The island -- which is also known as Little San Salvador Island -- is a Carnival Corporation private island that offers quick and easy access to snorkeling, whether you take a ship excursion or you bring your own equipment and snorkel at the beach. It really depends on where you're sailing from and the ship's itinerary. If you're sailing out of Florida or similar, it's usually only a day or two before you're at Half Moon Cay.

Ok I'm directionally challenged. When walking from the entrance to the beach which way is South? Right or left?
No worries! As you're looking from the beach to the water, left is South and right is North. So, if you enter the beach from the "main" entrance near the island's Information Hut, the snorkeling is basically directly in front of you and just a bit to the left. This is the view you see in the photo at the 1:10 mark in the video. Hope this helps!
Can sharks get in that area
I have never snorkeled. I'm assuming you brought your own equipment. From where did you purchase your equipment, and was it cumbersome to pack?
We purchased mask/snorkel combinations from Amazon. We also purchased some snorkel vests to help keep the day relaxing. We packed everything among the shoes and miscellaneous stuff, so it was very easy to bring along.
Can you rent snorkels at the island?
