This is so true. Not just for Asian Culture it's also Hispanic Culture the wide eyes hand motion thing is so condescending you feel like a piece of shit.If u have ever walked into a store and they go "EXUSE me mam hablas English" (in the shittiest fakest accent ever by the way) LIKE BITCH YES THE FUCK I DO SPEAK ENGLISH THANKS I DONT LOOK HANDICAPPED DO I NO THEN UR TONE IS UNESSISARY
Sophia Pagan ikr i know what you feel im asian en i was once in a random store en the same shit what happend by david happend by me to but you know we all used to it
My god I knowwww. I was out with my girl the other night (She's Salvadoran and I'm Asian but I look Hispanic) and a lot of guys come up to us and try to use mispronounced Spanish pick-up lines and speak to us like we can't speak English. Then we reply in perfect English, "We were born here and speak English. Bitch."
IKR LIKE I SPEAK A DIFFRENT LANGUAGE AND MY FRIENDS SAY THAT TO OTHER PEOPLE BEFORE I TALK TO THESE PEOPLE AND THEN THEY MAKE THESE HAND MOTIONS AND WHEN THEY FIGURE OUT SPEAK FLUENTLY WITH NO ACCENT AND TELL THEM THEY AFFENDED ME THEY SAY IM TOO EMOTIONAL
I clicked this video not knowing what to expect & then got hit by a 12min emotional rollercoaster because it was so bloody real. And you're right, no one on UA-cam talks about this stuff anymore but I'm so happy you shared this!
This hits home except it was me on the sales side and the customer saying and doing that shit to me. Because of my job I'd get fired for defending myself and 'causing a scene'. But I get customers doing the hand gestures all the time and I just gotta take it. They say stuff like "You give bag. Me give cash" like...bitch I know wtf you're saying just speak normally without the hand gestures and then get all surprised because I speak english with your native accent. Or the "Why'd you come to Australia? Whats wrong with your country?", "I was born and raised here, this is my country, and even if I wasnt, the way you are speaking to me is a bit uncalled for", "oh haha sorry you just dont look Australian"....like wow... ugghhh makes my blood boil wish I could just say how I really feel -.-
+Yusuf Khan I'm so sorry for the way that people have treated you. I was a shy girl back in middle school, and people thought I didn't know English because I didn't talk to them, but I have higher grades than them in English. Point is, never let other people affect you. If your from Pakistan, be proud to be from Pakistan. Never let anyone tell you anything other than that. Never let others bring you down for something you can't control such as race, sex, or religion. Don't use your fist, use your knowledge and grades (such as having A's in all subject or become someone big in the real world) to win. Be proud of who you are.
this hit home so much, I'm an emigrant and becasue of that we didn't have a lot (if any) money in the first 5 years or so og being in this country espically since we were paying for my brothers med school fees without him being able to take out student loans, but now our situation is SOO much better because my parents work for damn hard, they work there ass off EVERY SINGLE DAY so their children have the best opportunity and the best possible education and lifestyle. but its just so upsetting thinking back on the first few years because both my parents were highly respected university professors back home yet now they were working 12+ hour shifts in our shop to make ends meet and pay our bills and uni fees for over £35000 every year. They work so hard and still the audacity of some people to speak to them like they are below them, espically to my mum who is the hardest working women I have ever known , and she was always treated with condescending looks because her English wasn't the best. it makes me wish that I was older than and was able to stand up for them. though now its those same people that are jealous as all hell because we used to live on the smallest house on their street but now we're in a big house and an expensive car because my parents worked hard for everything they have but I guess some people are just small minded and weather your at the bottom for the top they will still hate on you...
What's funny is I a white woman naturally born USA citizen actually get worried about upsetting or coming off as stupid to those who don't really speak English. I just try my best at work to help them get what they need. :) I've had good experiences thus far
not just asians/immigrants as a black person trust me i feel this way and not just when dealing with sales, I can't go to the mall,..... hell any social area without feeling peoples projections of my value being lesser than them for what ever preconceived notion and merit system they have in their minds. I think david hit home for a bigger community than he thinks.
Michael Alexander yo man i understand that. i've never felt like that/been in that situation but damn, that's fucked. black individuals are people too, like shit were all human so what's the point in making someone feel like shit just because they were born. nobody can choose their fucking skin color. ugh really makes me pissed.
Omg dude! I'm Mexican and I totally get it! Everything especially the look. I'm a 14 year old and I've experienced a lot of shit. Once I was at Walmart with my mom right, and my mom turns and tells me "hey can you go get some sour cream I forgot it." And keep in mind we were about to check out. Also keep in mind it's like 8-9 am so of course I'm going to be in sweats at Walmart. Anyways while I was in the cream section of the store looking for the brand my mom usually gets a lady come from behind me and says "do you need some money? Do u understand what I'm saying?" With that exact same hand gestures and wide eyed. I turn and say " no miss I'm a citizen here and speak fluent English and Spanish. It's 8 in the fucking mourning of course I'm not dressed to come to Walmart. I get that you may have came up to me with good intentions but please don't do that ever again to anyone unless there actually asking for the money." But omg thank goodness my parents raised me not to cause a scene
Seen the look. Hate the look. Makes me want to pull a Pretty Woman EVERY TIME..... still hoping to do that with my former accountant and the "nice" ladies at the Louis Vuitton store *rolling eyes*
Being a white woman, I've never had to experience that sort of vile disrespect, but I've seen it. I remember the time I took my Latina friend (military spouse/just moved) to our local Walmart. She entered before me/was stopped by the time I came up. The employee demanded he check her bag (nevermind just entering)/when I asked him if this was a new policy, he lied/said they'd been checking for a year. I went off on him, as I'd gone into that store wearing giant hoodies/jackets/with a backpack (winters are cold), had even been there the previous night like that, and was NEVER stopped. My friend was well-dressed/had a nice purse/otherwise looked way less suspect than I, so we knew what it was. When I started yelling at the guy, he stuttered/apologized/quickly let us on our way. Otherwise, I've had other white people make racist comments around me, thinking I'm "safe"/expecting me to agree (I make it very clear that I don't). Some of my race are shit, and I'm deeply sorry.
I'm Mexican and I know what youre talking about. can't go to a burebarry store without them thinking I can't buy there shit. I work I have money to spend .
Thank fucking you. I've seen many times where they treated my parents as if they're stupid or pure idiots and shit. They simply don't speak the language that well and don't get me wrong, they try fucking hard. But many act as if they don't even try to adjust. And there have been many times where people just assume that I don't speak dutch and start speaking english to me with a very dramatic motions, then I just say fuck it and answer everything in dutch.
Always happens to my parents to, they get treated like that all the time, when people see they make 500000 a year they become jealousy and say fucking immigrants, well gues what smartest people on earth are from Iran, China, Japan, etc. and without us you Americans wouldn't even have a Car
When I was 8, I went with my mom and grandma to go get a new car at a Lexus dealership and the same thing happened to my grandma. She is straight from Korea, but my mom and I were born and raised in Hawai'i. 3 workers wouldn't help her, but one nice man did and so we paid the down payment in cash and my mom gave him a $1500 tip. Then the other workers came in trying to help my grandma and she literally told them to "Fuck off and learn how to be respectful to others. Maybe your parents didn't raise you well or you are just terrible on your own but you need to learn how to treat others." and that stuck with me.
You make all these valid points and keep it straight up honest but not rude, I love how you handled the situation, it definitely gives younger people/everyone a good idea of how to confront blatant rudeness by employees.
You know it's sad to me (and probably every other immigrant who's first language is not English and not white) that I have to try to have the most "American" accent to be treated with some kind of respect or else they'll think I'm bad at English. No joke, I was returning clothes and I misheard the sales lady and I said "Excuse me? Could you repeat that?" She sighed and rolled her eyes and then repeated it to me slower with big eyes and a weird tone. I got so fucking pissed that I grabbed my shit and went to a different associate. Just because I'm Asian, don't assume I don't understand English when I misheard you.
I hope you were alright. I despite people like that. Like you "the sales person" only know one language and you can't even speak it well, I "everyone else" speaks two or more.
i had to rewatch this video because of the sheer intensity and raw emotion that david has. he rarely blows up in front of a camera, well he does, but almost never this seriously, and for anyone who's lived in the same situation as him, he's put into words the exact emotions that asian immigrants want to express. so thanks, david, for using this platform to tell others about your experiences and speaking for those of us that can't express ourselves to a larger audience
This happened to my dad too. Went to a Mercedes dealership. He owns a fabrication company and he was just coming from work and wearing work boots and jeans. And we're Asian so that says it all. The sales person didn't even give him and my mom a good car to try out. It was dirty, smelly, and old. My dad knew by the end that he wasn't going to buy from the dealership because they were being assholes to him but thought he'd fuck with them and said at the end, "Yeah, I was thinking of getting 5 or 6 cars for my company but I see your cars aren't that nice." LOL the guy PERKED UP and was like "Oh no no lemme show you some better cars!!" But my dads already saying no, thanks see ya motherfuckers!!! HAHAHAHA But he really WAS going in to look for a couple of cars for his company. So don't judge people by what they look like. You NEVER KNOW. I admire what David did so much. And so glad that asshole got called out
From a 16 year old Hispanic kid that's poor, this video hit me deep down in the heart because I can relate so much to it. That being said, thanks David.
What's the dealership name and in what county so we can all avoid it like the plague. I don't want to waste my time nor my friends if were going to be treated that way.
I am Rwandese and my parent and I get the same shit every day especially in high school certain teachers looked down on me because of my skin color, and name thinking that I don't speak English just because they heard my moms or dads accent and it really pisses me off when I hear people say negative things like that about the people you love and care about. Some times I just tell them off and instead of saying sorry the first thing they say is how come your English is more American 😠 like what I don't understand but you know stay positive and move on man life is to short to stay mad about useless people.
✊ i agree 100% man and im a white middle class male and ik i didnt have to deal with immigrant struggles ( idk if youre an immagrant, idk your story haha) but i grew up with canned pares and tomato juice thats it. I busted my ass for years and i get that look all the time. and when you prove some stupid ignorant bitch wrong its the best feeling
Went through the exact same thing at an Audi dealership... except the guy was trying to directly imply that I didn't have enough money. He asked if I even knew how expensive the cars were and said that I'd have to do a credit check BEFORE a test drive. WTF?! Why would I not know how much their cars are worth?! CREDIT CHECK BEFORE A TEST DRIVE?!?!?! Bitch, I can buy that Audi with cash and in one payment... but it's because I worked so damn hard to get to where I am today. I also grew up poor and it does get annoying when I'm judged like this. I dress nice. I'm polite to people I don't know (and that includes salesmen). What else is there about me to judge?
this kind of shit makes my blood boil so much. What's the point of working hard and trying to be the better person if all you get out of it is MAD disrespect from people who DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU. Seen this kind of shit in dress shops way too much. Just 'cause I don't have platinum blonde hair or carryin a Prada bag or whatever doesn't mean I'm just there to "take up space". The pursed lips and eye rolls are REAL. And what REALLY ticks me off is when people start speaking LOUDER AND SLOWER because OBVIOUSLY that's the ONLY WAY for minorites to understand english. AUGH. smh.
I'm Black, Muslim and a woman so the world is not always on my side but what makes us such amazing human beings is that we can relate to each other. I wouldn't be able to empathize with david l if i didn't go through similar stuff. btw I absolutely love David XD
"I worked hard to earn my shit, and I will be respected as such." Damn David, you're inspirational brother, keep doing you man. You embody everyone that came from humble beginnings and hope to one day be fortunate enough to provide for those who provided for you like, your family. I'm definitely not your biggest fan or I haven't followed you since day one, but I have so much respect for who you are as a person and your drive man. Keep on your path, you are one of so many people that put a fellow immigrant like me, born out of the state, to pave my own path of success. Keep doing you man, still more big things to come for you!
Thank you for sharing this with us. Personal and intimate stuff. Thank you for your hard work and sticking with uploading videos. Your videos and actually how you deliver your message always speaks to my core. You deserve all the nice things! Stay healthy and be happy doing stuff that makes you happy!
"[David] wasn't suppose to make it past 25, jokes on you [he] still alive" and making us laugh our ass off all the time and motivating the shit out of us. I've felt that pain before, brother. Whenever I'm at a nicer resto, a name brand store, or hell even at department stores, without fail I, especially with my parents, get treated like we're children and salespeople talk to use like we don't understand a single fucking word they're saying. It's frustrating and sad that I've gotten used to it and that in today's society such things still happen.
PREACH!!💙💙😢 I've gone through this so many times I'm so happy that you're speaking up about this, I've cried and have been made to feel unwanted and disrespected in similar situations Thank You! again saying what you mean and not hiding who you are there are many people in your profession who aren't real ,I respect you for your truthfulness and sincerity
YESSS DAVID! YEESSSS. Oh my god, YES! I know where you're coming from, my parents went through the same struggle that most foreign parents go trough to do right by their kids.I'll be damned if I let anyone disrespect another human being because they think their position or nationality gives them a measure of superiority. It's the sickest type of prejudice.
So fucking true David. It often happens to me the other way arround. At work I'm one of the youngest, I got tattoos and piercings. Funny thing is I gave the formation to the older people working at my place and clients often look at me like I'm a piece of shit that doesn't know anything. The face they make when my co-workers come to me to ask me how to help them very same clients who gave me such a mean look is priceless.. Continue the good work man. Love your videos.
Awh man. David got so emotional on this one. Made me teary eyed. I've been through the same thing as a British Bengali. People assume you're a freshie or think you're straight from India or something and speak to you condescendingly. Makes you wonder how it'd feel like having White Privilege.
that was deep.. I think I'm at that point myself.. being a minority in the south, is keeping your guard up from those types of people.. I am proud of you David!👏
Your videos are always great and real. And I love that you are so real. Thank you for being a voice for people that still have trouble speaking up for themselves. Me being one of them. I wish I was outspoken as you. I applaud you on everything you've done, came from, and where you are now. You deserve that greatness! Keep doing you David! ❤
I am really happy that you called him out on this. Many people, including me most of the time, are just so stunned in these situations that we lose our speech, and then afterwards feel frustrated because that dude certainly deserved all you gave him. But generally, if you want to buy something expensive, just put on a suit and everyone will love you. It might not be "honest", and it should not work that way, but does and it's a simple way to make your life easier. :o)
i felt like I was there .. huge respect my man .. Great mentally.. Tough and soft ;) you r the type of a friend I like to have . one more thing the door in the background is distracting
WORD. Thank you for speaking up!!! This happens way too many times and absolutely appreciate you breakin' it down in this vid. #staytruetoyou #holdyoheadhigh
This is pretty much like those "MAC bad experience" videos. It's so satisfying when people tell horrible workers off, like that guy probably didn't expect you to say shit to him because he probably thinks Asians wouldn't say shit.
I love how you told him how you felt! So many times, we (people) allow others to treat us like crap and have nothing to show for it; we stand silently, wait for it to be over, and complain about it to our friends later. Calmly explaining one's view at THAT MOMENT is really the only thing that lets the perpetrator know that they are being inappropriate. Dope.
This is so relatable and finally someone has said it. Thank you David. My family and I are immigrants as well. The first years of our arrival were tough. We know no one and we literally have to start in the bottom. My parents have to work full time and study at the same time to earn the credits from the Philippines while sending me and my brother to school. We struggled a lot but we worked twice as hard to get to where we are now. We encountered instances where we heard people commenting about how immigrants steal jobs and all the money. But then my father will always say that it is because we experienced how it is to be poor. We just dont sit around and act like were too good for the world and wait for opportunities to be given to us and that is why we deserve all that we earned. That condescending looks and tones happened to us more often than you think that we learned how to brush it off and move forward. Keep hustlin, fellow immigrants :D
It made me cry ... David So im so happy you spoke of this. I have so much more respect towards you. This is what people who have such a large following should acknowledged and speak up about .Happens why to much for it to ever be okay.
You give me so much hope David. Hope that maybe I won't end up a bum. Hope that I will never be wanting basic needs. I never look at other people like they don't deserve what they've worked for.
But how did the sales associate not know you spoke english when you said, "hey man, how you doin...?" Sales associate is disrespectful, rude, and an idiot.
David I appreciate your honesty. It's good to hear I'm not alone in these feelings and experience. Thanks for putting a voice to something that often goes unheard.
I've gone to a dealer before and this happened to me. Not only did they whisper that i probably didn't speak English but because I was young I was only going fucking around in the store. I'm hispanic and at the time I was 19 but I had started working at a young age to help my family and had 8000 in pocket to out down then and there. I had went alone and had question because this would be my first car that I would own that wasn't a hand me down not only did they ignore me but were talking shit like I couldn't hear them. It's so shitty that this crap still happens! This is why I love you David always speaking your mind. I love you and don't stop doing what you do.
What I wrote I felt was too long, basically I understand where you're coming from David and I applaud your level headed behavior up to that final point. Frankly I would have snapped at the first eye roll.
Yo I felt this to my core. Going into a store and getting followed around or someone ignoring your presence is absolutely fucked up. It's almost as if you just disregard our humanity and only see a caricature of stereotypes.
David, this really resonated with me. Even as a Bengali-American in New York City, who loves, lives, and breathes America, and one who speaks English better than most, I always feel what you felt. People look at me walking past them and I can hear them say "Now there are Fuckin A-Rabs here?" Its terrible. Even with my girlfriend, all her friends, family, and even the employees in stores I went to with her to get her a gift gave me that look at first. That look that "What is someone like him doing with a girl like her?" and when I was looking around the clerks would talk to her until I stepped in front to demand respect through body language. I have no pity for people like that. If I went through what you went through I would have damn well made a big deal about it with his superiors. This shit gotta stop.
Mad respect to you for speaking up 👏🏼👌🏼

Then the other workers came in trying to help my grandma and she literally told them to "Fuck off and learn how to be respectful to others. Maybe your parents didn't raise you well or you are just terrible on your own but you need to learn how to treat others." and that stuck with me.
From 10:54 to 11:14, I thought you were going to start crying :(
You do you, David! I'm sure we are so proud of you for putting that guy in his place!
This is why I love you David!! Tell him the fuck off.
I vent out all my anger through David
Like you "the sales person" only know one language and you can't even speak it well, I "everyone else" speaks two or more.
kslee0920 bro that happened to my mom and I was so pissed
i had to rewatch this video because of the sheer intensity and raw emotion that david has. he rarely blows up in front of a camera, well he does, but almost never this seriously, and for anyone who's lived in the same situation as him, he's put into words the exact emotions that asian immigrants want to express.
so thanks, david, for using this platform to tell others about your experiences and speaking for those of us that can't express ourselves to a larger audience
+Jess Liu Amen.
Preach David! Some people just aren't raise right unfortunately. #equality
So, what's his name, David? Let's pull up on this fool 😂
David is the best! This rant was great.
HAHAHAHA
But he really WAS going in to look for a couple of cars for his company. So don't judge people by what they look like. You NEVER KNOW.
I admire what David did so much. And so glad that asshole got called out
So much respect for you David, thank you for standing up for all of those who are discriminated against :)
Damn, i'm so happy you spoke up for yourself! Always supporting you for your incredible work!
From the 9-11 minute mark, I was close to crying. That was passionate and emotional.
+Asher Itty dude, same.
You're so right. I have so much respect for you! 💕Stay strong.
From a 16 year old Hispanic kid that's poor, this video hit me deep down in the heart because I can relate so much to it. That being said, thanks David.
So glad you spoke up about this issue David. Totally correct that shit like this slides by too often
What's the dealership name and in what county so we can all avoid it like the plague. I don't want to waste my time nor my friends if were going to be treated that way.
Can't say it would be considered slander
I got emotional thinking of all the times this has happened to my parents.
preach it honey
+Suzy Martinez
I like the way he say, "FUCK YOU!" He said that like it came from the bottom of his soul. I feel your pain, just on a different plain.
Mexican American here. I know the struggle David. Proving those people wrong is the best feeling. I spit on them from above.
+Jervy Hou Oh hey its Jervy! Just checked out your new cover of "No", its really good. :)
+DeanWuMusic Thanks :)! I was pretty excited about putting that one out.
this kind of shit makes my blood boil so much. AUGH. smh.
This video is real as fuck.
David the realest youtuber to ever hit the Internet.
Damn David really went off on this one. This is the realest shit I've heard in a while
Thank you for sharing this with us.
THIS is where the story begins *awkward wink*
😂😂
+Mike Toe lol i thought he was channeling his Kpop roots ... *wink at the people* and ... start
This man never finished that series too XD
+Mike Toe facebook.com/InclusionEcuador/posts/1070771326295630
KIEN tbh that wink made me blush
PREACH!!💙💙😢 I've gone through this so many times I'm so happy that you're speaking up about this, I've cried and have been made to feel unwanted and disrespected in similar situations Thank You! again saying what you mean and not hiding who you are there are many people in your profession who aren't real ,I respect you for your truthfulness and sincerity
Oh hell no. David I'm glad you spoke up. I'm sure he felt stupid afterwards.
When people piss me off, I just marathon his videos and I'm good.
Awh man. David got so emotional on this one. Made me teary eyed. I've been through the same thing as a British Bengali. People assume you're a freshie or think you're straight from India or something and speak to you condescendingly. Makes you wonder how it'd feel like having White Privilege.
+OfficialKingKhanAbz I live in So Cal so they just think i'm Mexican...
David getting hella real with us at 8:36 respect man, keep on your grind
you can tell he cut off the parts where he cried .. i feel you man this shit ain't easy
that was deep..
this was for sure the realest shit i have ever heard
You are so fucking real David, you are one of my idols, I look up to you and you are one of the best UA-camrs out there.
You could always call his higher ups and make a complaint, nobody deserves to be treated like that. Straight up disrespectful.
i felt like I was there .. huge respect my man
David for President 2016
Well shit.
This whole video i was doing that "oh damn" back up from my computer screen.
Fuck em up david, rant of the elders is super effective!
It's heartbreaking to hear that some people are heartless enough to treat someone else so poorly because of the way they look. Preach it
one of the realist youtubers
Damn got me teary eyed at 10:57 David looked kinda teary eyed too
It made me cry ... David So im so happy you spoke of this. I have so much more respect towards you. This is what people who have such a large following should acknowledged and speak up about .Happens why to much for it to ever be okay.
Preach man. You are amazing.
This was the reason why I subscribe to davidso xD Always so real
I've shared this video a lot over the last 2 days. This one really hit home for me and I'm glad you spoke up on it. Great video David!
0:00 Hopsin- No Words
FUCK. YES. Thank you David! You have no idea how happy this video made me.
You give me so much hope David. Hope that maybe I won't end up a bum. Hope that I will never be wanting basic needs. I never look at other people like they don't deserve what they've worked for.
i need ur confidence
Damn.. that shit was too real, I feel you
This one got me real emotional. Stoked about how far you've come and the work you've put in to get there.
But how did the sales associate not know you spoke english when you said, "hey man, how you doin...?" Sales associate is disrespectful, rude, and an idiot.
+Jennie Deng
I hate how Americans think yelling at you in their language will help you understand them better. I'm like "-_-"
Respect. You get all of my mother fucking respect. 👌🏻
KatTheKiller I really like your picture
David I appreciate your honesty. It's good to hear I'm not alone in these feelings and experience. Thanks for putting a voice to something that often goes unheard.
I really like david's jackets from nike. Can't get my eyes of them.
+Caro Honest i think its the nike windrunner if you or anybody else wanted to know
John Doe thanks, good to know.
I have a different variation of the jacket and its so fresh and sexy
+Caro Honest raincoat and hat inside the room xD must be very cold and rainy
Slashplite true
I hope that person watches this video.
It's sad to ask for the respect that one should give to you as a human being in general.
Yo I felt this to my core. Going into a store and getting followed around or someone ignoring your presence is absolutely fucked up. It's almost as if you just disregard our humanity and only see a caricature of stereotypes.
David looking good man I can see the workouts have been working 👌🏽good shit man
I want to give David a hug, he's so mad in this video:(
it's okay David. I feel ya. and it usually happens to my elder folks in front of me. I flip shit when it happens too
I don't think it matters what you have or haven't been through, no one deserves to be treated that way. Human Decency is in short supply these days.
David is my spirit animal. ermahged
PREEEEEEEAAACHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I NOMINATE DAVID FOR PRESIDENT!
