Aloha ! I was born and raised in Hawaii, happy to see you travel there! A gentle correction: Hawaii was never part of the British empire! The Union jack "commemorates the British Royal Navy's historical relations with the Kingdom of Hawaii, and in particular the pro-British sentiment of its first ruler, King Kamehameha I." The Hawaiian Kingdom had a lovely relationship with Great Britain and showed it in the flag. Love your work! Love your videos! I hope you had a lovely time in my home state. Aloha!
Not only wasn’t Hawaii never officially a part of the British Empire but the British Government recognized Hawaii as its own independent nation in the 1840s after supposedly a British person who landed in Hawaii claimed Hawaii as a part of the British Empire by saying they claimed it for the queen. However just because an individual claimed an area as a part of an empire in the mid 19th century doesn’t mean it was ever officially a part of a particular empire. Especially if the government doesn’t need the area in the first place. Hawaii is a great example of that. So after six months of negotiations the British Government formerly recognized Hawaii as an independent nation. I don’t know how true most of this story is but that’s what I heard anyway so take this with a very large grain of salt. And as Tory Belleci once said on MythBusters, “Just because it’s written doesn’t mean it’s true.”
Love that the clocks in the Priority Pass lounge were all showing different, incorrect times. The flight looked lovely, though, and I'll add it to my aviation bucket list!
Great video Paul! I loved this one! It really seems with the new Business/First Suites on Hawaiian 🌺 coupled with the all new B787-9 that they’re really stepping up their game and I cannot wait to fly on it with Hawaiian Airlines someday soon! Cheers 🥂 mate! Caleb’s Aviation 😊
Love the video! I remember we went to Honolulu several years back and found a beach bar that specialized in a variety of mai tais, variations on the main theme etc. That was a very fun night and painful next morning
What a great video! Hope your time there was as fantastic - even a bad time in Hawaii is better than anywhere else in the world. I hope to go again soon :)
Paul , I love your travel videos. Please keep them coming. One question, do you ever video record your time in these paradises you visit outside the airports, like beaches and sites ? I’d love to see them . Best, Jim
You’re right and that’s because it is. On an international route this would be sold as Business class. American carriers call their domestic Business class “First class”
I think I’ve been spoilt living in Asia for the last couple of decades, but that’s basically a Business Class seat, with average meals and no lounge access. That said, I’ve haven’t flown business or first class in the US in more than a decade, so this might be top tier there for all I know 😆 As always, thanks for taking us along on your journeys and opening our eyes to what’s available around the world - on more than one occasion, I’ve chosen airlines based on your reviews 👌
It is essentially a business class product. However for US domestic flights they’re coded as domestic first. It’s not intended to be comparable to an international first class product.
That’s amazing Paul! I flew on Hawaiian for the first time back in January/February this year but it was before the 787 took debut. I was on an A330 from LAX-OGG, a B717 from OGG-KOA and back to OGG and then from there on another A330 back to LAX. It’s amazing that they are a U.S. Carrier to still serve you a hot sandwich for free in economy!
Excited to see you travel out of Phoenix! While our airport isn't as luxurious as some others, I hope it was convenient and friendly! Love the videos Paul.
Nice to see Hawaiian Airlines and its new Dreamliner, let’s hope the Alaska Airlines group don’t get rid of that awesome livery. Btw did you fly on one of their B717?
The human faces on the Hawaiian and Alaskan tail fins are of a similar design suggesting some kind of connection between the two airlines although not the climates of the two states ,tropical vs polar!I don't think that Hawaii was ever part of the British Empire but they certainly had dealings with it and Captain Cook was killed there with another polar connection although Antarctic rather than Artic since Cook and his crew seem to have been the first known humans to cross the Antarctic Circle although they didn't land on the continent .
Travel is hell but someone has to do it so we don't have to. All that roughing it in first class I'm surprised your body clock hasn't shut down in protest. 😀
I've only flown HA on inter-island flights - the premier class product on their widebodies looks quite decent and loads better than anything AA, DL or UA offer on their Hawaii flights. I would have gone for the frittata - those pancakes look like more carbs and sugar than I'm used to in the morning. I see it unlikely that the HA/AS merger will be approved. The USDOT seems to be anti-merger these days, and if it killed B6/NK then it'll likely kill HA/AS. That'll be just as well, because if the merger were to go through and Alaska's management takes over then the widebody flights between Hawaii and the western US would likely be replaced with A321s and 737s with an inferior product and flights to the central and eastern US would likely be axed in favour of routing pax through AS's hubs in SEA, SFO and LAX. The A330s would likely be disposed of and the 789's used only for international flights to the Far East and Australia.
I'll never understand American class names. It's first class, but there's no lounge access, and on any other airline, that would be a business class seat. Mind you, that's still better than the premium economy seats that many airlines there advertise as domestic first. Then again, American domestic first is way better than European short haul business, which is just an economy seat. It seems you only get an accurate class description on international long haul, regardless of airline.
Hi Paul Are you able to convince Hawaiian Airlines to serve a vegetarian meal option for economy fliers to the islands from the mainland? They have two choices only for economy fliers, sausage pizza or sausage sandwich. If they could serve cheese pizza instead that would be amazing
My heart sank when you stepped on that dreadful piece of equipment but thankfully, they unlocked those damn windows. An absolute blessing not to have Wi-Fi onboard, I treasure the times where I’m not obliged to be connected or contactable & can simply gaze out of the window in wonder… drink in hand, obvs.
Hawaii was never part of the British Empire but had lot's of dealing with it when a sovereign nation. It seems they just quite liked Britain and stuck the Union Jack on theirs.
That is not a proper first class. USA carriers on domestic routes seem to have a strange definition of first class. That sort of first is not even on the same ballpark as a Emirates or Qatar Airways first class.
Have travelled Hawaiian several times and impressed. Unfortunately will not use them again now they changed the A330s for 787s. I no longer trust Boeing and have had some 787 flights but have never found the dream.
cabin looks nice. i agree the doors are so unnecessary. take away space and add weight to the plane. airlines should do away with those. if you need so much privacy when flying then you should fly private. decent headphones or earplugs is all you need to fly peacefully.
I was not truly impressed. Cabin looks great. Seat mixed feelings about it, that rattling door....... during a return flight to the mainland...... Food: looked average, sure it tasted good but for a first class ticket .... Loo: average US commercial carrier, nothing special about it Wifi or lack of it: well....... Crew: Did not see them smile once.... this is not good at all. I wouldn't go out of my way to fly this airline.
as much as i like to watch your videos, my only downside to them is that you like all you vlogers paly te backround music way to loud, not aure why you all do this but for me as soon as i hear the music start i turn the video off, it is called backround music for a reason maybe you vlogers are not sure about that concept , so please so that i can watch more content for you tone down the music

I wish us Brits could get to live in Hawaii purely based on out flag being on your flag 😂😂
6:58 God bless that guy working in the Phoenix heat
Love that the clocks in the Priority Pass lounge were all showing different, incorrect times.
The flight looked lovely, though, and I'll add it to my aviation bucket list!
I wondered if anyone would spot the clock times!
I appreciated the irony of the ALASKA Airlines 737 awaiting takeoff as the 787 was landing at HNL.
The HNL-ANC route is on my bucket list
New Paul Lucas let's go!
Love the shirt holding the salt and pepper! Very clever, great marketing tool!
Haven’t seen your vids in a while paul glad to see you’re still uploading
Thank you for sharing your trip here to paradise.😊
Great video Paul! I loved this one! It really seems with the new Business/First Suites on Hawaiian 🌺 coupled with the all new B787-9 that they’re really stepping up their game and I cannot wait to fly on it with Hawaiian Airlines someday soon!
Cheers 🥂 mate!
Caleb’s Aviation 😊
Father Todd Unctious, aka Gerald McSorley. What a legend. Glad to learn your Dad went to school with him.
I didn't think Mrs Doyle would ever get it 😅
I see you coordinated your outfit with the livery.
Love the video! I remember we went to Honolulu several years back and found a beach bar that specialized in a variety of mai tais, variations on the main theme etc. That was a very fun night and painful next morning
I wasn't planning it, but I might need to add this to my next vacation.
I thought that was a great flight. Bollocks about the door. Thanks Paul.😊😊
Always a treat to find one of your videos.
What a great video! Hope your time there was as fantastic - even a bad time in Hawaii is better than anywhere else in the world. I hope to go again soon :)

This looks more business class than first.

It still looks nice. I've had worse.
Nice flight! Great seat and meal!
Thanks Paul👌🥰👍
What a great product and even better video!!!
Excellent trip report Paul!!!

Great flight.
Lovely place Honolulu, only been there once and that was almost 33 years ago now, just days after Hurricane Iniki!
Beautiful Cabin.Great Video And Info

Very nice, ty !
Great video Paul. Hope you were able to buy the Kona Coffee pack while u were there in Hawaii.
Thank you for sharing your trip here.😊
That lounge ain't worth $40, in fact it looks damn gross, awesome Hawaiian Airlines flight report there Paul✈👍
I fly Hawaiian from San Jose to Maui frequently on the the A321 neo in First Class. Swift flight, great Starlink & fabulous crew.
I just finished a flight to Honolulu in flight simulator this morning :)
Love your videos, so entertaining and I could watch them for hours - really cool! Oh and give you lens a bit of a wipe clean sometimes! 😊
Starlink wi-fi is now on all A321neos, as well as most A332s. The Dreamliners are next.
Mahalo for flying Hawaiian, Paul!
Excellent 🌴 🏝 ☀️ 🍹! Another great video.
Thank you Paul
Brilliant video!! Never knew about Hawaii being part of the British Empire though.
Hope all is well, take care
Excited to see you travel out of Phoenix! While our airport isn't as luxurious as some others, I hope it was convenient and friendly!
Love the videos Paul.
First class domestic doesn’t have lounge access. Now, some fares do on certain airlines
The art gallery was open 😉
Great video, Paul. Hope you enjoyed your time in Hawaii. That looked like a solid product (door notwithstanding! 😜)
It’s been a while since you posted Paul…..I’m missing my armchair travels :)
Another great video, Paul, thank you! 🙂 However the footage from the GoPro thing is realy poor. 😞
Next time, you need to fly out of Terminal 4 at PHX because the 2 terminals differ greatly from each other
Hawai'i was never part of the British Empire, but otherwise another excellent video sir!
Nice to see Hawaiian Airlines and its new Dreamliner, let’s hope the Alaska Airlines group don’t get rid of that awesome livery.
Btw did you fly on one of their B717?
Yuzu anything is outstanding!
Sweet!

You got a great deal. Prices I’ve seen are much higher
Hey Paul ❤ 😊
Mahalo.
That lounge and food, let alone the price to enter 😮🙀🥺🩷🇺🇸
Travel is hell but someone has to do it so we don't have to. All that roughing it in first class I'm surprised your body clock hasn't shut down in protest. 😀
Some people have all the luck! I want to go to Honolulu.
I've only flown HA on inter-island flights - the premier class product on their widebodies looks quite decent and loads better than anything AA, DL or UA offer on their Hawaii flights. I would have gone for the frittata - those pancakes look like more carbs and sugar than I'm used to in the morning.

Paul … I always thought you were handsome , but you looked extra handsome in that vpn add
I'm from Canada. and I have been to Hawaii and Arizona. No amenity kit?
you gotta start cleaning your camera lenses Paul!
Mai Tai and Pancakes for me please.
What is the WW2 era aircraft carrier on display in Pearl Harbor?
May I ask why you chose seat 1A? I'll be flying solo to HNL from LAX on the same sort of aircraft. Thanks!
This seat is the exact same as Qatar Airways Suite 2, the one which can be found on 787-9. They are a bit too narrow for my liking
Paul when booking your flights, what sites do you use. Going to Hawaii in April 2025. So any info would be great thanks
This looks a lot like the same seat as QR has on their 787-9, just different polish.
Interesting that they have single seats to Hawaii. More of a couples destination. Surprised it isn't all 2-2 seating
Hi Paul, or as they say in Hawaii... "hola"! 😁
British empire?! Bookem’ Dano!
Paul, strongly suggest you to wipe your camera lens lol
I'll never understand American class names. It's first class, but there's no lounge access, and on any other airline, that would be a business class seat.

It seems you only get an accurate class description on international long haul, regardless of airline.
❤❤❤❤❤
just as a fun fact,Hawaii was never a British colony,it is just the king of Hawaii find the union jack cool and put it on their flag.
Hi Paul
Are you able to convince Hawaiian Airlines to serve a vegetarian meal option for economy fliers to the islands from the mainland?
They have two choices only for economy fliers, sausage pizza or sausage sandwich. If they could serve cheese pizza instead that would be amazing
Better known as Father Todd Unctious to the masses
You got married?! Congrats!!
Make sure you have travel insurance.
Still not a fan of seat in aisle or seats angled so your neighbor spies on u even with a closing door
Reminds me of or New Zealand
My heart sank when you stepped on that dreadful piece of equipment but thankfully, they unlocked those damn windows. An absolute blessing not to have Wi-Fi onboard, I treasure the times where I’m not obliged to be connected or contactable & can simply gaze out of the window in wonder… drink in hand, obvs.
Why do American airlines badge products that are clearly business class as first class?
It is NOT first call, it's a business class!
Hawaii was never part of the British Empire but had lot's of dealing with it when a sovereign nation. It seems they just quite liked Britain and stuck the Union Jack on theirs.
Your dad went to school with Father Todd Unctious?!
He did!
Why is the camera always smudged, dirty and blurry?
That is not a proper first class. USA carriers on domestic routes seem to have a strange definition of first class. That sort of first is not even on the same ballpark as a Emirates or Qatar Airways first class.
It’s a proper domestic first class. They aren’t competing with Emirates or Qatar Airways, so why even mention them?
Have travelled Hawaiian several times and impressed. Unfortunately will not use them again now they changed the A330s for 787s. I no longer trust Boeing and have had some 787 flights but have never found the dream.
That’s business class NOT first class as almost every bloody American airline says!
First!
cabin looks nice.

Please say croissant properly paul.. you're not American... you're better than croiosssaannt
haha...Paul's one of us now. I think the Amtrak trips won him over.
Ummm did someone get married??? 🙂🙂🙂
I was not truly impressed.
Cabin looks great. Seat mixed feelings about it, that rattling door....... during a return flight to the mainland......
Food: looked average, sure it tasted good but for a first class ticket ....
Loo: average US commercial carrier, nothing special about it
Wifi or lack of it: well.......
Crew: Did not see them smile once.... this is not good at all.
I wouldn't go out of my way to fly this airline.
To my mind, this is not worth being called "FIRST CLASS". It's an average "BUSINESS CLASS".
Really not first class that.
Please stop pandering to the US market and say croissant correctly! As you were
Go coach. We cannot all afford first. No.lounge boo hoo.
as much as i like to watch your videos, my only downside to them is that you like all you vlogers paly te backround music way to loud, not aure why you all do this but for me as soon as i hear the music start i turn the video off, it is called backround music for a reason maybe you vlogers are not sure about that concept , so please so that i can watch more content for you tone down the music
Total waste of money first class on such a short flight
Awesome flight.
