High Fuel, Low Paying Freight. They're Robbing Us Blind |

  • This video is about how high fuel and low paying freight is hurting the trucking industry. Not to mention shippers, brokers and agents are robbing us blind. It's all about supply and demand. Shippers know freight have to move in order to get to the receiver or the consignee.
They're customer paid for this product. Where is the money. Brokers and agents are skimming so much off the top and making us believe it's the shippers who aren't paying.
More videos like this to follow.

Fuel prices aren't causing lower rates. It's the low amount of freight available. When there were enough loads for every driver rates were good. Fewer loads brokers know they don't have to pay top dollar...somebody will get desperate enough to haul cheap. It's hurting us all.

We all know about that, I think people going crazy, is accept any offer load for cheap price, brokers is offering load off 1500 miles for $1500 and people taking it, just for fuel is cost now 0.95 a mile!

What up! I went to Fontana Roadmaster too. My broker friend told me that ALL brokers banded together to bring down the rates 25%, to have better leverage against drivers that were going to demand fuel surcharge. That tells me they have more wiggle room than before, and drivers better grow some negotiating skills quick. I wish drivers could come together to counter something like that. If we could come together, we can make a lot of things happen, and many things, i.e. bad brokers, disappear. Stay resilient and blessed brother.

Drivers have created most of our problems. Lets start with no parking. If we didn't have drivers who left their trash and their pee bottles everywhere, people would be more welcoming to us parking for the night. Next is cheap freight. Of course there are scam artists who will take advantage. But there is always drivers who will take the cheap freight, keeping the rate on the lanes low. We just have too many bad drivers out here. Who care nothing about anyone but themselves. There used to be a brotherhood, but that is long gone. There's not many of us old timers out here anymore. I used to really enjoy driving but it's becoming more like a job.

Bad part about is that all the equipment they’re selling and financing at those prices will drop significantly in the coming months. Intelligent trucking owners as well as companies see this trend and would rather that equipment sit than to get into more debit. Furthermore, they’ll only be hurting themselves in the long run the longer that equipment sits because the older that trailer and or truck is the less you can sell it for lol. As far as the brokers- the government or BBB really needs to come in somehow and regulate these fools. If I didn’t have the accounts that I have I’d be in a f’d up situation. I do look at the board from time to time and $600 from ATL/ SAV ain’t going on my truck lol. If you’re going to buy a equipment- hold off, because the fool that spent $80k- 90k for a 2016 Wabash trailer will be bringing it back cause he can’t afford it.

Ok drivers what do you want to do about things? We can be upset about the speed regulation mandate going around, DOT regulations, E-Logs, soaring fuel prices, lumpers, wait times, truck maintenance prices, the list can go on forever. It all comes down to one question. Are we making it worth it? Stick with me here.
It’s amazing how some drivers will take a stand against something that touches their hearts but there’s never anything, no matter how devastating, to move their brains. Case in point, drivers took a stand against a state’s government to overthrow a ridiculous prison sentence which was imposed on a fellow driver. Within a week of extreme protest in the form of a boycott by a large enough assembly of drivers with their parked equipment, that state’s government was forced to reassess said prison sentence and a favorable resolve was reached. Now let’s reevaluate that, let it crystallize in your mind. That state’s GOVERNMENT was FORCED, it was not a negotiation. A government is an organized system, with rules and regulations, laws backed by signatures and votes, they don’t as they say “make this shit up as they go.” At the drop of a hat enough like-minded drivers created a system as well, they uniformly lobbied for a response. I say a response because at that time none of the drivers had any idea weather that sort of resistance would even work, yet they went all in assuming all risks. All they did was sit and wait, simple. They demonstrated for a just cause, a cause that at the end of it all they merely reassumed they’re post neither wealthier nor with long term personal gain. Keep in mind that this was done by both owner/operators on their equipment and company drivers on equipment that didn’t even belong to them, and we can go on for days about the freight that was involved, but in the end if that wasn’t the biggest way to show who called the shots, who works for who, then I don’t know what is. I for one am proud of those fellow drivers, thank you. Now if you have read this far into the comment then you have reached the good part. This is for you, yes you, personally. If hundreds of drivers can do that for one person whom they don’t know, why can’t we help ourselves for something that personally affects every single one of us? Let’s take that very same predicament, compare our own predicaments against it and then ask ourselves why for some strange reason we choose to handicap ourselves as a whole. We can talk about fuel prices, but there’s an overshadowing issue that if conquered will also resolve the fuel issue as a by product. When it comes to freight rate, why does it always come down to desperation? Some people might say that in Colorado freight was held hostage to move the government so to speak, however this is not the case here. It’s not a case of “give us what we want or else.” This is a business, and although we have some less than worthy staff members behind the wheel, for the most part we are still professionals. We are selling something. Something which although non tangible, it can be given value using tangible costs of operation plus your time and effort. Why would you settle by taking freight that does not exceed, and in some cases comes up short of operating cost? Are you that worthless? As offensive as that may sound I ask that because that’s the value you place on yourself by doing so. You’re the reason shark brokers exist. Remember, who works for who? Two dollars a mile in today’s market is an insult. Yet someone always takes it because it’s better than nothing. There’s our handicap. We are the problem. We forget that we can FORCE brokers to reassess their rate for a favorable resolve. A broker is a NON organized system, with their own rules or regulations, however only backed by OUR individual signatures and votes in the form of acceptance. They do make up shit as they go. Why won’t we rise against THAT loosely knit system? How can we collectively not be against such a profound devaluation of today’s professional truck driver? Why are we fearful to assume all risks? Is this cause not just enough? We’ve seen it work before! Politely ask for a good rate, not a decent rate, not an ok rate, a GOOD rate. We’re not holding anything for ransom here, we’re merely stating that we will sit and wait. Simple. Just imagine how many issues will by default be less of a problem. The price of fuel won’t matter because the rate was good, wait times will feel more tolerable because the rate was good, hours of service won’t matter because the rate was good, and if the speed mandate goes through it won’t matter because the rates will be good, so on and so forth. If you haven’t noticed, battling all other issues only fix that one issue. Why do that? It’s time you raised the price of your worth! Everything else is getting more expensive, why shouldn’t we be more expensive? In nature sharks must keep moving or they will die. Keep the freight sharks from moving their freight and they too will die. It won’t be easy but if we pull it off we will have created better times for all of us. All other good things will follow.

Well written, you sound like a leader. If drivers decided to shut this shit down and 4 wheelers joined to strike for one week and very little fuel was purchased you watch how fast this shit would change. Just like if the 43% who actually paid taxes did not write a check watch how fast this sht would change. I wrote a check this year for $54,000 to the federal government. Yes, I do well but I don’t want my money going to handouts and building bombs. I want it going to help homeless vets and teaching inner city at risk kids a trade. But I do not get a day which is bullshit because I am a smart profitable business owner. These is elites are elites because we are tolerant of this sht. I retired early this year and have moved out of the country because I am disgusted with America and the sheep that occupy it. Damn shame because I was a Patriot. I have 6 sons. A few things.
I just stumbled on your channel. I like some of the things you are saying (not like some of these drivers out there). Seems like you have some real world good advise. Here's my 2 cents from someone with over 30 years in the game.
Trucking is cyclical. It's easy... Look it up. The normal cycle takes 36 to 48 months to turn. We were in a trucker positive position for way longer than normal this time. Now it's turned and the turn was quick which seems to have caught more folks off guard. This is the time that freight rates should be better and not going down. Panic sets in and you have what we are seeing now.
Thought 2. Lease Ops is modern day share cropping. You have none of the freedom that true owner operators have because that truck lease has you held on to that company. Leave and they ruin your credit. Sure, you may get into a truck with less $, but you have all the exposure of the OO without the ability to change companies. Company drivers get a steady check, but you have less freedom on when and where you run. Benefit is that when that truck breaks down... They give you the keys to the next one and you keep earning and don't have to worry about how to pay for that $20k onebox.
Final thought. I respectfully disagree with you about the weight deal. If the load is posted at 16k and they try to load 40... Yea that's foul. But if a company is posting loads at 43k to maximize their dollar so be it. Figure out the extra fuel cost before you take it. If you want to haul price per pound go LTL. I don't think it's fair to complain about a shipper wanting to fill the truck they are paying for. Again, assuming they post that upfront. In your example it appears that they were by "upping the rate a little".

*Warning* this PSA is for all who have an open mind. In case you're not aware, we are at the mercy of merchants and their parasitcal henchmen ie; (Brokers, shippers, dealerships, fuel stations, leasing agents etc.) While everyone is wondering why the fuel prices are high and freight is at an all time low the obvious reason has gone without detection. "PEOPLE" this is not hyperinflation. Listen and listen good, "the almighty dollar is crashing". If you do not know this by now let me help you, It is already too late and contrary to popular belief America is on the brink of total collapse!!!! All of what you guys have heard about the trucking industry thus far is peanuts compared to whats about to happen next!

This is what is going to be the fuel is never going back down the freight will go up some. Fuel will never get back to $3. Something a gallon. The Democratic Party In office is idiots and we have another 3 years with the stmf then probably 2 years after that. On the move I have nothing else left to say

Ok my thought on this. That big organization been wanting to stop trucking but they can't so that's why they're doing Thier best to make robot trucks. Of course lack of respect for the American Trucker also so of course they not trying to help us at all. Look at the railroad they threatened strike and 2 to 3 days later they inside the Whitehouse making plans and obviously it's work somewhere because they are still moving. It's something that they are trying to do because this has never happened. Like you said my brother we as truckers need to manage our finances. But a lot of ppl go spending shit and suffering later. And this guy's out here running for less you just gonna now kill what lil bit is left. I hate to say this and not being negative but I don't know what's going to happen. We just better stay prayed up. Frfr🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
