    Bloke has again given in to peer pressure and will take a Chinesium AK, aka a Chinese Type 56S in the OG dropped butt configuration, to ‪@PolenarTactical‬ 's Lynx Brutality 2024 #LynxBrutality2024
    To keep up with Ian of ‪@ForgottenWeapons‬ and Ziga of Ponenar, he needs some upgrades. But what's the order of preference? And what are the options for mounting an optic to an AK?
    This is the Safe For UA-cam version. There's a version showing the mods on Playeur and on the Weapons and War App. Playeur is here: playeur.com/v/a7sNYI_2TSe

    Definitely would love a "How to Spot a Type 56 Chinese AK" sort of video. And as a fellow person with engineering training, the liberal use of cyanoacrylate adhesive is definitely approved (having an aerospace background does mean knowing how to glue things together, basically, since that's literally how composite parts are made).
    An aside: it seems that being able to rebuild your shooting position consistently is an underrated skill. And definitely something important in practical shooting.
    Also, interspersing some Monty Python is brilliant. I assume we here on UA-cam got the same amount of runtime as the ones in Playeur and the app.

      The milled construction, wooden pistol grip, contourless handguard, hooded front sight and missing slant break usually give them away.

      Offset front rivets are usually a dead giveaway. I think only Albania does the same, but those are direct copies of, and even sometimes rumored to be Chinese made themselves.

      @@G-Mastah-FashType 56 are stamped, not milled. Learn the rivet pattern, it's the easiest giveaway. Norinco makes some versions that don't have hooded front sights, and have various other changes to make them look like Russian variants ( soviet, 103s, 104s). But the rivet pattern is always Type 56.

    Those Norinco/SDM/Nedi AKs are everywhere in Europe - they're by far the cheapest military-type rifles here. And they're quality guns by now, with all the important parts properly forged and hardened, chrome-lined barrels, and everything reasonably straight. I was able to get 10cm groups at 100m with my SDM with 12.5" barrel and barnaul ammo.

    (switched over to Playeur to catch missing parts of the video) Dang, that sucks that you had to Dremel your rear sight pin holes! I'm assuming that the original leaf spring and rear sight pin would NOT work with that new mount? I often wonder about the idea of putting a red-dot on an SKS and that rear sight replacement way may be the way to go. Also, your video was entertaining and informative. Thank you!

    Funny how once you see a thing you can't unsee it. I watched Ian's Electrolux-Charlton video and I keep seeing the parallels between it and the AK, different starting point and execution of the idea but very similar in outcomes, just the Electrolux is Lee-enfield conversion with a side mounted piston and separate return spring set up vs the AK top mount piston and internal return spring on a ground up new design/ redesign of the locking mechanism of the AS-44 ( yes I'm saying that ).

    Once its bolted in place I would be tempted to get the gas torch out and braze it on as well as its pretty permenant yet at the same time it can always be de-brazed later. The only other solution I have seen to this is a mount that cantilevered off the stock so you run a pistol red dot in the rear appature position.

    The ultimak gas tube rail is good to go. I've been running them on a few of my rifles for over 15 years. THey have all been thru multiple 2 to 3 day course and a few competitions. While they do get hot, not one optic has failed or lost zero. This includes all iterations of aimpoints and few eotechs. To deal with the heat, I run an offset flashlight mount and surefire light off the left side that I rest my hand on.

    • @SAWgunnerSWE
      @SAWgunnerSWE 11 днів тому

      Same experiece here. I’ve used the Ultimak on my Saiga MK 762/Ak104 with an Aimpoint without issues. It does bolt to the barrel and not just as a gas cylinder. And weight is not an issue and I think it balances nicely.

    All that headache, because Soviets didn't liked initial closed top, 1946 AK prototype...
    Klashnikov could address issues by moving buttstok onto the back of the reciever, already making it sidefolder on vertical hinge, making a slot in bolt carrier for knuckle on the back end of piston rod, thus turning it from short stroke into long stroke piston action, used one integrated safety/fire mode switch, rock'n'lock magazines. And, as an option on top of all that, slapped the PU scope onto the reciever top. Didn't happend, but it's quite interesting "what if" scenario.
