I think the reason why red(the real Addy) can't talk well is because
being a kid who knows a few things and living with people who don't know how to speak or have emotions will make her voice broken
since she doesn't get lessons from anyone

I love how other doppelganger just shows up and instantly kills their respective selves, however, the main characters are just sitting there with all the time in the world, to hear their reasons, motivations and come up with a plan to defeat them.
tbf thats cause they actually know each other prior to the first meeting. they werent fucking around for the sake of it. The mothers doppleganger was from the real world and was pissed off she got put into the doppleganger world.

The doppelgangers would've been worthy of sympathy for what they went through if they had simply emerged and formed a human chain. Curious people would realize that they are exact duplicates of existing people.
Instead....they commenced a murder spree and attempted to kill innocent people who had no idea of the conditions they lived in. Misery begetting misery.
The doppelgangers can be understood for wanting to draw attention to their plight but they lost the moral high ground when they chose mass murder.
i think that as "shadows" they mimic the actions but not the thought process, they are opposites. for example, umbrae and zora, one is a sadistic bitch and the other is a caring bitch, i think that since our first thought as civilized baddies is to find a peaceful route, theirs is to find a deathly one. ik that last part isnt exactly the whole truth but i hope it made sense LMAO

Thats the luxury of living a relatively peaceful existence though, we have the option to engage in peaceful protest. If all they knew was violence and felt that their lives were quite literally bound in service to another and that they cant be free unless that person is untethered, then its completely understandable that theyd choose violence. Especially if they know theyre government creations, if they were peaceful the government would just wipe them out and call it some military exercise.

The movie actually ends when Jason realizes that its his mom after she smiles at him. Also the movie has a lot of symbolism in it, with the main point being classism. People on the top live life how they please while people on the bottom live life how they can; and eventually they strive to eat the rich.

You know I watched a series of other UA-cam channels who do the movies in minutes and Mystery recap is my favorite ngl
The best theory I've heard is Jason is also a tether that was swapped with Pluto after something went wrong his magic trick sparkler causing his face to be burnt. Theres few things that give this theory weight.
•At the start of the movie Jason and Adelaide both snap in sync with each other but both snap off beat off
•Jason Finds his magic sparkler that he left a past summer but has no idea how to use it
•He and Adelaide both have the same weird eating disorder
•When the girls on the beach ask if he was building sand castles he says he was building sand tunnel and not castles
•He recognises the doppelganger family "Its US"
•Red doesn't kill when she kidnapped him as she would have gave birth to him
Also don’t forget how it’s the doppelgängers who influence the originals. Once Addy (the doppelgänger) begins dance classes then Red (real Addy) starts to copy her movements in her confinement below ground. That explains how Jason is able to get his “supposed doppelgänger” Pluto to copy his movements and have him walk backwards into the burning car.
I think he was just in touch with his tethered side.

I don't like horror movies so didn't watch it. I get scared too easily and have nightmares. Just getting it explained like this without all the suspense and being drawn into the world, makes it so much better. Didn't get scared at all and now I know what happened. I did wonder if she was switched with the doppelgänger though, that's a predictable twist.
I saw this in the movie house and felt more of a slasher thriller than a horror.
A lot of comedic reliefs from Winston Duke, calling the cops played "fck the police, and the shadows imitating a rollercoaster.

If shadows have to follow the movement of there true copies then 1) how can the dopplegangers even plan or do anything without bumping in to stuff and 2) if addy is really the shadow version, why does the real version have to copy her and her not copy the locked up real version

I believe it was because they were younger and he had a stronger connection to his tether, he was mimicking Jason earlier in the movie in the closet. His tether also seemed more primitive, like the rest of the family but also a younger child that may do things like that in the mirror still.
covinient for the plot, but yes that bothered me half the movie and i am 100% sure that it not onyl didn´t add anything to the movie but even took a lot away from it.
the story would have been just as good without the mirrored movement but it also would have made a lot more sence!

I think the moral of the story is that everybody can be good under proper care and privilege but because their dopplegangers were born and raised in bad conditions they grow up to be bad people. That is why we cannot judge people who have done bad things or who have ended up being bad people because we don't know about the hardships they faced and the lack of care and privilege they never received. This movie shows you that there is a reason why some people resort to crime when they've never received love, compassion, and even privilege.

This is just like one of those crazy stories I used to hear about when I was kid. That everyone has seven doppelganger of them all around the world and out of 7, one them will always try to kill you didn't realize that there is movie just like that. Just much much creepier and scarier.

This is why I'm scared of looking in the mirror for too long when I get up in the night.
A few weeks ago I was laying in bed and saw myself in the mirror and started playing with my feet while looking at myself, and I started to feel a little funny. When I broke my concentration on the mirror to start playing with my dog, the mirror suddenly jolted like someone hit it and my dog got up and looked behind the mirror. 😬 I spend as little time as I can in the mirror now.

that is what happened the only reason the tethered even managed to escape is because they had a human who understood free will. without her they would have continued to copy their original counterparts. But it could also be that red was the only successful clone and actually had the ability to control the original hence why addy felt the need to go into the mirror house.
I'm kind of disappointed because they didn't explore Red's personality more. She had been living on the surface and had been loved. It'd be more interesting if she didn't simply lose empathy and become basically the same as all other tethers (I know she's still different, but she isn't different from them from a psychological level)

I love this movie so much because its shot at my childhood vacation spot minus actually being able to afford a house in the mountains. It definitely adds to the terror due to how Familiar it is
This movie hits home for me because when I was a kid, I remember having a dream I was wandering around my house and I got to the steps and came face to face with my doppelganger. It was creepy because it was actually holding a pair of scissors and was just standing there smiling at me like a creep. I thought nothing of it more than just a nightmare but seeing it being manifested into a movie gave a me a flashback I wish to forget 😭 I swear I'm not joking either this legit happened, mind you I'm 23 now and this happened to me when I was in elementary school. I constantly had weird nightmares growing up which is why I think I stay up late every night out of reflex.
Maybe the director had the same kind of dreams, or knew someone who did. Inspiration for the movie. There are writers who keep a dream journal for story material.
