I was 11 in 1966 and heard these great songs on the radio. Some I still listen to. I feel sorry for the youth today [and for the last 30 years] not having this kind of talent to listen to while growing up.
BEST YEAR of all . Great music, 18 years old, 55 chevy muscle car, first and only tatoo ($17.), graduated high school, first job at Chevy Dealership, bar hopping, driving up to Greenwood Lake, N.Y. for great weekends at several Go Go clubs (mother's, Le Pussycat Lounge) with bunch of friends from Queens N.Y. "How sweet it was". It was great being a teenager in the sixties. I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world,
It was as terrific a year for pop music as any in the fabulous '63-67 peak era that I fondly remember! And it wasn't just The Beatles or Stones that contributed; it was just almost every artist that came on the radio with fantastic songs: Herman's Hermits, and the wonderful one-hit (some silly, but so much fun!) wonders, for '65: Barry McGuire, "Eve of Destruction," and the silly-fun one: Ian Whitcomb. "You Turn Me On." Now for '66, the instrumental fun one: The T-Bones: "No Matter What Shape, Your Stomach's In" (1966) made into a commercial; The Lovin' Spoonful, in the summer: "Summer in the City", The Association, "Cherish" a marvelous love ballad hitting #1 and winding up as the #2 song for the entire 1966, and so many others in that special year!
Now that was a real good year as was the decade of the 60's & this was almost like Pinnacle status with many of them! They can't come close to this level of excellence today & I have many of them in my collection.
Agreed. I was always a fan of the British invasion groups. I just watched a biopic on Tubi about the Hollies. They had more hits after Graham Nash left the band and it bothered him immensely. Well worth watching.
So many different styles of music ~ Motown, R&B/Soul, Beach music (?), pop, folk, movie themes, British invasion ~ I guess some of those hits could be classified as C&W ~ others puzzle me, I guess simply rock & roll and/or easy listening ~ brings back so many memories
This is a TERRIFIC list!!! I remember just about all of these and they brought back so many memories. For instance, I recall hearing: "beauty may only be skin deep, but ugly goes all the way to the bone."
