Sometimes, just sometimes, giving the YT algorithm its head produces a glorious treat. This was one of those times. Powerful voice + fluid, precise playing + beguiling tune = absolute treat. I raise my hat, sir
Beautifully done- I stumbled across Daoiri Farrell’s version some years ago, and it inspired me to add an Irish bouzouki to my herd of stringed things. Ever since then I’ve been trying with minimal success to put together something which sounds even vaguely like it. Your rendition is not only head and shoulders above any of the covers or lesson videos I’ve been able to find out there, it’s also more like the original Daoiri recording than any subsequent recording I could find which he has done himself, and both of your hands are visible throughout- thanks so much. My flat picking skills are subpar at best, so I’m about 99.87% sure I’ll never master that metronomic crosspicking meets strum pattern which you and Daoiri have going on, but I’m having some success with a sort of banjo roll/travis picking technique- probably not quite loud enough to cut through and be heard in an acoustic trad jam, and gives things a bit of a different flavour than flat picking, but I’m having fun picking away in my basement at home. Thanks again for this.
@MrPendell, thanks for listening and for your note! Much the same for me, I felt left out seeing Daoirí's and Andy Irvine's playing on UA-cam, and snapped up this octave when I saw it in the store so I could get in on the action :). I play some Jethro Tull on Guitar; Ian Anderson has a kind of half strum / half flat picking style in his acoustic playing which I think helped me to get the pattern under my fingers. That's awesome you're learning too-these are fun songs to play; continue playing and always enjoy!
What a fantastic rendition -- great playing!! 🎶🍀 I'm not sure I'll ever understand how you and Daoirí manage that ridiculous alternate picking, haha. Keep up the good work!
Great rendition! A song with thirteen verses requires variations and small surprises, and you bring lots and lots. I especially enjoy the phrase "pedigree greyhounds"

Holy moly balls. Incredible job, incredible singing. I never not ever comment on UA-cam but for this I had to.
Haha hey I appreciate that. Thanks for listening.
