I think it would be crazy to take blame on Russian makers. I have a favorite maker in Ukraine who has been wonderful to do business with in the past and I “prepaid” him for a couple harps.
I can't imagine anyone thinking it's a good idea to withhold business from Russian jaw harp makers. That said, I think it would be a cool idea for those still able to make their instruments to somehow mark them as made during this conflict - as something to remember their struggle and perseverance. Even something like making the frame from the smelted brass shell casings, sort of like the Hmongs did with dan moi.
I just got my batman glazyrin from you about a month ago and I find it priceless and even more with the war going on for the fact it’s supporting the makers instrument and it supports Russia in a positive way which is irrelevant To the war 💯
Thank you for this video, people just often forget that regular people living in Russia aren't at fault for any of this, yet they are getting punished. I hope the situation gets better soon, it's really putting a strain on everyone involved.
I hope the world is full of understanding and peace, and I support every person with a good heart in the world with the purest feeling and hope. grateful.
Though where can we buy russian harps? :( Edit: i did order a russian harp from a russian maker through amazon, i hope it wont be delayed due to the situation :(
Thank you Jamie for this video! Video and comments to it gave me consolation, joy and cheerfulness. Everything that happens is not my choice. Thank you to all thoughtful people! A jew's harp maker thinks about his work and his family, and not about military operations. Regards, Oleg.
Love and good energies to you. Love your harps. I was just jamming on one of your instruments in C2 last night. Best wishes from All us harpists. 🙂🙏❤️🔥🌀

As a vetern of a foreign war even though we may have not liked our job's we had to do it otherwise there was high consequence of what would happen. On both sides most of the soliders want the same thing to get home to loved ones. It is not the soldiers fault our leader's think of just themselves and there interests. So my take on this is play those harps for peace and tranquility and love the people for who they are and not what is portrayed of them. My heart aches for the people on both sides.
Thank you for this great video!! Me, myself am interested in buying a Russian Vargan from Oberton pro (Kozakhul Vargan- it looks good, it SOUNDS good), but i am afraid of the package being held at customs, because of sanctions, of which, you rightly said, common people haven t got a fault...so ~i went on Amazon, where they have some harps from Oberton pro, and so far saw Yamanigan harp there (which sound close to Kozakhul). The disadvantage of Amazon is big, the choice is none in comparison, description is far mor scarce and not all harps have audio example..... Greetings!! G.
As Jamie mentioned, people in Russia aren't allowed to speak out and protest but I know many don't agree with what is currently going on. I will play all my harps with love ❤️
So now we should stop reading the russian literature because of war ? I don't get it ... As an example - Goethe's work wasn't banned after WW2 , because he was a german writer ... Art have no nationality . Art is art .
As a Russian harp player, I can say that in Russia there are certain people who support what is happening now, but they are heard only because others were simply forbidden to speak. Even now I am writing this comment, checking my words to avoid problems. As you correctly said, most people do not support what is happening now, but they are not heard. For an ordinary Russian, life becomes more expensive and harder every day because of the boycott that Western companies have declared to the country (they made up a huge part of the Russian market). Thank you for your wise opinion, this opinion is now lacking in the Western community, where it has become fashionable to be intolerant of Russians, when in fact, most of us do not want all this crap.
First, my political tendency is very close to anarcondicalism. I agree with Noam Chomsky: "Putin committed a criminal aggression and fired at his foot." The wars are made by the political leaders who stay at home and send our children to die for their own benefit, has passed in all wars. The Russians are subjected by an exacerbated and corrupt national dictator. Putin is not a communist. At this time there is no democracy in Russia and its means of communication are censored. Ukraine also has a lot of dirty clothes for washing, there is a lot of ultra-right (fascist), so they have not entered Europe or NATO. Zelenski came out in the Pandora Papers as holder of accounts in tax havens with funds from Igor Kolomoisky magnate that finances the Battalions Neonazis Azov. Neither Putin, nor Zelensky are honest. Remember that they are politicians and their interests who cause wars, always. Russian and Ukrainian artisans have human rights that their leaders do not respect. I have more respect for a craft or worker than by a lying and corrupt politician. My biggest desire is that this conflict ends, the sooner better for everyone. My solidarity is with all the victims on both sides. I send them to all of Spain a hug of light and all the love and compassion I have along with my wishes that end this and all wars on the planet. Peace, love and Jaw harps for all.
@Luis Maria Herrero, I agree with your statements. In my most humble opinion, Putin is not the bad guy here. He is simply stuck in the middle. Ukraine has been a cash cow for many politicians based here in the U.S. Trump was on the verge of exposing and upsetting it all. You know what they did to Trump, why wouldn't they start a war to cover it all up and blame it on Putin. The propaganda by the media has us all misinformed. Many will suffer for this and *maybe* the main players will be exposed and convicted for their crimes. May God be with us all.
Keep buying and keep playing. Let us enjoy the best of Russia not the worst (Putin). I love Russia and Russian people and find them formidable and talented. Unfortunately, most are brainwashed and that will only change with a free media. Russians did not ask for war. This was the work of one man, Putin. Lets not make life worse for the Russian artists and musicians who make harps and need the income. Ditto for the Ukrainians. Continue as before - no change.
i play 2 months now and have 6 harps. 2 from austria (toy), 1 from nepal in e3, 1 dan moi, and 2 russian harps a volgutov maelstrom( near a#1) and a novikov styx in d2 (my favourite). i am not political at all, i buy what i think is the best product for me and my next harp will be the glazyrin aria or the oracle by vlad bereza. and on my wishlist is the big set by Áron Szilágyi
There's good apples, and bad apples everywhere. It seems a lot of governments, all over, have been taken over by bad apples, where the vast majority governed, are good apples. This is how I explained to my 6 year old daughter when she started crying out of the blue and asked about the war and war in general. 6.
Main problem is, the Russian harps can still get posted out. The Ukrainian postal service has gone to shit and the makers are having to cancel orders. I know this for a fact coz it's just happened to me when I ordered one from Ebay.
I ordered an ”Alpha” right before all this waring bull$#¡+ started because i saw one of your videos on how great they are. Delivery is very slow right now. It’s held up in customs or whatever. I’m still waiting. It’s cool, I understand. Just wanna say…PUCK FUTIN!!!
Awesome view. Small makers should not be targeted because of Putin. They’re not like oligarchs who have ties to Putin. They are like us musicians who are barely surviving in these times.
Keep them, they are not even part of the war!! We need to know that there are normal people there too and there are many spiritual places in Russia so we need to stop the hatred towards each other when it's the leaders we need to end..
Unless they are spreading propaganda through their art (any artist), no artist or creator should be vilified because of where they come from. Of course! Not supporting the little man won't stick it to their government, it just hurts the little man. 🙏❤️
Hi Jamie. I had a few small talks with Russian & Ukrainian jaw harp makers recently. Yes, it's a disaster for ordinal people from both countries, especially for the makers (they're absolutely not rich). I believe you already saw posts in social media (which are already banned in Russia) from Dima Babayev, Sasha Dernovoi and others. Personally, I also have to put away my vargans for some time due to temporary (I hope so) emigration. I had to leave most of them at home and have no idea when I'll be able to return back - I just can't take risks to lose my job 'cause my family depends on me.
Multiple subscribers ask, I answer. Virtue signaling would apply more to a statement meant to try and demonstrate a moral goodness. I do not think it could apply to subscribers who are asking honest questions.
@@bebbcorpharpery7331 I read this comment after posting mine and I wasn’t sure how to answer it. You’re not virtue signaling and I’m glad you’re not afraid to address it with common sense. I wouldn’t be averse to buying more Russian harps either. I would think continual support of Russian makers has no repercussions on the Russian state itself. If anything the harp makers are ambassadors of many of the cultures within Russia and should be supported. I hope the makers and the people seeking Russian harps are able to find channels to continue to support each other. It would be a shame if they went out of business because of one cranky old leader with historical grievances. However I worry Russia might have a rocky future ahead of it. Feeling sad for UA and anyone affected by this around the world. They say RU and UA account for 25% of the worlds wheat production… so many around the world can expect to be affected by this. Thanks for your response!
No you should not stop using whatever russian devices you already have unless they require ongoing license fees to Russia. However you probably should think twice before buying new stuff from Russia. Probably self fullfilling as most russian stuff on shelves was imported before the war. But you should definitely not import anything from Russia these days and probably for a long time to come.
Stupid question, the musical instrument company has nothing to do with the Russian invasion of Ukraine. People start to think and stop acting like idiots.
Even further explained in the video, these are not musical instrument companies. Most Russian makers are individual people making instruments in garages, sheds, cellars, and spare rooms of their homes. I am friends with many of them and they oppose the war. 🙂
Also I wouldn’t call it a stupid question at all. Many people have asked this question and for good reason. The media and news is talking more and more everyday about how Russia is being sanctioned and how Russian products should not be bought. If people hear this multiple times every single day, that is the reason so many people are having this question and the reason this video was made. 🙂

Exactly . Art is art and jaw harp is not a machine gun !
My musical instruments do not care where they are from or who made them. I simply hold them to make noise.
100% agree. I currently keep one Russian and one Ukrainian harp on my person daily. Not once have they caused trouble in my pocket.😀
