We just cut the bags open and fill them with water to thaw the shrimp. A lot of seafood comes in frozen, but the beef/pork side should be cut fresh every day. Key word 'Should' lol

"You can't eat the shrimp tail" Bish, yes you can! I understand that most don't think it's pleasant to chew on, but the entire shell of a shrimp is completely edible, and it is custom to eat shrimp with the shell on in many countries.
Tried the simple version of the recipe and just wow, it was absolutely scrumptious. Definitely recommend for people who think cooking is too hard or just want to try something new.

Just made the easy version with angel hair after shoveling snow all day. It was surprisingly easy and very forgiving. Sauce was very light but the flavors worked in tangent to create a great meal. I hardly needed salt in mine after salting the pasta water, and salting my shrimp. If I had used salted butter I wouldn’t have to salt it at all.
It's funny how this dish doesn't seem to exist here in Europe at all. I've never seen it on a menu. However, we do have deep fried scampi, which are basically scampi nuggets, battered/breadcrumbed and fried, usually served with chips (fries). Those are absolutely gorgeous. They're basically little lobster nuggets. You always squeeze a lemon over them which adds a ton of flavour, and dip them in tartare sauce. Mmm. I've always wanted to try this scampi pasta dish though too, so thank you for making a video about it.

I don't mind the tails when we're talking fried shrimp, or even to grab when eating a shrimp cocktail. However, in a pasta dish like this or any dish where the shrimp is mixed into it, I would rather have the tails removed.
@@scarlettmi you can toast them to a crisp in a scampi, but admittedly it is much more attention demanding than would be in a ‘basics’ bit - the seafood pastas with the shell-on, tail-on butterflied shrimp are demanding yet super delicious
Don't worry, I'm a tail eater too. It's not harmful for you, other than the fact that it can be really pokey and hurt your mouth a bit. Actually provides a decent amount of calcium.

Scampi tastes meatier I think, I don't like them as much as prawns (shrimp) for that reason. Also gutting them is easy as, Babish looked like he was fiddling around with them too much, should take roughly 4 seconds to fully deshell/gut one.

I’ve made a version of this that’s kinda a combination of the simple and complex versions. Absolute perfection. It boggles my mind every time how the sauce is mostly broken and oily until I add the pasta water and it turns into a creamy sauce that’s almost like magic with how it thickens. The only thing I omit from the complex version is the additional herbs and red pepper flakes. I also cut down a little on the parsley since everyone else I make it for isn’t as big a fan as I am, but it’s still delicious. Thank you so much!
You can also eat it when the shell is thin enough actually. Especially small shrimps with losta sauce. Might feel weird at first but definitely tasty and not much waste
Always had a habit of eating the tails when I was a kid and I still catch myself doing it now. Can't help it. I know there really isn't any nutritional value from it but I wonder if there is a way to properly toast and make "chips" out of them.
I love shallots with it. I lightly dredged shrimp in a flour/spice mixture, and it came out with a great texture in the final dish. Your videos are great!
@@recoil53 he probably had recurring allergic reactions to food dishes involving shrimp, and assumed it was a shrimp allergy. There’s also a chance he was allergic to shrimp, and just outgrew the allergy. Obviously that’s not the scientific term for it but I heard it’s happened before.
I think one of the reasons I adore Babish channel is because it's so professional looking and sounding (and I'm sure tasting), but still incredibly humble at times.
Well really anything is edible if you are brave enough 😉🤣 but as for the tails, I personally don't eat them but I know plenty of people who do same with eating the head. Each to their own I guess.
I've tried to eat shrimp tails before and I just can't do it. It feels like a mouthful of fingernails. How do I know? I had a really bad nail biting habit as a kid. Now it just grosses me out.

All depends on how its cooked. Fried at high temps and made crispy, u can leave the whole shell on and eat it whole.

I love shallots with it. I lightly dredged shrimp in a flour/spice mixture, and it came out with a great texture in the final dish. Your videos are great!

@@recoil53 he probably had recurring allergic reactions to food dishes involving shrimp, and assumed it was a shrimp allergy. There’s also a chance he was allergic to shrimp, and just outgrew the allergy. Obviously that’s not the scientific term for it but I heard it’s happened before.

If its only pan fried then its harder to eat. Deep fried is probably the better option, I always eat the tail on my shrimp tempura
Well really anything is edible if you are brave enough 😉🤣 but as for the tails, I personally don't eat them but I know plenty of people who do same with eating the head. Each to their own I guess.
I've tried to eat shrimp tails before and I just can't do it. It feels like a mouthful of fingernails. How do I know? I had a really bad nail biting habit as a kid. Now it just grosses me out.
