Amazing how this video came up, as I am currently questioning God about the suffering of a dear one and myself. Why is this happening to me yet all those who to do never go through this much pain. I always know we go through suffering in life, carrying our crossed but I needed that reminder, hope, and faith. Thank you Fr Rob.

Thank you, Father. It took me a long time to get a handle on suffering...I'm 55, and I finally figured out how to offer to bear it with love, and to look at it in every way that you spoke of here. I suppose everyone has to go through their own journey to figure out how to do that -- how blest are those who figure it out sooner! I was interpreting "offer it up" as "Hey, take this" ... Nope. That's not it. People would say they offered up their suffering and they hardly noticed the pain any more. I couldn't figure out why that wasn't working for me. Other people would say they offered it up for a specific intention, so I tried making deals with God - "I'll go through this if it saves a child from being abused." It doesn't work that way, either (and anyway, how could I know if a child was not being abused thanks to my suffering?). I was finally humiliated enough, humbled enough, to look at my crucifix and say, "You did this for me. It's more than I deserve. I want to console You by suffering Your pains on behalf of the Holy Souls." Immediately the pain went away. The thing is, I had to be humble enough to really mean it, and not to just try to get out of the pain. I had to bear it with love, as our perfect example did. You are so blessed to understand that at a young age, Father. I wish I would have had your guidance when I was young, but I'm glad to have it now. Thank you.

Why does God allow suffering? No one knows . Religious folks seem to have all the silly answers and it inspires their flock of sheep.
