  • English House Sparrow (HOSP) and European Starling (EUST) are both non-native and invasive species to North America. Because they pose a threat to our cavity-nesting birds (purple martins, bluebirds, tree swallows, tufted titmice, woodpeckers, etc.), their ability to nest & multiply must be managed.
This Zoom presentation was hosted by Kathy Freeze and Courtney Rousseau of the Purple Martin Fanatics & North Carolina Purple Martin Society Facebook Groups.

I remember in 1994, I had my first bluebird nest with 5 eggs, I didn't know the HOSP back then but they were building a nest 50ft from BB, I pulled their nest only to come home from work the next day to see they took over the BB house and threw out the eggs, that's called HOSP. Rampage, evening I placed a ST-1 trap on the house with bread, caught the male next morning, I rang his neck completely off,I was so pissed, then the BB came back and nest. They're an invading non invasive species that needs to be eliminated
