Fixed: VIKING Gas Range Cooktop Stove keeps Clicking and Sparking after Flame is lit

  • The Fix: Replace the Female Disconnect that's connected underneath to the Electrode Ignition as part of the Sealed Burner. The Female Disconnect ( 22-18 AWG) is like $2 for a pack of 10 at home depot.
    You'll need a Torx T15 screw bit in order to remove the screws holding the sealed burner in place.
    Long Story:
    The middle burner of my Viking range cooktop is able to create a spark and light the flame but once the flame is lit it continues to click and spark. Usually when the sensor detects the flame it's suppose to stop sparking. My other burners spark and ignite without issue.
    I've scoured the internet trying to resolve my issue and the usual suggestion of cleaning the stove and sensor of water and debris didn't work for me. Other suggestions to troubleshoot include turning on all the burners and if the problem goes away it's a spark module issue. But in my case turning all the burners on didn't work as the middle burner continue to click/spark.

    There was no explanation of what happended? Did the wire disconnect on its own? Why do we need a new female connector?

    This looks like it would work on my stove. But those T15 screws on mine seem to be filled with solder or something, I can't get a screwdriver into them. Sabotaged so we couldn't service it? It seems to be filled with metal, not food and food wouldn't get in there anyway. Has anyone else had this problem?

    Mine is definitely not a torx 15 screw but it a similar Allen key , one came out and one broke off.
    On another stove I had to drill out the screw
    seems a common problem w the screws.

    Hey, I'd love to know where you found the female disconnect? I checked at HD and the only ones they have is .250 which is way too big. It's also hard to find on amazon.. any idea?

    • @TheSe1zure
      @TheSe1zure  3 роки тому

      Hi. I got mine from home Depot. The .250 is correct. You want the red colors ones like I have in the video in a 22-18 gauge
      Example from homedepot
      22 - 18 AWG 0.250 Fully Insulated F-Disconnects in Red (15-Pack)

      @@TheSe1zure Some of the models use a smaller size. It's 22-18 AWG .110 for some models, like mine. Same steps as your video, just different size. Might want to call that out in your description. Thanks for the video otherwise!

    I have a 6 burner Viking cooktop. They all have been cleaned and start up just fine. But the clicking is the problem. One burner clicks once then stops. 3 burners click 5-8 times and then stop. 2 burners click continuous and never stop. So, do you think the female disconnect is the problem?

    • @TheSe1zure
      @TheSe1zure  3 роки тому

      The reason the female disconnect is an issue is the connection is broken so the burner never sends the signal that it's lit, hence the continuously clicking. i would say the one that is clicking continuously and never stops sounds like the problem I have and could be that disconnect. The others that click and stop could be something different . Why your burners click a few times and then stops makes me think it received the signal eventually. Who knows, maybe replacing the female disconnects anyway because it's a poor connection would correct that issue also

    Thank you for this video. I followed your instructions, and it worked great. Very easy. The only challenging part for me was finding the right sized female disconnect. Because my Home Depot didn't have the right size, I got it from my local electronics store. The wire gauge is 22-18 AWG. Once I found that part, I just followed the steps in your video.

      I'm happy this help solve your problem! Yeah the wire gauge is 22-18. I mentioned it in one of the comment replies below but I just edited the description to include that as well. Thank You

    Thank you for such a great informative video! Question: I have a 4 burner Viking, the 24in VGIC245 model. The two right burners are fine (often they spark click to no flame until you turn them off and try again, 2nd time being the charm).
    However on the two left burners, there is only gas coming through, while the only spark clicks that occur happen on the right burners.
    What do you think the fix is?
    1) Cleaning the spark plug heads with brush and cleaner
    2) replacing the plugs as you have beneath the two left side spark posts
    3) replacing the stove's spark module altogether
    THANK YOU in advance for any help you can provide!

      Hi. I’m no professional but I would try and rule out why it’s not sparking. Definitely do the usual first. Clean everything as best you can, try changing the female connect like I did to ensure there’s a good connection. If possible maybe even try wiring it to a known working spark module, although the thought of rewiring might be very daunting task
