  • On this video, I compare 6 different brands of acrylic paints that are suitable to use in coloring books. They can be used for backgrounds and/or images. I tell why I like certain brands and why I dislike others. I am not getting any compensation from any company mentioned in this video. I have bought these products with my own money.

I do like the Folkart and Apple Barrel but found the Deco a little too thin for my liking.

Hi Sandy. I would suggest that instead of using a white base for the hissi co that you use a similar color in matte underneath the iridenscent one.I had a similar problem when L was painting ceramics and that technique solved my dilemma.

Maybe you could use them for gel printing.

I haven't gel printed in a long time. I basically do coloring in books. But thanks for the suggestion.

When you use the paint to color Sandy, do you water it down some or directly from the bottle? Do you use those water brushes or just plain paint brushes. I used to paint the plaster wall hangings and still nave a ton of those paint containers, not sur if they are any good anymore though. I love those vintage colors, nice and bright. Thank you for this video Sandy, very informative.

On backgrounds, I don't water them down at all. I use them straight out of the bottle. If the paint is too thick then I put a few drops of Folk Art Extender in the paint. That way, the color doesn't change. It only thins it and keeps it from drying out so quickly. But when I use the paint on the images, I usually thin the paint out a bit or thin it for a wash. You can use water to thin the paint but then it dilutes the colors. I use a regular paint brush and once in awhile I clean it off and then blot the excess water. The brush will start to dry and get clumps. That's why I clean it periodically. I will make a video where I am painting. Stay tuned its coming up.
