    Dlss makes a big difference. Framerates goes up and we get better anti aliasing. I think this is a huge win. Ive been hoping one of the major of the major consoles would get it

      For framerates, not really, and for antialiasing probably. Switch 2 is still going to be close to a theoretical RTX 2050, which doesn’t give it enough performance to overcome overhead and do proper DLSS to boost FPS unless aggressively upscaling, which means blurrier images.
      It will definitely help, but given the constrains, is not going to be as amazing or as noticeable as the full PC version.

      There will definitely be some games that look better on the Switch 2 over the main 3 consoles due to DLSS giving a cleaner image. Look at Alien Isolation the image was sharper and cleaner on the Switch Vs PS4.

    4k sounds like it'd be very rare on this. Maybe 1440p could be a more looked for target.
    Only way I can see 4k being a big part of the Switch successor, is if it's backwards compatible & has the ability to enhance the Switch game library, upscaling them to 4k.
    Although i guess that would bring in to question cross gen titles. Theoretically, what would you do if you had a Switch version of Metroid Prime 4 that could be upscaled to 4k, and a next gen version of Metroid Prime 4 that looks much better, but it's in 1080p?

    My 2 cents:
    1. I think games that hit 1080p 60fps on Switch already look great on a good 4k TV. I regularly play Splatoon 3 on my LG C1 and I think it looks awesome. The art style and vibrant colors allow the game to look excellent despite its limitations. While I have no doubt it would look better in 4k, at normal viewing distance it already looks crisp and clear to my eyes. It's my hope that Nintendo utilizes the extra power of the Switch 2 to bring games up to this level first, and then push them further if possible. I would take a stable 1080p 60fps over 4k 30fps with frame drops and stutters.
    2. I don't think Nintendo really has to worry all that much about how powerful their hardware is anyway. The real power of Nintendo is in their IPs. If you want to play the newest Mario, Zelda, or Pokemon, you're gonna have to get the Switch 2. (Yeah, I know, you can emulate. How many people can really be bothered to fiddle with that though? Convenience trumps all for most people - that's why streaming is vastly more popular than physical media. So until it's as easy to play Mario Kart with your friends through an emulator on your Steam Deck as it is to play natively on the Switch 2, I don't see other handhelds as a major threat to Switch 2 sales. No more than emulators on PC already were, anyway.)

    • @yaricoo

      pretty much I agree, but then the reason why we hoping its power to be more powerful is mostly for us, not for Nintendo. I just wish the next their console can replace most of my game library, for convenience sake. after all that fuss about umpcs, no one still actually topped Nintendo's form factor. we need handheld console that can actually can be carried around.

    My one worry is that game devs have used FSR so damn haphazardly this generation on PS5/Xbox that you have games that look blurrier than the previous generations when it gets used because they are trying to upscale 720p to 1440p or 4k. I worry that with the Switch 2 that devs will be trying to upscale 240p to 1080p or something stupid.

      @vivid8979 26 днів тому +3

      That's not how you utilize FSR tho... 240p vs 720p image qualities are vastly different the latter can still retain alot of details, hence why it's the most use resolution for upscaling...
      If you're gonna upscale from 240p to 1080p then might as well just render your game in native 720p for a more stable image at that point.. Switch 2 can definitely handle that at least since the current switch can do that.

    • @PantsaBear
      @PantsaBear 25 днів тому +5

      @@vivid8979 Theyre aware thats not how it is intended to be used. The point is that devs as of late seem to be running low on time optimizing their games as publishers are looking to get games out asap, which causes games to utilize upscaling as a crutch rather than what its supposed to be used for (obviously UE4 and 5 is to blame here as well). Also publishers want the console marketing to say "4K graphics" or whatever tagline, so this upscaling allows for these things to be techincally true even if obviously it looks and runs badly.
      Ideally all games hit 1080p to 1440p in docked mode @60fps on Switch 2. Who knows if thats what will actually happen in practice or how well it will be implemented, especially as another commenter pointed out, due to memory bandwidth still being a design constraint.

    I wish people would stop talking about 4K as if it was anything other than a resolution. I have no doubt in my mind that the Switch 2 will support 4K, that's not even a question. It just will. The question should be how powerful is the hardware and how many games will actually be able to run at 4K. And how many will they want to run at 4K as opposed to using the additional power elsewhere. And the answer to that is.... depends on the game
    I wouldn't expect a Switch 2 port of CyberPunk or RDR2 to be able to run at 4K at any usable framerate even if DLSS assisted. But a 2D Mario game or a remaster of a GC title? I see no reason why it couldn't do those at native 4K. Realistically I could see a fair amount of Nintendo's library being 4K because, when you go down the list, most of their first party output is either fixed frame, on rails or 2D. I basically don't see much of a difference playing in 1440p vs 4k on a TV. It might show up when playing on a monitor sitting close or when playing on a 150" inch blown up screen from a projector.
    So, if Switch 2 could do upscaled 1440p at 30fps, it is still very good for TV. And if it could do that using DLSS balanced instead of performance mode, then it would be really good. I know it is too much to ask for DLSS quality mode. Probably if they had gone with Blackwell, instead of Ampere based Tegra, it might have been possible and would have resulted in an exceptional handheld that competitors simply couldn't match in next few years in raw power.

    In my experience, TSR looks notably better than most XeSS and FSR2 implementations, where XeSS dpa4 generally looks better than FSR2.2, but sometimes you end up trading one problem for another. At a TV-viewing distance they can look pretty similar, where TSR will look quite a bit better. TSR and XeSS seem to be about as heavy as each other too. Of course, this is all on a game by game basis.

    I have a feeling that a relatively low-power chip on a Nintendo console is probably not going to leverage DLSS. That also means all Nintendo games will need to be trained on the AI for DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling) which I think Nintendo game developers will be resistant to.
    If they use it then it might be a background thing that is not heavily advertised, and they shouldn't guarantee that it will upscale to 4K because that is not realistic for a low-power chip. They also shouldn't advertise it will upscale to 1440p because the average consumer doesn't really care about that resolution (televisions are either 1080p or 4K typically). If anything they will use DLSS to upscale from 720p to 1080p so we can finally get Breath of the Wild at a stable 30, or 60 frames.
    Nintendo has not bothered to push the boundaries of technical specs for a long time, and they are not going to start with a Switch V2. I very much hope it is about 3 times more powerful than the Switch from 2017, but it will not compete with Sony and Microsoft unless they are ditching the mobile form factor and charging $500-$600 for it.

    • @stevetriple8
      @stevetriple8 26 днів тому

      It's not necessarily forced by companies. Most modern engines are using modern rendering techniques meaning that older methods of anti-aliasing are unusable such as MSAA, so all we really have access to is TAA or SSAA (through internal resolution scaling) and a few other temporal or post process methods. DLSS is also basically upscaled TAA as it uses the same temporal data. There's word that the new UE update will allow for new methods similar to MSAA, however so many rendering techniques with lighting, particle effects, ambient occlusion etc. are heavily reliant on temporal data so I wouldn't expect it to go away anytime soon, especially with how effective it is at 4k compared to how performance heavy older methods like MSAA were at that resolution. I would agree at 1080p and 1440p TAA is a horrible blurry mess but at 4k it's totally usable and you can have a very sharp image with minimal to no detail loss. Sometimes even gain some detail with DLSS Quality at 4k.

    The switch is most important in its handheld cuz I feel that’s how most people play it, but being able to leverage DLSS to have 2k at good frames would still be great. Honestly I'm surprised how good some games look on Switch's 720p OLED screen but there aren't many games, especially more modern ones, that manage to hit that resolution and maintain a high framerate in order to take full advantage of that screen. Trying to hit Full HD for maximum clarity then seems like it will be a big struggle in handheld mode even with a "new" chip set.

      They already have their features to set them apart. The chip that was leaked by Nvidia gives them the graphical capability of a PS4 Pro. They wouldn't go with something weaker than that. They are in a much different position than they have ever been. It will be strong enough to run most games devs will want to bring to it. We've seen the ceiling that devs have hit. I think they will happy to make games that can run on it.

    Im sorry but i cant really take DF seriously after their nvidia exclusives (aka sponsorship) and how manipulative nvidia is with media. And how can they say the switch 2 will be much more powerful - the switch 1 chip was 3 year old technology outdone by modern phones at the time it was released? That's not true at all, the first phones which were able to beat switch in power were released in late 2018, in fact Nintendo used the best mobile soc nvidia had at the moment (tegra X2 was released in 2018), and the ally is good until you check battery life

    Fanboys love daydreaming, but they forget that the standard is gonna change. In 2027 we will see ps6 and steam deck 2 coming in the horizon. Switch 2 might look decent in 2025, not for long will it be outdated trash again. Just like switch, it can run some ps4 titles with garbage performance. But after ps5 became the new standard, there's no way for it to catch up. And the handheld performance is beaten the hell up by deck.

    • @Elchinodawn
      @Elchinodawn 26 днів тому +1

      The industry isn't like in the 2000's or even 2010's, now consoles gens last around 8 years each one and another 4 years to become the standard, and the home consoles are becoming somewhat unrelevant for the industry, so switch 2 would have untik around 2032 to be confortably getting games from developers without worrying

  • @espressomatic
    @espressomatic 20 днів тому

    There are 3 factors that have driven Nintendo's success for the Switch - and the same recipe will drive the next revision: 1. PRICE 2. Portability 3. First-party (exclusive) titles. That's it. No more, no less. Hardware specs didn't matter and won't matter for 2025 so long as they're better than the Tegra X1 in the Switch.
    The new revision won't compete for performance with Sony or MS's base systems, and it's unlikely to compete even with the PS4Pro or XBOX One X. The only thing that matters is replicating the 3 core points mentioned above and showing a significant difference in styling and functionality over the Switch.

    Early predictions time!🤓
    - @ 10w and under, Switch 2 kills the competition.
    - @ 15w on these current handhelds, Switch 2 will be competitive in portable mode. (Possibly with the upper hand in some cases).
    - @ 25w on these current handhelds, Switch 2 will be outperformed, in portable mode. (Still, generally 'hanging in there').
    - @ 25w on current handhelds, Switch 2 outperforms them, in docked mode.
    (loses ground in CPU heavy games).
    - @ 40w+ on current handhelds, they are well into "diminishing returns" territory for performance gains. Switch 2 will remain competitive in docked mode. (May lag slightly behind. Notably so, in CPU heavy games).
    That said, Switch 2 will have exclusive games, and impossible ports that defy what ought to be possible on these current devices, at any wattage. That's how I see things shaking out.
    Save post, and watch me nail it(or fail it😒) next year.🫡
