Great video, thank you for sharing the information. You have inspired me to get my self a boat similar to yours so i will keep you up dated. Keep up the great work. Thanks Geoff
Great work Paul. She looks beautiful. I always try to store paint tins upside down. The seal of the lid is usually a good liquid seal but a poor vapour seal.
much cheaper than international or Norglass and they paint ships and Oil rigs with Jotun, you can talk to their paint consultant who is more than happy to help.
Wow, what a beautiful boat! And good job using quarantine time for something productive. Inspiration to us all 😁. I’m going to need to undertake a similar project soon!! I hit that subscribe button, looking forward to your next adventure!
She looks really nice, a job well done. I've just painted mine the hull is zink yellow. If I can't right a capsize in the Wash, I want the world to see where I am 😁. Thank you for another interesting film
Great tips again! I have never considered Jotun but am using Norglass which is at least cheaper than International Paints. I made the mistake of using microfibre rollers and watched them disintegrate in from to my eyes . . . I changed for the blue stripe rollers but Id like to give mohair a go after hearing of your success. Cheers
When it comes to Hardener I leave the lid on. I puncture the bottom of the can with a flat blade screwdriver right up against the edge and then opposite that I make a tiny air hole. as soon as I have finished measuring I clean the holes and apply electrical tape. at the end of the job i cover the can base with electrical tape. i will let you know in a couple of years if this worked long term
Thanks, yep but I think it's the air in the can that sets off the hardner, so the cling film stops that but it is messy and wasteful. Thanks for watching cheers Paul
Excellent advice. I've seen garage floor paint used as a cost saving measure and, two years on, that particular boat still looks ok. But I think the industrial paint idea is probably the best compromise between cost and efficacy. How much cheaper was it than regular (overpriced?) yachtie alternatives?
Great job..looks great . Good to get more video of all the boat as it helps with my build. Do you find water trapped or pooling near the end of the coaming and trim on the aft deck? Currently fitting trim etc there and looks like it would catch water so thinking of a limber hole or altering the coaming some how.
High just found your comment, no I get any water pooling there, aft deck never gets wet unless it rains and then I'm not normally sailing. Will do a rigging video soon with more detail and close ups just for you. By the way you should contact Chris Ellard at Sydney Deck Sealing....he restores decks now but was a boat builder and has built about 17 Scruffie designed boats (his dad owns Scruffie Marine). He is really helpful and glad to offer any advice....well worth a call.
