Lagunitas "WE DON'T KNOW WHAT IT IS IPA" sounds pretty good, too. I've been fortunate enough because of generous individuals to consume a lot of these new school West Coast IPAs, and this has very similar characteristics to those beers, just not as intense flavor-wise, and certainly not as bitter. I never recommended it, i just gave you a heads up, that you should be seeing it soon, and it was getting good reviews, and it looked great in the glass. And that was my problem with this, i thought it was lackluster and not enough bitterness. My 6 pack was like 7 weeks old, as well. Even picturing it at 3-4 weeks old, with the fruits being more intense, and i dont think the bitterness would die that much at 7 weeks. Pretty much a one and done for me, but I'll give it one more chance if i see it fresh. And it is a year round offering now. ..Cheers
Well, whether you recommended or suggested it, I appreciated the heads up. See, I'm with you on that it needs more bitterness, but damn did I find it tasty, especially for a cheaper shelfie. The top-tier new school West Coast IPA producers really make everything work well together. If Lagunitas can iron out the kinks with this one, it could be a fantastic beer. I really enjoyed trying it. Glad to hear it's year-round! Cheers!
thank for the review. I saw this one at the grocery store yesterday and was tempted to pick up a can. I am typically not a big fan of Lagunitas, but on occasion I enjoy their beers.

I have some unfortunate news with that, as the bottle literally has a big crack in it. I've been contemplating drinking it, as it's scary to think there *might* be glass in the beer. It doesn't look like it went all the way through to the other side, but considering I'm on heavy duty blood thinners, I don't think I'm going to chance it. If I can find another bottle locally, I'll still review it, though. It just won't be the bottle that Gregory sent me. Cheers, Rodney!

I don't think you've ever had a Monkish beer (since they don't really distro to the East Coast), but they're the closest I've seen to a true hybrid. All that hazy goodness, but they typically have a firm moderate bitterness with a bit of dank/herbaceous/pine character. They're delicious. Outside of that, it's tough to find. I think most Vermont IPAs do a good job bridging the gap. Cheers!

It was a pretty mixed bag. I would say the average was in the 3.75 range, with some under a 3.5, and some over a 4. Just seemed like it was all over the place. I really enjoyed it, and when you take value into consideration, it's a damn gem, haha! Cheers, Michael!

I'd love to see one of these East/West IPAs go the other way around. Give me cloud city with a ton of oats and dank, bitter, evergreen tasting hops.
