    I've been using an R5C this past season. Outside of the battery life it's a beast. R6 and r6mkii as my B and C. The mkii doesn't over heat.

    Great video! I use the Lumix S5ii and absolutely love it. Have always used Panasonic because I just love all the features and the actual build and feel of their cameras. My whole wedding kit consists 2 S5ii, 1 S5, and 1 G9. The Lumix G9 is a wildly underrated camera, you can pick them up used these days for 500 bucks and the lenses are super affordable as well.

    Pleasantly surprised to see the FX30 make your list, as your review of it was perhaps a little tepid. Gotta agree with the battery issue: tthe FX30 eats through batteries. I've found its lowlight capabilities to be okay for an asp-c (but certainly not comparable to a full frame).

    I am using the R6 MII and the Fuji X-H2s for photographing and filming weddings. Insane image quality, great battery life, great stabilization. Don't see any need to switch to another system. I think it's interesting that you didn't mention either of these cameras since they are widely used by a lot of filmmakers...

    As a primarily stills photographer, the Nikon Z8 has been a game changer. It works well in all lighting conditions, has great ergonomics, and does amazing video at the flick of a switch. I ended up selling my Panasonic cameras that I used for video, because they were not good for stills with micro-four-thirds sensors. Nikon has a great selection of lenses and Nikon colors are arguably the best in the business. The autofocus works well in all modes. For someone who needs a good video camera for occasional events, the Z8 fits the bill without having to buy an additional video-centric system.

    • @russellwright9961
      @russellwright9961 3 місяці тому

      John, thanks for your insight, I don't yet own the Z8, but really considering it to be a hybrid. There's a market for wedding highlight films in which you could use a camera like the Z8 to capture both stills and video of a wedding day. I agree with you about Nikon lense selection and colors, they are truly hard to beat, the Z mount lenses are amazing! What are your thoughts though of the Z8 as a primary stills photographer as it relates to its autofocus, etc.?

    I have an s3 and I love it. Even with new tech coming out I don’t see a reason to upgrade because of that image and 12,800 slog3 iso. If I pick up another camera it will prob be an A74, but that’s because I’ve been enjoying photos lately and I like having some room to crop. I didn’t realize the fx30 had bad battery, I just assumed it was like my s3. Filming a wedding with an iPhone is brave. I needed a b cam and wanted to try to use mine and it over heated and shut off multiple times.

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  5 місяців тому

      Totally, I mean it really does have everything you need besides built in NDs but that is a subjective stance. The iPhone has come a long way and can still be a great C or D cam to grab another angle in a pinch. Filming all day is BRAVE and I salute those that can pull it off!

    I'm still in a dilemma now whether to go for fx30 or s5ii. Currently using Panasonic g85 and its a beast when i shoot wedding videos especially when I shoot solo. the Panasonic stabilization is a must for me however i kinda prefer sony color looks and variety of their third party lenses but just cant with Sony's amateur stabilization, i dont want the Hussle to use catalyst browse software for each 100 clips. I have never used a vlog pp before on Panasonic because g85 has none of the log profiles not sure if it is similar to sony S log so I can use a variety of luts. And in my country most videographers use sony due to 2nd hand resale value and easy to get 2nd shoot job just in case. Kinda hard to find people using Panasonic but still I cant get away how good Panasonic IBIS.

    So, I absolutely love Sony but starting out I’ve had to budget to be able to afford all of the other pieces of gear. I actually use the zcam e2-m4 and use the zcam e2c as a b cam. I honestly think it’s solid being able to produce great colors and shoot 4K at 60fps and I was able to snag it for only $900. My main negative is it’s not the best in low light, but I’d still recommend it!

    • @WaywardNorth

      Love that! I’ve honestly seen some incredible footage from the ZCam. I need to do more research on all it can do but any system under $1000 that is all you need right out of the box is a steal imo!

      Ayyyy....team ZCam! Running an S6 at the moment and loving the s35 and the footage. The original E2 was pretty good in Low light so not sure why you are finding the m4 less capable. Ive pushed the S6 upwards of 25000 iso and image is still clean. These cameras punch waaaay above their price point as long as you build them out with a few essential components.

    I have a FX30 paired with a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and the Sigma f1.4 trio and I think a second Sony camera would be very helpful for some corporate and even wedding videos...I wish I could afford a FX3 but getting a FX3 would make the investment much higher...I would need at least a 24-70mm f2.8 lens for the FX3...I bring some godox ML60bi lights to most weddings/shoots for sure and I use them even if at lower intensity (for weddings I prefer not to use too lights too much but I do use them)...I think I will get a second FX30 since I have a few more APSC lenses I can use...but I wonder if a FX3 would be INCREDIBLY MUCH better? who has them both and has used them side by side? I have relatively speaking fast lenses for the FX30 (the sigma trio and also the Sigma 18-35mm f1.8 with the sigma adapter). Thanks for any first hand experience

    • @WaywardNorth
      @WaywardNorth  5 місяців тому +1

      The FX30 paired with some APS-C lenses is a great route to take! More affordable and APSC lenses are much cheaper than the Full Frame G Master and some third parties even. It's all in what is going to serve your needs best and really any camera CAN, its just a matter of what matters more to you in regards to specs

      hey man...your videos really bring things into perspective-most of us will not get to be filmmakers or even the best wedding videographers in our own cities, but most of us have a genuine interest in the art and want to grow professionally. Thanks for your videos. A voice of reason for sure. If I can secure some decent video contracts this year I will get a second FX30 for sure. If I get AMAZING contracts that pay good money then I will get the FX3- I'm sure the FX30/3 combo would be fantastic. Even if I also fear that the "perfect" camera could be released right after I buy it!! I also a few purchases I have made over the years that didn't contribute to making me a better videographer-but it's never too late to learn...Thanks for taking the time to share your experiences and knowledge @@WaywardNorth

      @@WaywardNorth That’s understandable. I didn’t know you hadn’t tested it out yet. Your previous videos of the R6 are what ultimately pushed me to the Mark II. It’s great, haven’t had overheating issues. Has a much needed photo/video switch with three custom modes for each side. It’s 4K is down sampled from a 6K sensor. It’s all subjective. A lot of the cameras listed are ones I’ve used or seen great results from other filmmakers using them. There’s no denying Fuji has some incredible cameras. I just haven’t really tested them or seen enough footage to base an opinion on. And any camera you choose today can capture beautiful results. It’s not really a matter of better, just what can serve your workflow and creative itch in a genuine way. ✌️
