  • Carlsbad Caverns National Park in New Mexico has some of the largest caves in North America. Over 100 and still counting limestone caves and passageways can be found here. At this time, there are only two sections that are open to the public, the Big Room and King’s Palace. The Big Room is the only one that you can visit on your own. To go to King’s Palace, you will need to join a Ranger Tour. King’s Palace Tour at Carlsbad Caverns is a 1.5-hour ranger-guided tour that would take you 830ft underground, through 4 chambers full of beautiful and interesting cave formations. If you’re visiting Carlsbad Caverns, you need to do this!

I visited the caverns in 93-94 and they had the caverns completely lit up on the inside. It was amazing. It was filled with little ponds and water dripping everywhere. It was super saturated as they say. But they realized that mold was growing from the lights and they minimized the lighting after that. We took our kids somewhere around 2010 and most of the water was dried up. It's still really amazing. The bat flight is really neat to see if you are there at the right time. We went in August and it was pretty cool to see millions of bats come out of the cave. Thanks for the videos!

That must have been quite a sight back then! At least it seems like they have dont a really good job on the current lighting setup. I fell like it adds a bit of mystery and a maybe even a little spookyness. It definitely makes it harder to use a gopro, but we loved how it casted shadows. We would really love to get out there for the bat flight! We got a tiny example of what it would be like with the swallows but im sure that there weren't nearly as many flying citters.

    Hi guys
Wow I didn't think Carlsbad caverns could get any better but that tour looks awesome out of this world. Such a great park next time there that is a must. You ever been to Mammoth caves in Kentucky? Me not yet but hopefully one day. What month were you there?

Pretty amazing right!? We have never been to Kentucky, but we have heard of that face and it sounds pretty epic as well. It's definitely in the to do list. We visited in April. It was pretty warm outside but nice and cool inside. 😁

Way back when mid 70's they had only one tour . It stated at the natural entrance and took you into Kings Palace .It ended at the big room which was a self guided tour. They also had box lunches one could buy.

Thank you for the blast from the past! The Kings Palace is the only tour currently offered. But there are 4 or 5 others and we hope they come back soon. We would love to explore more! 😎👍
