I think that sign language should be learned in schools. This would be such a good change to society.
it is taught is some schools but not all. some schools can also have it as an optional class
We can chose it as a foreign language
Andréy it’s learned in my school not yours?
@@riley1597 nope =( I'm from Russia..
Andréy oh ok
I’m deaf so I have to put on the captions and great video your awesome
Hailey Nucera I feel you. Btw I can talk 2 u in ASL if I know it as well as I do (no offense, even tho I'm hearing) if u want, just saying
Hailey Nucera I want to learn it so bad
Hailey Nucera I only know abc’s lol 😂
My mom has a cousin that is deaf so I have been learning sign language
I'm trying to learn asl to be an interpreter
Honestly if all her Sunday videos were ASL that would be so great, I'm trying to learn more and I'm obsessed with it
The Paige Account I am too!
The Paige Account hi, I understand you want to learn asl, I have been learning since I was 6 because multiple of my family members are deaf, so I have to know how to communicate with them, it's a really fun language and there are many classes around the world and even many UA-cam videos to help you!
Same! None of my friends know it, so it's funny when I do it to them
The Paige Account same omg
The Paige Account the daily sign makes tutorials on how to sign songs, and has a few other informational videos about it! you should def check out her videos
Being someone who is fluent in ASL, I'm highly impressed with Rachel, it's so cool that she knows all of this
I learned a lot of ASL through Switched At Birth 😊
Mijke Oudshoorn haha 😂 I learned some to
Mijke Oudshoorn Same
Mijke Oudshoorn same I loved switched at birth
Aaliyah Flores me too
same
Please do more ASL videos. You make it interesting and grab our attention because you're so animated and not boring and dull
True!!! All the other ones ar like "And this is the sign for book" and do it with NO animation.
Completely agree. My step mother is deaf and I'm trying to learn more and she makes it very interesting. I love this tutorial.
lowkeyxjaida who was being rude about her channel??? You’re very delusional.😂👌🏻
I wouldn’t trust her as a primary source...a few of her signs are wrong 😬
Hahaha when she signed “meet” she actually signed “date” and if you signed it the way she said you would actually be signing like nice to date you instead of nice to meet you. Meet would be with a 1 handshape instead of a D handshape
Cece Austin lol I was gonna say that
Yeah I noticed that😂 she’s rusty tho and it’s similar so it happens
Switch at birth anyone..?
Tuananh Nguyen yasss
Tuananh Nguyen yes queeeeen
what dose switched at birth mean? no offense to any one
E. Russell The actual term “switched at birth” means that at birth, most likely in the hospital, two babies were switched, so one family took home another family’s baby and vice versa. Most switches happen due to an error at a hospital. What the people above are talking about though is a tv show about two girls who were switched at birth. One of the switched daughters, Daphne is deaf, hence all the people talking about switched at birth on an asl video. If you want to watch the show I’d highly recommend it, you can find it on Netflix if you have it
Me 😂
Fun fact: my brother was born with Down syndrome, we thought he was deaf bc he failed his first 3 hearing tests. Sooo I learned sign language for him. Then in kindergarten I met my bff who was deaf. So I’m fluent in sign language!!
Fun fact #2: you CANNOT give yourself a name sign, a deaf/hard of hearing person HAS to do it!!
Aunah Hunter if your not actually going to communicate with a deaf person (like how she was saying you can use it to talk secretly in class) than I think it would be ok to give yourself a sign name.
Anyone who uses ASL as their primary, which can also be mute people, not just deaf people, can do it for you. A lot of people forget that many mute and deaf people live hand in hand in community despite differences.
Mine is k (hitting k on the cheek)
You can give yourself a name if you want to, it is a stupid rule.
@@haizemahal7815 agreed
One that is important is that if you are hearing, you CANNOT give yourself (or anyone for that matter) a name sign. In simplest terms, it is a "rule" that only a deaf individual can give you a
name sign. They understand your personality from a different perspective, and they likely also know others' name signs in the local Deaf community. So, all of that being said, unless a deaf individual has given you a name sign, just go ahead and fingerspell your name. It's not like everyone will automatically know your name sign anyways.
Yes! Thank you! I've been studying ASL for four years now and when she said that I was NOOO that's not true you can't just do that!!!
Jenna Poole, She said her brother ( who is/was hard of hearing) gave her the name. I'm not saying it's alright to give someone a sign name if you can hear, I'm just clarifying:)
Her brother was not part of the Deaf community though. The key here is the uppercase D, that means that that person is involved in the culture and community of Deaf people who sign across the nation. Her brother, from what she described, was deaf with a little d. The only people who can give name signs are those who are Deaf :)
Madi B I'm hearing but my uncle is deaf and he has allways told me that either deaf or
Deaf people can give sign names.
P.s. This could just be a difference in the area we live in (I live in the south)
Stephen Cottman Yes maybe different over there. Tends to only be given by a member of the Deaf community because deaf people rarely even learn to sign. They don't consider themselves a part of Deaf culture or community.
I'm trying to teach myself ASL and it's so cool to learn from one of my idols😍
And it's so much fun to sign to my friends in class😂(even though people think we're insane)
Me too 😍✨
Isabella Durso I know fluent ASL and it's totally worth it it might get hard but you will fall in love with it I promise 😊
Isabella Durso same!
same rachel and thedailysign are my idiols
I just wanted to say that only deaf people can give hearing people sign names. I’m hearing and I can’t give someone a sign name. It’s a really big rule so just wanted to tell you all:) and also Rachel signed the word date not meet. Date is with the sign for D and meet is signed with closed fists:) great video as always though! Love Rachel’s channel!!!
Natalee Wagner and you never ask for them either! It’s rude and offensive. I actually was told a story from a deaf friend saying of how someone was asking for a sign name.
Ashley Hasimovic yea you never ask for one. That’s another rule
@@SARAH-ry2nh if you're still interested from what I know is it's because of the Deaf community. A sign name means you're part of the community and they talk about you when you're gone and they want to talk about you easier(not in a gossipy way in a "oh where is *name*". Its also a big part of Deaf culture and a lot of the time they describe an aspect about you
It’s also acceptable for a CODA to give a sign name, basically anybody in the deaf community. A friend of mine in high school was a CODA with a cochlear implant and he gave me my sign name as a birthday present ☺️ it’s a D next to the temple to represent my stubbornness
As a hearing person learning sign language, can I give another hearing person also learning it a sign name?
By the way, you can't give yourself a sign name. You have to be friends with a deaf person, and they have to give it to you. Even if they sign, but are hearing, the name isn't valid.
My ASL teacher gave me a sign name and she's not deaf, but she did say you have to be either deaf or fluent in ASL.
what I was taught in asl class is that the Deaf community has to give a sign, and it's respectful not to give yourself one, or a hearing person give one.
Bea LlamaLove yea that's what I was going to say, I agree you can't give yourself a name sign. Some deaf people might consider it impolite. It is just tradition deaf people give name signs
i have a question so since this is the case is it different for each deaf person you come across or can it be the same after one person gives you one?
Just A Girl's Point Of View It can be the same. I've had the same sign name since 6th grade
When you already are fluent in asl but you want to give Rachel the views 😂
Yassss. But I'm not 100% fluent
Grace Friend SAME!!!! I consider myself fluent but you can always know more!
Rachel Lynn same hard of hearing
Rachel Lynn Same!!😂
Rachel Lynn 😂 same. I'm not totally fluent, but, I know a lot! It's just I love Rachel and her videos.
who else thinks she deserves 10,000,000 subs
ABBA Fan well yeah she does
ABBA Fan
hecka funny
If you want the best program for learning sign language then go here now: HootSign.info
Deaf culture is amazing! I've taught myself sign language for the past 7 years and just last year, i met my best friend who is deaf. I didn't think I would ever use it with anyone except my stepmom when we signed across the store but it did prove to be very useful.
My friend's name is Gabby and today is her birthday! She's 18!
I dont know why I'm watching this I already know sign language but I love her too much not to

Kawaii Stuff American language sign XD
Kawaii Stuff als the disease????
Please do more ASL videos!
"Who ate my food?!" Got me dying😂
After tests, my friends and I actually sign to each other because we aren’t allowed to talk 😂
Please make more ALS videos ! It was very easy to learn from you. It has always been a goal of mine but I never pursued it. But watching Rachel do it is more fun and easier to understand, especially when you give real real word examples "where's the food?" And ways to remember the signs "you take the knowledge from a book and put it in your brain" ❤️😂
I'm an Interpreter for The Deaf in Texas. What she did not explain about sign names is you have to be given your sign name by a leader in the deaf community. You cannot make up your own sign name and it cannot be given to you by just anyone. The deaf leader in the community takes at least 1 or more years to learn about you, they take their time and really get to know you before deciding on your sign name. It could be from what color your eyes are, how long your hair is added with your initial, some birth mark or a character or moral values you have. My sign name is a D in a upsweep at my ♥ given to me after 2 years from my Professor in ASL who is also the main leader in our deaf community. I asked him why this name? He said ( he is deaf) because you have the biggest ♥ of anyone I've ever known in my 40 years, you are kind to everyone you meet and would give them everything you own". Such a great compliment, I was humbled and honored to receive it.
you should do more sign language videos! I love your way of teaching
who agrees?
ButOfCourse I agree
I agree
Yes I want to learn so bad
ButOfCourse it IS amazing. I mean, if she does it it has to be awesome, right
I already know ASL but I'm watching anyways 😆

Kaitlyn Foust same😂
Kaitlyn Foust same
there is a deaf person at my school in my grade and shes just a sweet heart! she has a cochlear implant but sometimes she still cant understand thanks for your video!!!
Holy cow the way u explain the signs helps so much to relate and remember the signs. Soooo helpful but video I've seen so far
I was at the store and saw a man and a woman communicating in sign language. I was watching them. But then they saw me. And I guess they didn't know that I knew some sign language and they started talking about me. Signing stuff like "the girl in the gray sweatshirt is looking at you." And I was the only one around wearing a gray sweatshirt.
Omg lol my mom was standing behind a family of people signing to eachother they don't know any sign my mom only a bit not much I wonder if they said anything lol
No shit they started talking about you, you were staring directly at them which is kinda rude.
Madison Tharp I hate when people do that, I was recently at a deaf camping site (it was for awareness and charity for the deaf community) and there was snobby girls who WERENT deaf but had aunts or uncles deaf so the knew asl and I saw them signing (they didn’t know I know asl) and were talking about me and my friend so rudely like “why are they even here? They’re not deaf?” I went with my family and mom’s friends family who has some deaf people, same with my family, I just found it very rude
I WISH I KNEW MORE SIGN LANGUAGE, since I work with people who have special needs and people who are hard of hearing, it's pretty fun and amazing to get to communicate with them with it, a lot more people should learn it!
Lindsay Mohrmann awww... that is so nice of you. my step mom did something similar to that
Awesomness101 S thanks! I want to be a teacher for those who have special needs, so I think it's really important to know sign!!
Same! The kids I work with don't really use sign language, but we use "sit" and "do your work" and it was really cool getting to at least learn two things in ASL that most people don't know
Georgia Rose Horan SAME! Aw I love finding people who love the things I do =)
Lindsay Mohrmann hahah omg, i see you everywhere on youtube
Who's just copying Rachel but you realise it's no use to you since you don't live in America? 😂😂😂
Sylvia Pollock me I'm from Ireland imma go try learn the basics of isl
Sylvia Pollock same I'm going to learn the basics of ISL as most of my family are Irish and I count myself Irish and I want to learn BSL as I live in wales (People don't speak Welsh that much in my part of wales) 😂😂😝😝👋🏻👋🏻
Sylvia Pollock Yeah I'm Australian 🇦🇺 and I know zero Auslan 😂
I LOVE on the other side of the globe (Australia) so this wouldn't work
haha me!! I do know a tiny bit of auslan though
"Who ate my food?" and "Where's the food@" was my favorite and the most useful to me.
"Where" has eyebrows up btw. 😊
i know this was made 2 years ago but please do more sign language
Life print has free asl classes and they are really good that's what I use and I've improved a lot in just a few lessons
Katie Jo I’m using lifeprint too! I’m obsessed with learning asl, it’s so fun. Which lesson are you on now?
@@smurchison2 I'm still new but lesson 7! And I already know so much
Katie Jo Ikr? It’s so cool how much you can learn so quickly! I hope you will continue. I started 2 months ago and I almost gave up around lesson 15 because I thought I could never get as good as everyone else who signed so fast, but I decided to keep going and now I’m on lesson 40. :)
@@smurchison2 yes! One day when I'm not busy I want to binge a bunch of lessons
My teacher taught me so we can be more quiet
that's awesome!
I learned a lot of ASL when I was like 2 months old my parent and their parent and their parents and so on used ASL for their children when they were very young and we have been doing that for a LONG time
Anyone who is watching this right now and is learning about sign names...
ONLY A DEAF PERSON CAN GIVE YOU A SIGN NAME!!!!
Just wanted to let you know as this is important as it is their culture.
What's that?
@@Nekotaku_TV a sign name? In ASL, you can fingerspell names as in letter by letter spell it out using the ASL alphabet. Or use and can a sign name which is a sign that takes the place of fingerspelling. Only a deaf person is to give a sign name to a hearing person as is their language and culture
@@Nekotaku_TV it means they do have sign for their names. I'm deaf and I have a sign name. Which is like smiling
How come she can make an entertaining video out of anything. I can have the best video idea and not be half as good as this video :/
Love your vids Rachel
+Miguel Costa I know right?! she makes anything awesome xD
Majestic Maddie :3 IKR I need her powers
Ray Farrell Thank you I guess
Miguel Costa I'm seeing you everywhere!
who needs school just watch Rachel
Love that she's so bubbly!! I just recently got into a relationship with a childhood friend that is partially deaf and I'm eager to learn while I'm away from him. PLEASE MAKE MORE!!!!!
Did you realize she said “not “ in asl at 0:45 lol
I’m observant
It took me 2 videos to learn the basic 30 sign language but with constant pausing and going back.
But I made it👏🏼

Courtney Rains thank u lol
Click the three dots then captions then English or any other option.
Turn on captions
Luna Playz They’re google auto-generated, which is not quite helpful.
I already know it because my friends parents are deaf and I talk to them alot
Edit: And I teach my friends some so we can talk in class
Actually you shouldn't come up with your own sign name, a deaf or hard of hearing person should give you a sign name.
Danielle Clay her brother that was deaf gave it to her
please correct "dead" ._.
+Sharmaine Cameron DEAF not dead..
Danielle Clay ty
Danielle Clay you just tell them your sign name, that what we do around my deaf uncle
I am singing a song in sign language for a winter program, and I am so excited! It is what a wonderful world and somewhere over the rainbow mixed together. It is really fun to practice.
MORE ASL MORE ASL, I LEARNED THE ALPHABET AND I WANT MORE
Olivia Perez I know ASL you should get into it it's fun ☺️
Olivia Perez me and my friends sign across the room in class
Guinea pigs 4 life I've found this video with 100 basic signs, and i'm already halfway through the video, its so easy and fun! I think i'm going to study into fluency!
Olivia Perez TheDailySign. UA-cam her and she'll teach you a lot.

j
hi
Valentine Horn she cant act 😂😂
Valentine Horn it would give away the fact that MIRANDA isn't a real person because in previous miranda videos Rachel is MIRANDAS assistant(as she used to be)
I used to check sign language books out of the library when I was six and seven years old. And in first grade when we would do our little singing shows for parents, we would also sign a lot of the songs because we had several deaf students. I’m 17 now and I cannot believe how much I remember.
My first grade teacher made us sing happy birthday in sign language and I couldn't get it
Please can you make this a series? Please?🙏🏼
Fun fact, you cant give yourself a name sign, a person in the deaf community needs yo give you it.
Melody Ray i knew this from one of my favorite shows. Switched At Birth
Actually, no. You can create it, then just tell every Dead person you meet that that’s your sign name.
Not true, my deaf uncle didn't give me mine..
Melody Ray her brother gave her it
you’re not supposed to make it yourself, a deaf person is supposed to give it to you. I am a deaf studies major, I have been involved with the community for several years and just got mine a few months ago...
I’m hard of hearing, and watching you, Colleen, and everyone else’s videos really made me feel so much more included! Thanks!
I know all the abc's in asl I'm a 12 year old girl I memorized them in one night I worked on it for many hours
niayuq that’s cool, I’m 14 and I know the abcs and I know most basic signs and attempting to pick up on more, I hope you succeed with learning the language!
Pretty much same
Same
I'm 12 and I know the whole alphabet and colours in Isl (Irish sign language) and a couple of phrases it's really fun to learn but I'm trying to learn everything because I can't speak and I'm sick of writing everything down on paper and I don't have paper with me at all time but I do have my hands at all times cuz they're attached to my body lol
Rannj30 yes it is quite different and how long did it take you to learn asl
Can you do more of these??? I am teaching an asl class and these are really helpful!!!!!
What's the music playing in the background at 1:30? Also, I'm also learning ASL and guess what? I'm teaching myself! This is also the 1st video I saw by Rachel and I fell in love with the channel. Thanks, Rachel!!
It’s been 2 years! How’s your sign language now :D
Kainaat Khan Not very good since I’ve searched on yt and only learned the basics 😂
I met 2 people who couldn't speak, since i didn't know sign language we were just writing notes to eachother... It made me want to learn sign language
The thumbnail says "I love you" if you were wondering
In Australia we need two hands to say most things
I'm nearly fluent in ASL Australian sign language
It sounds similar
Cool
Um... if you’re nearly fluent then shouldn’t you know it’s called Auslan??
I think ya mean Auslan. Even Australians call Australian sign language Auslan.
Thank you! I just found out my son has hearing loss, we watched your video and now we know all the signs you taught. Awesome.
This was fantastic. I learnt a bit from school having attended a primary (elementary) school that was 60% disabled children. It was an intervention school where siblings could also go with the disabled sibling. Many of the kids used sign language even if not deaf so I can do the whole ausland alphabet, toilet, please/Thankyou, yes/no, food and one of the girls would always sign p*** off/f*** you so I learnt that from around 6 years old.
Integration **
taz kempf Change your view on deaf people please. They are NOT disabled.
Bea LlamaLove I never said they are! My sister has a disability, she has global intellectual disability. She use to use sign language. Many of the other kids did too. Blindness and deafness are both disabilities under definition. Are the people therefore disadvantage, no not always. Many Down syndrome kids from my primary school, or cerebral palsy, autistic or intellectually impaired children would use it.
This was my point!
taz kempf please don’t say that kids with Down syndrome have a disability. They don’t. My little sister has it and is smarter and more mobile than I was at age two. It took her longer to get there but she still accomplished it. She knows lots of signs and is continuing to learn asl. She is not disabled just slightly challenged. Don’t dis her ability.
Could you make an ASL series???
I'm learning sign language so me and my friend can talk shit about our Exs even when there standing right next to us
This is the most fun language class I ever had in my life 😂😂
Why don't they teach us this type of stuff in school? Teach us how to cook and raise a family and how to survive in the world! Teach us stuff that matters! Who cares about the area of a triangle🙄
Shaytards lyf Lmao this is so true 😂😂
Shaytards lyf lol they teach it T my school
Erin Dermody That's awesome! I don't know how many schools actually do teach it but at my school they don't..(in Australia) Which kind of sucks cause I would love to learn it
Shaytards lyf or the sum of a triangle!!
Let's learn Irish together! (I already speak Irish I just wanna see you try to pronounce Irish words)
Also loving the new couch, good job Colleen 😂👏🏼💜

I'm not deaf or a coda but my two older sisters are H.O.H and my brother in law is deaf, so I've been signing almost my whole life
KittyKat's World koda squad
Grew up with 2 deaf parents
KittyKat's World YEET
KittyKat's World I'm a SODA
I'm not, but my ASL teacher from school is Deaf and I have met a lot of other Deaf people/Kodas
Mice video. Keep doing these they are helpful. A lot of UA-cam channels are not very good so please keep this up.
Omg I’m deaf, I can sign language!
I'm getting pretty fluent in ASL I've only been doing it for about a year 😊
Kylea Johnson I wouldn’t say fluent but really good? Oh And good job!
I've been doing it for 4 years and still aren't fluent how!!!
Lizzie Michaels How would you know? Lmfao don’t start assuming things.
Autumn Day I mean, it’s kinda basic knowledge that it takes years to become fluent in any language...
Sharon Susie No it does not... I lived in Denmark for 3 months and became fluent in the danish language in such a short amount of time. Was it difficult? Yes, I worked my butt off! But it sure wasn’t impossible.
I can sign fluent auslan ( Australian sign language )
I like the way you teach because you make it fun. Helluva sense of humor young lady.
Who else learned sign language from switched at birth
I learned a lot and got interested and I took classes and I’m now fluent
2019 anyone
in deaf culture only deaf person can give you a sign name FYI
Angela P yeah I thought of that when she said that
Angela P ver brother is deaf, he came up with her sign name
ana jnjnced I know but she also said that your friend and give a name sign I saying it tradition that a deaf person should give a name sign
ana jnjnced my point was that I was taught that in deaf culture it tradition that I a deaf person gives you a sign not a friend but you can
Angela P oh, missed that part, Sorry. i dont know much about Deaf culture, do you know what happens If two People happen tô have the same sign name?
I know basic ASL my friend and me learned it over the summer for fun
Im trying to learn asl to impress my crush cuz hes learning asl to
any updates?
I'm trying to learn sign because I think it would be pretty cool and I can talk to my friend without them knowing what I'm saying😂
Please make more ASL videos!!!!!!!!!!!!❤️👏🏽😘
Please do more of these! You make it fun to learn and it’s actually sticking with me!
I'm fluent my parents are both deaf and my stepdad
And btw only a deaf person can give you your sign name
Harley Quinn did she sign date instead of meet?
Ao23 ! at what time in the video?
She sort of did a D shape when signing meet. The rest of her fingers should have been pressed into her palm, but it was close. If she used that sign in conversation, you could probably understand her with context.
No in ASL is the same as 12 in BSL lol
Also our what is quite similar to your where, and our where is quit similar to your what. That's kinda cool.
HannahLouisiana what is BSL?
Gabriela Costa I think it might be brittish sign language
Yeah it's British Sign Language :))
You were right about the signed names except for one thing that you can’t give it to yourself A deaf or. Hard of hearing person Must give it to you
react to rachel ballinger on ellen
nevermind I found the video you made
we need rachel on ellen
+ThatsTWOSimple well she kinda was on one episode 😂
the only sign I know is middle finger
Rude.
Who else is learning this to become mute? Like if so
love your enthusiasm and facial expressions...didn't know different countries sign differently.
I like learning from you because you make it fun and funny. When you say little funny examples it makes it rememberable and it makes more sense!
I'm taking a ASL class and definitely learn the abcs because fingerspelling is gonna be your best friend when your learning
make more please. you make it look SUPER easy, you're an AMAZING teacher
Yes make more!! You make it fun and put sayings and actions with them so they are easy to remember!
I am recently trying to learn Asl on my own. I had a full tracheotomy done for health issues. I really enjoy your energy and enthusiasm. I am hoping that is the trick to keep motivated and learn! So thank you for your videos!🌹
I love this video. I am taking ASL in college and I am so happy that I am able to find videos with basics.
Last night I was hanging out with my boyfriend and he has a friend who is deaf. I felt so upset with myself that I couldn’t communicate with him because I’ve always wanted to learn to sign. This video was SO helpful I can’t wait to try to communicate with him!! Thank you! Please make more videos like this!!
This video kickstarted my interest in ASL, and now I know more then I ever thought I would.
i use alot of ASL in school with my friends when the teacher says be quiet lol
