- Even at 32 years old, this washer still performs like it was only made yesterday. I put a stop to the vibrations coming from the upper back panel but have yet to figure out what the cause of the squeak during the agitation phase was. Belts probably? Anyhow, it didn't affect the performace at all. I'm very glad to see this machine up and running again and hope to get as many years of trouble free service out of it as I possibly can!
I have the la612 from 1985. Run it every other day. Just now replaced the injector nozzel and sleeve after 37 yrs. I'm 70yrs old. I'm hoping it lasts me out and shows signs of doing it ! I now know why companies makes products to fail. I haven't needed a washing machine going on 37 yrs. ps, I've always used soft water through it. This prevents a lot of problems through out the whole house in my opinion. My bath tub is original from 1963 and the finish still looks new. Soft water my friends. ps. Installer told me never to use the extra load cycle. I have and it is too much water and clothes to churn. I can tell the motor and transmission are working too hard. Baby all your machines. I have a Toro walk behind mower 25 yrs old and still has great compression. change oil and new blade every yr and boom, 25 yrs later still running.
That's my washing machine I miss that washing machine it was a good machine I love the Maytag washing machines the dryers the fridges the dishwashers are really cool and they lasted a long time
How do u turn it on I been trying too I don’t know what to press
Hang on to it and take good care of it for your really blessed
That's my most favorite washer ever.
As a small side note: XN on the serial number is the date code. X is for the year (1989) and N is for the month (July). Being July of 1989, this is probably one of the first orbital transmission Maytag’s, as they made the switch in the summer of 1989. My A482 is XC, or February of 1989, making it the last Helical transmission Maytags. So our Maytags are from the same year, and not too far apart in age!
So your one is only 5 months older than mine, and one of the last to include the pitman transmission. That's pretty cool, and same for me being that my one is one of the first to include the orbital transmission. Glad your machine survived the winter and it's also cool to see the other shark fin in there too. And before I forget to mention it, good luck with your Catalyst as well!
absolutely beautiful machine, and in great condition. They just don't make washers like this anymore! New washers are pitiful
How do u turn it on I been trying too I don’t know what to press
Congrats. I remember when these were new on the showroom floors. I've always liked this generation of Maytag with the timer dials on the right. Also like the early kitchenAid washers that were out at the time this was made.
That must have been something to have seen this generation of Maytag on the showroom floors. It's certainly a privilege for me to even be able to own one of these! Thanks for watching!!!
I'm still using this same model. It's running as we speak, but mine isn't as in good condition and mine needs cleaning. It's an amazing machine for sure.
These washers were built to stand strong even in questionable conditions. They're pretty amazing.
Woooo! Glad to see it’s working well! That vibration is probably just the lid vibrating against the panel. Usually what I do is put a small washcloth or hand towel between the lid and the console to keep the two from vibrating against eachother. The timer sounds identical to the timer on my A482 as well! Very cool!
I knew that you would be happy to see this machine up and running again. The vibrations were definitely coming from the back panels, but because I failed so many times to stop the rattling, I simply took both panels off and that seems to have done the trick. Also, the timer on this one is pretty noisy compared to the Whirlpools timer, but I'm sure that's normal. This is now the second member of my personal collection, and I'm glad to finally have it working again!!!
Also, what are your thoughts on the squeaking during agitation and braking? Could it be the belts, or does something need to be oiled? I have no idea what it is, but it would be great if it was easy to fix.
@@grnappliance7297 are you gonna get a vintage Whirlpool belt drive washer? I love those machines
@@grnappliance7297 The squeaking during breaking is pretty much normal for these machines. I’m not sure what it is but everyone that i’ve used has had some form of noise when braking. As for during agitation, that I have no idea. My A482 makes the same noise and I havent been able to trace it down. I’d think something with the belts, as mine still has the original belts, but other than that I’m not sure. Either that or possibly the brake assembly, as the tubs on these move back and forth quite a bit during agitation. That’s just my best guess, and like I said, My A482 makes the same noise but it hasn’t caused any issues yet. If I figure it out I’ll let you know!
@@DrummerboysWashersAndMore I thought the same thing for the brakes but had no idea what the cause of the squeaking during agitation was. As long as it's nothing that could shorten the lifespan of the machine, I'm more than willing to just leave it alone. Besides, in the week that I've owned it, I've already gotten quite used to the noise and just consider it to be one of the small flaws of this machine. Also, I never knew your A482 made the same noise. I'll have to listen closer for it.
#1 16:34 The stop lug adjustment for the transmission pulley/tub brake is adjusted far too tight. Loosen it up for 1/4" to 3/8" inch free play using light finger pressure. Too tight of an adjustment here will cause the brake to drag. Very high possibility the tub will stop indexing when this is corrected.
#2 The machine is taking too long to get up to speed during the spin cycle. I noticed the pump adjustment appears to be jammed to the right, which is too tight of a setting. The tighter the pump belt adjustment is, the looser the transmission drive belt becomes. Spend some time properly adjusting the pump belt and it'll get up to speed quicker.
Thought i'd tell you, that i am hoping to come across a Maytag Commercial MAT12 or 13 model and take that as part of my collection! Once i have one, i will do videos for sure! It's got the same mechanicals as yours but different bowl and agitator and everything!! 😁😁
That sounds exiting. Good luck with that!
@@grnappliance7297 It's just a hard one, i unfortunately missed out on 2 cos mainly i didn't have space at the time and plus the front panels were off them and i didn't know if the screws were there or not, so i had to turn both of them down, even though i didn't get offered them at the time from my work, but hopefully one will turn up sooner enough! Even if i get one from work and it needs work, depending on what it is, i might be able to do it myself, but anything if it's the brake package/assembly or the transmission, tub seal, i'll have to get someone who knows maytag to help me so i don't stuff it, but if it's belts, motor or anything that i can do easily, i'll just do it myself. I would rather get one from my work over buying one cos if i buy one for say $400 for example and then have to spend money to do a transmission for almost $700, whereas if i get a free one, i can spend as much as i want to get one running when i do get one! Now i am not finding as much smart drives to play with, it's making it a lot easier for me to find a Maytag!! 😁😁
@@lukekneebone9831 Most of the time, if a washer is broken it will only cost a dollar to buy, hence making it easy to spend money on repairs. But if it does cost 400, chances are the machine is in tip-top condition and won't need anything. Otherwise, that's just a rip-off.
@@grnappliance7297 Mainly cos i have seen a few been listed for a huge price and they say it's faulty which sorta makes me think hmmm!
@@lukekneebone9831 Yeah, you will get those every once in a while. I once spent 90 dollars on a washer and had to repair it. But I usually just get the dollar ones and fix them as I please. Most times it's a cheap fix anyways.
Amazing!
Awesome to finally see this working, when will you have the Aquasmart working?
I won't be able to fix it anytime soon. I was recently informed that I'm not certified under the Electricity Act to be doing the work that I do. Unless I can get an electrician to look over my work, it could be a while until I can start selling appliances again.
@@grnappliance7297 That’s a bummer, I’m sorry to hear that.
If the water level was infinite then that thing old overflow…
Mine is from 1988 and I am noticing water on the floor. Replace or fix?
I recommend fixing it if you have the time. It could be as simple as tightening the water hoses or something like that. But if the leak is coming from the main tub seal, you'll need to do a bit more work to fix that ua-cam.com/video/8JStapjDnJ0/v-deo.html. Just remember that these washers are quite unbreakable, so if you do try fixing it, you're guaranteed many more years with it compared to a newer washer.
@@grnappliance7297 Thank you so much!
Hi, where can I buy the belt online?
Hi. Thank you for asking me this question. Sadly though, I’m not gonna be able to answer it for you, as I’ve never had to replace any belts for this machine, and I am located in New Zealand where parts for any US machines are hard to source. I do however know someone that might be able to help you. He has a channel called Drummerboys Washers And More. If you look him up and comment on one of his videos, I’m sure he’ll be able to help you out. Thanks for asking though, and I’m sorry again that I couldn’t give you the answer directly.
Doesn't seem to be running as smooth as they normally do, maybe there's a break in period for it.
I stopped the vibration, but not the squeak. Hopefully, there's a break-in period for that.
