As some extra information: you got snufkin about right. He's adult, really helpful and friendly, loves nature and is rebellious but in peaceful way. Story of game goes bit along with story from 1957 (Vaarallinen juhannus), but really losely. Characters, actions and so on are mostly from story, but there is definitely creative freedom taken by developers. Characters are just right and well done (moomin trademark has to accept everything, they take seriously their brand). I love the fact they chose snufkin as main character because he is definitely most exciting character!

as a huge moomin fan, I was SO excited to see that you guys were playing this game. it's an absolutely phenomenal series and the game does it great justice, I hope you guys continue it
to answer aenne's questions about the original story:
the game is loosely based off of moominsummer madness (1954) and one of the short stories from tales from moominvalley (1962) titled the spring tune in which snufkin meets teety-woo and is very annoyed over being idolised. in moominsummer madness, the valley floods and the moomin family is forced to escape their home and seek shelter in a floating theater, where they end up performing a play moominpappa writes (hence the reference to him writing a play.) jasmine mentioned her concern that snufkin gets delayed, and that's pretty much what happens in the original book. snufkin is late by a whole four months because he did not feel ready to return. in the book, it is the first time he meets his sister, little my, when she floats away in a basket and he fishes her out. they wreak havoc on the park together. for the sake of not spoiling the game, I won't say anything about moomintroll's whereabouts or what happens to snufkin from that point on
a few things I have to say in response to the comments you guys made:
relating to price's comment on snufkin's little boots: his heels get taller and taller as time goes on. by the time lars jansson, tove jansson's brother, takes over drawing the comics snufkin has little banana shaped boots with 7 inch heel. it's very funny and cute to me
aenne calling teety-woo "my son" is so in-character for snufkin as he does tend to adopt anything and everything. there is an illustration where he is even swaddling a vase (which tove jansson and her partner stole while on vacation in greece) like a baby
all of the creatures are made up by tove jansson. she was told about trolls as a child to keep her from snacking in the middle of the night, and she later designed the moomins (original called snorks) based on them. sniff's mother looks identical to him while his father is more of a humanoid with really weird feet and long dropping ears like a rabbit. the moomins looking like hippos is the plot of one of the comics where they get kidnapped and placed into a zoo
the moomin characters' ages are not fixed. in the early books they are children and then appear to mature over the course of the series but no ages are ever stated. snufkin does smoke while underage, and they all drink while underage. in the adult comics they seem to be young adults and have adult romances. the 90s anime depicts them as young children and the 2019 adaptation, moominvalley, depicts them as teenagers
snufkin might not be a hobbit, but he does have weird feet inherited from his mother, kind of like monkey feet. they're all black with really long toes and only seen in a few of tove's illustrations and in who will comfort toffle. many people interpret them as being covered in fur, just like his arms
snufkin shares his hatred for parks with his father, whose family has been "at war" with park keepers for a long time

I still remember that the Groke was the reason why I was scared going to the toilet at night.
Groke (or Mårran, the name in Swedish) scared many generations of kids and make many kids afraid of the dark. I can feel it in my bones when the end of the episode was and Mårran appeared and the ground froze) No thanks😅
Whenever the Groke (or Morra as she was called in my language) appeard on screen I cried and hid under my bed. I skipped so many episodes simply because I knew she was in them lol Now I adore her and actually feel sorry for her
@neothelittlemoon1589 She is our soulmate know because she is exactly what it feels sometimes. That the ground get froze and time slows done and you feel alone and that nobody hear you. She is a symbol in so many way.

So glad to see the game has a lot of the charm of the original Moomin stories. I highly recommend checking out Tove Jansson's short stories about the Moomins. They're full of the sort of gentle anarchy that you see in the game, as well as fun and weird creatures, but also more serious topics such as anxiety, but discussed in a gentle way. As far as I know, the creatures were made up by Jansson. She's one of my favorite authors and artists, so I'm really happy to see you play this game, and I hope you continue it!

Since you mentioned wanting to know more about the Moomin and their history, Jessica Kellgren-Fozard made a YT short a few months back talking about how the author of the story was queer. So a fun fact you may appreciate.
I hope the Stump gang watch the 90's Moomins show someday, maybe for Stumpmas :9 The newest series is great too btw! Just hard t access outside of Europe.

There is a pretty good deep dive video into the history of the Moomins called "The Complete Amateur's Guide to Moomin" by youtuber Henry Kathman, if you really want to learn more about the history of the series.
Personally, I grew up with the 90s animated series (we had them recorded on VHS from airing on TV), and then later with some of the comics/books. Moomins are such a huge part of pride for me, regarding my national identity, and I love them so much, like I legit almost teared up seeing you use "Finnish Cartoon" in the title. There is so much more I could say, little tidbits or facts about the series, but I feel like I might not stop if I start lol.
2:00 omg Aenne please do, it's an amazing series, i read all the books as a kid and i loved it sm i used to carry them everywhere i go lol it's genuinely a good read for adults too, it gets pretty philosophical and has a lot of v good lines
