  • We are going back to Polar Seal!!! And we’ve been hiding something from you…
Alright guys, it is time that we come clean about something :)
In September, we realized that we really needed to get back to Polar Seal. She is our home, and we simply cannot leave her baking under the sun in Curacao. We’d rather be baking with her.
Unfortunately, it was still impossible for us to travel directly from Sweden to curaçao, as the island simply wasn’t allowing travelers from the country. Our options were limited, but one day… we received an email.
    And that email, changed everything!
In this episode, we tell you about how we are going back to Polar Seal, and about the epic adventure that is awaiting onboard Lady Luna, a Hatteras 70 from 1978.
In the next 2 months, Ryan & Sophie Sailing becomes: Ryan & Sophie Motoring! :)
Welcome to a new chapter of the adventure!

I will be very interested to hear your views on the differences between the two ways of getting across the water and the practical differences, my boat is very much a project and I knew nothing about boats before I bought her so seeing how other boats are laid out and how they work is very helpful to me. @@RyanSophieSailing BTW Sophie, the larger Hatterases have Naiad stabilizers, so not as much roll (no heeling :) The 70 has a very wide beam as well, over 18'. It's a super well made boat, and with a 1970's model, I would imagine all the running equipment, including the Detroit engines, generators, etc. would have been completely overhauled or refitted before attempting an ocean crossing. And my guess is this is a LRC, which had the twin 185's in them with over 2,600 gallons of fuel capacity. I've been eyeing the 65 LRC to retire onto in 3 years. But they do require a lot of maintenance (as all boats do, but these are old,) and Ryan will be spending a lot of time in the engine room on the crossing. But, me thinks you will love this boat. It's very classy, and suits you well.

I have seen trawlers crossing oceans on UA-cam, some with big extra fule tank/tanks on deck.
None of them with the intention to sell it. But if that's the case, it's a good possibility you're right.
