@@abrahamjoseph6707 thank you!! It's easy once you get the basics down! I run PE1 YGK to 12lb fluoro leader - everything is listed in the video description.
Once you have the grub attached to the hook, twist a thin wire thru the ring on the blades and push the other end of the wire thru the grub and come out to where the hook shank comes thru the grub and twist the wire on to the hook👍
I like it but my concern is the stiff wire deadening the action of the jerk shad. I experimented with very long screwlocks but it made the bait stiff and dead in the water.
Basically I have a "strike" setting to make sure the hook point gets buried past the barb, but then the goal is to set your drag loose enough that a big fish can run yet not so loose that you can't gain line when they're not making a run. With fluke you can't really tell size until you lay eyes on them so I'm dialing/redialing in my drag quite a bit. As long as I can keep a full load on my rod and can pump the fish in, I want that drag as loose as possible. You get a feel for it after knowing exactly how much pressure you're applying to the fish, knowing your gear etc. Hope that makes sense.
@@CookingandFishing So if I’m understanding correctly your drag is set tighter to bury the hook on the hook set, and then you loosen it by feel and experience so you gain line when the fish is turned toward you and not running away. Got it.
@@FireDanielJones Exactly - relatively tight drag for the hookset, then dial it back during the fight and by the time that fish is straight up and down your drag is like 30-40% of initial strike setting.
Got my first set, already lost 2. One was definitely a bite at least. I could only get 5" jerk chad and definitely need to cut the tail shorter to a thicker part.
Thanks! My primary JB rod is the Expride B 72ML, paired to the Alphas SV TW or Zillion SV TW - in this video I was using the Tatula 80 TW - all excellent choices.
Thanks! I have everything listed in my jerkbait videos, but the main ones are the Zipbaits Kaira 80SP, LC Pointer 78DD, and the one that fish followed up was the Pointer 100DD
Hey this is Pedro from kepti fishing, and I got a quick question what size blade are you using I have been using a 1 inch blade but no luck yet but a great video and great tips for fishing the kayak
Thank you!! The one that the fluke followed up was the Pointer 100DD - I was also throwing the Zipbaits Shad Kaira 80SP. The Pointer 78DD is a good all around JB...I have all that stuff listed in my jerkbaits videos!
I've tried ALL the soft plastics, unfortunately nothing comes close. You'll catch fish on Zman smeared with procure, keitechs, jackall Raid deps but it's often 10:1 in favor of gulp...we've done a lot of side by side testing mainly bc I can't stand using gulp but it is what it is.
I've experimented with longer screwlocks and they do affect the action of the bait, though it might be worth it if you have a lot of small fluke pulling off the blades. The other thing is the longer screw tend to kink up the bait - but definitely experiment with it and let us know how it works out - I don't want people losing blades left and right if there's a way to mitigate it!
I'm using the 76MLM Steez AGS which is a bit long for the kayak, but any 6'6 - 7'2 ML - M FRESHWATER rod - Zodias, Tatula etc will work. I have links to several rods for every budget in the video description, but for kayak specific rods I would just go down in length.
I'm not sure what you're asking haha...if a fish pulls off the blade, you lost a blade! I'm working on ways to keep that to a minimum but it's definitely a challenge
Fluke and weaks shake hooks if not landed properly like no other. I’d even argue landing a tuna once boat side may even be easier than a fluke so long as you don’t high stick and you have your drag set right.
@@robe997 Fluke play dead, shake their head vertically unlike round fish, and can reverse at 80% speed - for a fish that don't jump I've seen a remarkable number of big fluke lost boatside lol.
Very informative video 🙏👊👍
Really great video Rodger. Your technique is very unique and equally effective. You are an excellent teacher of the craft.
Thanks Frank!! Hope you have a great season this year!
Received my 2 pack. Thanks roger
What line is that and how many lb line? You make it look easy Roger. Amazing.

I notice you seem to adjust your drag on every fish you are reeling in. What adjustment are you making and why?

What net is that?
Fishpond Nomad Mid Length Boat Net.
Got my first set, already lost 2. One was definitely a bite at least. I could only get 5" jerk chad and definitely need to cut the tail shorter to a thicker part.
Very nice video once again. Is that setup using the crank the same setup for the surf? And if it is can you produce a link of reel and rod ?

Hey Roger, love your videos man, which jerkbaits are you typically throwing for fluke?

Hey Pedro - as I assemble and sell these myself, all I can say is you have to play around with the size and shape blades. Tight lines!
@CookingandFishing gotcha thanks for the tip 👍
Roger , was that the lucky craft pointer 65 DD that you were using ?
I get al hyped up when I see your videos.
Thnx for the video!

@CookingandFishing thank you Roger !
Got a kayak to mess around on do you have any budget fish finder suggestions around 150$
I hear good things about the Garmin Striker 4? Mapping is important, if your unit doesn't have navionics get the app on your phone.
Have you tried using tougher soft plastics other than Gulp? Zman come to mind

“Mindlessly bouncing a jig under the boat all day” … 😂 … that’s going to trigger a lot of the so-called fluke fishing aficionados 🤪
I guess we can consider this a trigger warning 🤣
I make my own scewlock. Im going to make the screwlock longer and see how that preforms

Excellent content, maybe a dab of superglue after the screw lock is in place.
What rod or rods that you’ve tried do you recommend for this type of fishing ??

No more catch and cook?
It's just a flounder not huge tuna......
What's your point? It's just a flounder so you can suck at landing them? lol
