Munich Way of St. James - Stage 8 Hohenpeissenberg - Rottenbuch

- On the first sunny Saturday after weeks of cold and rain, on April 22, 2023, I set off on my first 2-day stage on the Munich Way of St. James including an overnight stay!
I travel to Hohenpeissenberg by S-Bahn and regional train.
On the train I meet an old lady who wishes me a "Guten Weg" - "Buen Camino" in German!
From Hohenpeissenberg I go in the direction of the Ammer Gorge and walk through blooming and green spring landscapes.
I treat myself to a hearty lunchtime snack on the banks of the Ammer after the only restaurant on the route is closed today.
Although I was a bit worried that the Ammer Gorge might not be accessible because of the rain the night before, I can enjoy the walk along the high banks of the Ammer without any problems. However, the paths are very muddy and I get really dirty.
Warning for imitators: You have to be sure-footed on this path and you need sturdy shoes! The paths are not secured by railings and it is quite steep down! Don't walk here when it's raining!
A steep ascent takes me from the Ammer valley to Rottenbuch.
I get a pilgrim's stamp in the monastery church of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary.
In front of an osteria that is currently being renovated, I meet an Italian woman who has just visited the church and with whom I am talking in Italian. She wishes me "Buon Cammino" when I say goodbye.
After a piece of apple pie and a non-alcoholic Pilgerweißbier, I go to the Pension Gänseblümchen and move into my room.
I wash my dirty laundry in the ScrubbaBag and hang it up on my pilgrim clothesline.
The next day I should continue to the Wieskirche.

What a lovely journey. Thanks for sharing.
Beautiful scenery. Bavaria is such a lovely place.
