I have found this stone frustrating. I like the cutting power but no matter how long I soak the thing it refuses to keep water on the surface for an adequate length of time. And it loads. Worst of all, even though it is stubborn about water on the surface, it takes a long time to dry so it is retaining quite a bit so I am not sure what the issue is. I prefer other Imanishi 1k stones.

Seal the stone on a piece of flat glass, like Shapton Glass.
I have a Naniwa Traditional 220 that behaves the same, i've sealed it to a piece of wood and i soaked it in oil with high viscosity. I still use it with watter though with no problem, and now it retains watter far longer than before.
I have Imanishi Arashiyama 1000 that is almost splash&go, harder than Suehiro, good stone, and also Arashiyama 6000 and Kitayama. Indeed they are different stones.

@@TocilarulTimisorean I got it in a lot of waterstones I bought second hand as it was inexpensive and had a few stones I was always curious to try. My go to 1k is the Ohishi which I think is Imaniashi as well. It's almost splash and go. It's sort of splash a few times and then go. It also feels more rock-like which I like. The bester also doesn't have great feel under the blade. I don't know why the bester even exists anymore to be honest with you, it used to be considerably cheaper but now the price is in line with other offerings, at least here in america. I mean here if you want a soaker a cerax 1k is $20usd less if you shop around and that's an excellent stone.

@@kcb5150 Debado LD- #180, Cerax 1000, Cerax 400, Ouka 3000 and Cerax 6000 are my favourite stones cuz of the tactile, audio, visual feedback, performance, cuz you can do Kasumi finish on laminated japanese blades and overall price/value.
It is personal prefference though, but except they are not splash&go and softer than Shapton, for me they are the best value for what they offer.

@@TocilarulTimisoreanMy favorite low grit synth is the shapton glass 500. That stone seems happy with whatever you task it with. It's even consistent enough to do something like take large chips out of a straight razor and not leave carnage behind. As fast as 1k right now I have two ohishis, one is bound to the 8k which I hate because they are such dissimilar stones but it was secondhand and dirt cheap, the pink suehiro 1k, the bester, and I am sure I have a king somewhere because everyone seems to. I need a new 3k.. The thing with the 3k is I probably should just buy a chosera since I can get it for like 70ish usd here and it's proven on knives and razors and splash and go, but there are several really interesting stones at the 3k level. I have been using Japanese Waterstones for knives a lot more lately just for convenience given the volume I am doing. If I am just doing one knife here or there I tend to use true washita stones/Arkansas stones, Turkish Oilstones, or a Charnley forest stone. I was started on naturals with knives and razors and it is sort of my comfort zone.

I am really into Imanishi stones. But the #1000 I wouldn’t really recommend. Bester #1200 and #2000 are really amazing and having a nice feedback but the 1000 stone I hardly use anymore. I want to get into the splash&go series but if you want some amazing soaking stones than try out the #2000 bester.
