all individually? Thanks
You need to import them into Audacity and then export them separately so not how you're hoping I would guess
Saludos desde San Francisco California para el mundo de djs
Thank you for share this
No problem!
Its a very good tip. I usted it to make edits and equalizer some tracks
Awesome :)
Yeah, this dj software isnt complicated and does a great job.
For sure :)
I've got a question - When I click effects - normalize there is a settings window popping up with "Normalize Maximum Amplitude" set to "-1.0 dB". What is this setting responsible for?
It amplifies the waveform. The -1dB is what you want the new maximum to be.
Yep as tomstickland says
Just learn to use a DAW. Music production is a whole other ball game. I make music but was curious about DJing funny how this was one of the first videos that showed up lol There's a lot of great free DAWs out there. Even if you don't want to produce DAWs offer more versatility when it comes to making mash ups, remixing, effects of tempo and pitch.
That's certainly one option, Audacity works great though and is fine for a decent portion of our audience who use it regularly
Great video, thanks.
Thanks for watching :)
Does it work for Windows?
Yes
Yes it does
I always found the Audacity user interface confusing. I have an old Pro Tools DiGi001 system running on an old G4 Mac. Does the job and the interface is a hell of a lot more elegant and easier to navigate in my humble opinion.
It's certainly not the prettiest to look at or easiest to use, Pro Tools isn't great either to be fair but "industry standard" and all that lol they all get the job done though!
Is it my or does Audacity look like ReCycle from Reason?? I used ReCycle to edit, chop, stretch, reverse, and normalize. Than I could save it to wave, or MP3 like back in 2005. I would used the Sony Vegas app or Adobe app to arrange.
Sure, a lot of wave editors from that era look pretty similar
So I add dj drop, sweeps, imagining?
So I can add
I still have issues trying to load audacity on my computer. Don't know if I'm visiting the right sites to prevent getting viruses.
This is the correct website: www.audacityteam.org/download/
HI Phil, I beleive Mac users need to use a thirdparty plug in like Soundflower for internal routing of audio to record. Can you show some lights on that please?
Yes, if you want to record - say- your DJ software, you need audio routing, and Soundflower can achieve this. Also look at Black Hole (free) and Loopback (paid for).
Quick question. I'm looking to fix my library (16TB) and add the year to all my songs so I can better organize. Is there a program you recommend that will help me with that? Cheers
MP3 Tag Editor (Free). U can use this to fix/change all ur tag info, including; dates, etc. Been using this program for like 8yrs!
Good suggestion Eric :)
so i'm looking for a way to normalize all my songs in my crate to mix then record, how can i do that with audacity?
Believe you can batch normalise tracks in Audacity with the use of chains, but you'll likely want go for a different software that specialises in that, eg MP3Gain or Platinum Notes :)
Hi there
Thanks for watching :)
Or just use Goldwave as the cool guys do :D
Sure, they all pretty much do the same job :)
Can you do a video showing me how to edit a song and make it into a dubplate , with this program sounds cool.
Thanks for the suggestion Mickell :)
Hi Phil.
I use audacity to record my mix's through controller to iRig Stream to laptop. Is there any way of recording straight from controller to audacity? Because I get a humming noise when going through iRig. All my levels are low. I watched one of your videos about virtual cable and still couldn't record without iRig!!
Thanks 👍🏼
The way you are doing it is the right way, it sounds like you may have a defective cable.
Thanks Phil. Keep up the good work. You've really helped me improve my DJing. Top man 👍🏼🎚️🎛️🎧
Whats great about Audacity is. NO SUBSCRIPTION! 🤣😂
Very true!
Looks very Mac OS9 !
Yeah it's not the prettiest!
I use it to make Edit versions
Nice one!
Hi Phil. Can Audacity remove vocals from a track? If not, do you know of software that will? Thank you.
No it can't, you'll need something like Xtrax Stems, Neural Mix Pro etc
Virtual DJ, latest version you can do it "live" with the stems feature and record the song. That's what I do, just takes time. Also make my own a cappella/samples that way. Being able to do it at will in VDJ is awesome though.
There is also plugin's for DAW that can do it, but they come at a price. Like iZotope RX $1199 :-)
@@digitaldjtips Thank you.
great tool
Agreed!
You can use it on a Chromebook that has Linux Beta capabilities.
Cool :)
You can not export in mp3 without downloading the extra plugin due to mp3 licencing.
In the latest versions you can export to mp3 straight from Audacity I believe
@@digitaldjtips thanks I'll upgrade latest version and try as it can be a pain in the ass
top tips, ta v.mutch.
No problem!
Can you record live on Audacity on the same laptop your using to DJ?
6:50
Yep for sure :
Does it allow you to remove DJ drops ?
If you're chopping it out completely then yes sure, if you're trying to remove from a track and leave the underlying music then no
I used Audacity to create mashups when I didn't have A DAW
Awesome! It's a great bit of software
When is the dj competitions??
What DJ competitions?
@@digitaldjtips we talked before and we said we need more infraction with the audience and attracting new audiences and make the loyalty to the courses increase by interacting with you guys in the most thing they love, and also they many people I see here are new into djing so maybe this will encourage them when you give them a chance every month and the rewards could be something simple like a free course for a period of time a simple headphones or a colouration with any dj software membership, I started djing 2004 but I never got to really care until when youtube was made 2005 I think and there was a guy from England his name I can't remember escalte maybe and he made something called the 10 min mix competition and it encouraged me to dj more, all I'm saying because I am a regular subscriber to your channel this is a huge missing link between you guys as great dj school and youtubers and the people it will make things real and cost nothing, think about it ♡ all the love and respect 🙌
Ah cool, I had no idea what you mean without the context. Competitions sound fun but we've got a lot on our plate at the moment, we'll certainly keep it in mind though! :)
Why do DJs seem to think they are musicians ???
Do they? As someone who is both can't say I've ever noticed that
cool edit pro ftw
:)
Must be my age because everytime someone says game changer it never is. Serato was the last Dj innovation that really made a big difference to me.
If you've never used one before then we think it is a game changer, it opens up a lot of new creative possibilities for DJs
VDJ has an AWESOME feature in their program that will normalize your music
Cool :)
Audition is way better does a lot more but not free
Yeah Audition is great
