- An excellent afternoon session spent at Portsmouth & Southsea on the Portsmouth Direct Line where we see endless services from South Western Railway, Great Western Railway and Southern.
Portsmouth & Southsea was opened in 1847 and was originally called Portsmouth Town as to avoid confusion with other stations around Portsmouth at the time. It wasn't until 1925 when the station was renamed to Portsmouth & Southsea. This was because from 1885 till 1914 there was a branch line called the Southsea Railway Branch Line which ran into the town of Southsea and terminated there. The reason for the closure of the line was because of fierce competition from trams and trolleybusses. Once the station was closed tourists were redirected towards Portsmouth Town station. A year later in 1926 the town of Southsea became integrated with Portsmouth.
One interesting feature about this station is the old station canopy covering platforms 1 + 2. It still retains it's old Network Southeast Livery.
This was my first time here and I can safely say I was not dissapointed. I love the unique layout of this station for trains coming to and from Portsmouth Harbour, on top of that if you do come here and you have an afternoon free I would highly recommend going for a walk around the historic dockyards of Portsmouth as there is so much to be seen there if you are into your naval history. I highly recommend that you go for a walk around HMS Victory, a beautiful ship with loads to learn about.
My next station is going to be Ely on the Fen Line.

Great to see somewhere local! Last month we had a couple of steam trains come down for the day and it was lovely to see!
It's been a long time since I used Porzmiffan Zouzee or Porzmiff 'aarber on a regular basis, but I definitely do not recall seeing all those tower blocks! just lots of green EMU's sparking back and to! The two stations always seemed to be fairly people-quiet except at about 5pm on a Friday, and the 'red-eye' from Waterloo arriving at around 7am Mondays - full of matelots!
I had a bit of a chuckle at
Awesome video, good variety of trains!

Very nice video
That one time I visited Portsmouth Harbour I tried to get a full shot of The Spinnaker Building but I couldn’t so I hopped on a ferry to Gosport to get it. That and I did have a bit of a wander around there and Portsmouth Harbour that was back in 2014 my last visit to the UK before my passport expired.
This is an amazing video, full of laughs and train information.

Brilliant video! I was down that way the other day (well technically I was at Portsmouth Harbour) Got a couple of vids for my fledgling channel! I’m gutted I didn’t see a 313 when I was down there - still don’t have footage of one of them! Anyhow great video! Also 444041 - glad to see her appearing - she is the star 444 of the fleet in my view!
