Thanks for putting this out, and thanks for dropping my name! Your thoughts mirror my own, and I’m glad we have such a great community! I do believe that more, strong content creators are overall good for the game. More content means more excitement and energy around the game, which means more players and eventually that has led to FFG adding more resources to the game. A rising tide lifts all boats. It’s not just about me or you as individuals.
I don't think leaks ruin the game. I think people will still watch reveal videos for the content creators insight as well, despite the leaks. Leaks are also good for the consumer as they allow us to be more informed on the product and let us determine if we want to buy the product or not prior to it releasing.
You are spot on regarding those previous leaks…. Felt great at the time, but then killed the excitement when they finally came out. As the consumer I’ve watched all the release videos in one hit where it would have been nice to have picked these up bit by bit over a week or two. Mostly I feel sorry for the content creators who clearly put there hearts and souls into this and being a numbers man myself I would be upset to see those viewing figures hit by something like this. Looking forward to all the coming content you guys put out. Best wishes!
I dont think it ruins the game or the community. Its a thing since what wave 1? It has always happened eversince. And fans who have time, would still support YTubers for their analysis or for being a real supporter. But its probably best to request for FFG to release the reveals a week early.
Leaks were one thing when FFG had long stretches of radio silence but these creator reveals have been incredible and feel super great for the community.
I hope we get to see greater involvement between creatives of this game and the creatives that help promote it! Watching people like you, villain, nelson, web warrior, daringlime always get me hyped to play! Would love to see a co op play between creators and content creators or anything to bridge the gap!
Even if I'm aware of a leak I just wait for your video I'm not in a hurry for this kind of info what am I gonna do with it without the cards anyway I can wait
Does a leak ruin MC? I think it’s sturdy and will last after such events. Does it take fun out of being a part of the community? Yes. For me, I do not follow MC on social for this exact reason. It is less fun to see a leak. $.02
So there's no putting the toothpaste back in the tube, and sorry to hear your video prep got ruined (I still did watch videos tho). However, I will say this: the movie and videogame industries are finding out boycotts are very real, and if FFG decides to promote something consumers never asked for in their product, a leaker would be a hero who saves people their hard-earned money.
Nah I get that, and I agree there should be previews for sure. I am not even opposed to a complete leak days before (before you pre order or whatever) I think it would just be nice if we wait on complete leaks for a bit closer to the release.
They don't bother me at all. I'm not one of those people that run out and buy mew packs the minute they're released. It'll be months, if ever, that I get them. I'll end up "spoiled" eventually.
Thanks for your perspective and insight into the situation. You made some well supported points. I agree this is an important discussion for the community.
In hindsight, the content creator damage leaks do is really unfair. I feel like we didn't really get much of that in previous cycles. Highlighting that this wounds the content creator hype cycle is more than fair.
Great video, you cover a lot of points differently than I do, and some similar points in a much better fashion. Your reveal was still great. And wherever people stand, even if they disagree with something a creator says such as on this video, I hope they remember there are actual humans behind the screen.
I wonder if the precedent of FFG goving the spoilers to the content creators will put a bigger halt on the spoilers that occur. I got spoiled today because i use Reddit to find the content creator videos that showcase the cards. Im not subscribed to everyone, but i want to encourage the relationship of FFG with the creators. Maybe, now that the last 2 packs have had a lot of spoilers given to crestors, there wont be as much of a call online demanding the full pack to be spoiled by strangers online.
Totally agree that this sucks. It just showed up on Reddit and spoiled me. That took away the choice to find out about new cards beforehand or just wait until I open the pack myself. The point you make about the leaks hurting the hype, the channels and therefore the game's health overall seems very plausible. I hope reddit bans ( or at least forces spoiler Tag and blurred Images etc ) these leaks and punishes leakers. Otherwise it will make reddit unusable for me because I dont want to run into leaks like it is currently the case.
Hi D20, you have all our support. For context, our collection is not up to date at all. We slowly catch up to the current card pool, but we are far away from Nightcrawler and Magneto, both having cards revealed by youtubers/twitcher. Why I don't care that much for "upcoming cards", for "obvious reasons", I really like watching card reveals by youtubers I watch, because it makes feel part of the community, beside my "marginal status". I was not even aware of the leaks, and I really liked your video about that crazy 0 cost basic card lol. And I think the community should calm down with leaks. I understand theory crafting can be exciting, but in the end, as long as you don't own the card, and I'm an expert at "not owning the card" lol, theory is just that. In the end you still need the card, and play it to see how good/fun/powerful/weak it is. If people understand that, then they can wait for cards to be revealed, instead of jumping on any leaks. The rewards is not worth the spoils. Card reveal is about community gathering, more than theory crafting, even though it also is. Leak content is about theory crafting, more than community gathering if at all. I hope this makes sense. I came in peace.
This is a FFG problem. Not a community problem. Appeal to them to fix their distribution process. They're the ones who screwed you. Not the community. Villaintheory's and your video here are divisive and dramatic, whether you meant them to be or not. II'll say the same thing to you I said to VT on his video: I watch and love your content because your takes are unique and your personality makes me want to see what you think not because it's breaking news. Again, the real blame is FFG waiting forever to let you guys reveal cards and screwing up their distribution process so random people are able to get their hands on packs early. But I understand you all being afraid to call them out on that for fear of losing the opportunity of revealing these cards. Then again as you've both said the leaks negatively affect these videos so...my suggestion is call the source out and hold FFG responsible.
This response assumes that leakers have no agency. That they can not make decisions themselves. It also assumes that us as a community can not be against it as well. Should FFG get distribution (which is really an Asmodee problem, and not even them since other people do it internationally for them) sure. You can make that argument and that's fine. You can say FFG should do a longer campaign and let us drip leak this stuff sooner, I think that's a fair argument. Heck, I will be fine for it. I am willing to bet that the distributors that receive this product sign a contract that they will not release this before it is supposed to. I will assume whomever gets early access to any of their stuff signs paperwork (trust me, they do). So they are breaking a contract. They are breaking the rules. Now, the actual leaker may have just received it and never signed anything, ok fine, the blame isn't on them and I am cool with that, but someone gave them the pack. It wasn't FFG doing it and if it was, they signed something then. To say the blame is solely on one company, it's not. Is a large portion of it on them, sure, I am fine with that argument.
@@D20Woodworking It is the SOURCE of the issue. And it is a recurring one. But it's much easier to place the blame on over excited fanboys or brick and mortars that don't fuel traffic. It is up to FFG, if they care (I'd put money down they really don't on a larger scale), to hold those stores accountable. It happening ONCE is a community issue. @@D20Woodworking And I'm not assuming the leakers have no agency. I holding the corporation responsible for their distribution deals and parameters accountable rather than one guy who was excited to share his toys with his friends.
So genuine question, what should FFG do in this case? Sue the stores for breaking contract? Stop the store(s) from being allowed to sell the game then in the future? That doesn't sound good. Go sue the person who leaked it? I would argue that would be terrible. Not ship the game out till right before the street release date? I think the UK would be upset about that since it takes them forever to get some of the hero packs. If you were FFG, how would you fix it?
@@D20Woodworking Yes to your second one, maybe not entirely, but penalize the store a wave at least. It's a regular occurrence in the industry. How many stores do you know of that have the wrong trash cans or chairs so lose WotC licenses for FNM or the like? If a store broke street date with a pokemon set and it was as big a deal as these hero packs are being made out to be with developers even approaching the large discord servers to urge them to stop posting leaks, you better damn well believe that store would be penalized the next set release or lose the license out right. You think these stores are holding their stock for release dates from the good of their heart? They do it because THERE ARE REPERCUSSIONS. So it is up to FFG, and I want to make this point very clearly, IF THEY CARE ABOUT LEAKS, to hold the stores responsible for breaking street date accountable. If they do not care then we as a community can keep blaming each other and they don't have to do anything meaningful other than message some unofficial discord mods to take away a channel that a large portion of that community got a LOT of enjoyment from. That is not meaningful change, its censorship. Its not going to prevent the leak its going move the conversation elsewhere. Again, I genuinely believe that FFG as a company do not care, not enough to make a meaningful change anyway. Half a decade of the same process shows you that hopefully. On that end it probably is up to the community to "end it" but a significant portion of the community, myself included, do not see it as a problem as I'm not fighting leakers for youtube views.
"Now there is literally nothing to look forward to in Magneto". Remember it's a game. You could maybe look forward to playing the game and enjoying it.
Not really, no. :D I do not look at Marvel Champions on Reddit, Facebook or Discord or other platforms because I think spoilers makes it boring. It's fun to speculate and I don't want that part ruined. Also there is a little button that is pressed that pops out some cheese for me when they announce their next hero, I like that cheese and don't want that ruined either. :) This is also the only heavily Marvel Champions focused channel I do watch, there is only so much time to watch UA-cam and I do enjoy discussion videos more than pre-views or hot off the presses. But I also understand that there are some things you do "have" to do on UA-cam to stay afloat beyond a small hobby channel.
Package leaks have always happened and they were NEVER an issue. The "stolage of thunder" is only happening because NOW there are creators receiving exclusive content which they never did before and they're worried this might affect their youtube metrics. Classic.
I mean, it was an issue. I guess we are going to skip the part of the video where it discusses content droughts we had because there was nothing new because all of it was spoiled. Leading to people being upset with the release schedule and rates of information and help contribute to the "The Game is Dead" narrative. But sure.
I've always hated leaks in any industry to be honest. I think they are damaging and the extent of the damage is both overlooked and not understood. A lot of people will fight you on this but at the end of the day once you've seen something you cant unsee it! And thats where the unfairness lies in my opinion. Ok you want to see all the cards at once but i dont, if you dont see any leaks thats not an issue but if someone who doesn't want to see them does thats extremely frustrating. I think we should all be a bit mindful about how others feel about leaks and not try to shout people up by saying 'well what does it matter you can still do x' because thats not the point, the point is they just didnt want to see it and you've took that away from them. I do really hope that all the social media accounts take a united front and cut this stuff from happening. I've seen leaks damage comics, vdieo games and movies to the point that in extreme cases stuff gets cancelled due to backlash over content in the product which they havent even experienced yet. I'm of the opinion that leaks should be shut down as soon as possible.
I agree with content creators taking a stand. I remember a while back a lot of content from Zelda Tears of the Kingdom was dealing with leaks and most (all) content creators said, we are not covering it. It's not fair to the people who work on it, it's not fair to the fans and it's not the right thing to do. And it's something I have in the past year or so been more strong opinioned on. I won't promote it or anything and I hope all/most content creators don't promote the leaks. Obviously some may, and that is their choice and they are allowed to do that, but I know personally I wouldn't write about the leaks.
@D20Woodworking I think people forget that their are real people behind these products. They've gone through an extraordinary amount of effort to not just get these products right but also to keep them secret until the release date or agreed reveals. It must be frustrating and upsetting for the people making these games for us, so I'm happy that you and VT are discussing the issue.
Leaks do suck, they are generally bad for a community, & in a case like that they definitely have an additional negative effect on creators. But I do think it's being exaggerated. As a point of comparison, leaks ABSOLUTELY are ruining the English community for One Piece. No one reads the official translations, which means that errors in the unofficials are taken as fact, and much worse, there are a ton of things not getting translated at all because there isn't a legitimate audience for them. That's not the case here- wave 9 will all be released, leaks or no leaks. The community is worse off, but the game will be just fine.
I do agree that leaks are bad for the community. But I don't agree with your acessment of the effects of leaks. Having your personal card reveals spoiled and waiting too long to make an ffg post reaction video are not comparable. Personally, if i want to see the new cards, Id watch your reveal video regardless of if i saw leaks or not. But if you are making a video going over the hero a week after they are announced, I may not watch it because at that point, I've already seen discussion videos on it from multiple creators
HARD disagree. Controlled leaks is good for marvel champions. Builds hype as you say. Increases sales, etc. Also disagree about your it is bad for content creators. Yes your magneto unboxing might not get as many views, but that is because people watched your leak video. But, keep in mind, there are cards that have not been leaked and won't be leaked that people will watch to find out about. (Aspect, back of the pack, etc ). So it sounds like you get viewers twice. Also content creators are not competing for views on the leaks because they are given different cards. So now a community member has to watch you, villain theory, winning hand, critical encounters, nelson, all. Sounds good for content creators to me. Only point you make that might be accurate is that content creators that did get a leak are hurt by leaks. BUT this should not come from you since you got cards to leak. Again, there are still some new cards. Your Angel 4 days late viewership drop is interesting, but more proves that content creators need to be quick and not an issue with leaks. Again - leaks for content creators are different cards.
Sorry if I sounds like a dush but why does it bother you? It's just images of cards to watch earlier It's not ccg or tcg that you won't know what you will get, the certainty of the pack is always there I see that you and villan complain about it, sure OK, but again I love leaks and will always watch them even for movies to be honest it's just the nature of people to know stuff fast
I get the argument but for some people (anecdotally) they were just perusing Reddit and it popped up and they didn't want anything spoiled. Now, could that be a super small amount, sure. But it's not no one.
This was me. I had no intention of spoiling the deck for myself. My husband and I like playing the decks and learning what cards are in them as we play.
@@D20Woodworkingim not sure how can a reddit post be read unintentionally when the pictures are small to read from afar. So unless that person actually tries to read the cards and the post, then thats on them spoiling themself.
"Are card leaks ruining Marvel Champions?" No. "Are card leaks ruining Marvel Champions Content Creator's chance to make videos and get views/income?" Yes. I understand your frustration, but as content creators you have to learn to pivot. Both you and Villain Theory have made a video about the card leaks. You can also make another video going over all of the spoiled cards and giving your opinion on Magneto as a whole before he releases. You will also do a video on reviewing Magneto and playing him. Even though you got the wind taken out of your sails, it doesn't mean that you can't make more videos. You just have to pivot and make a new video about something else. Also, I don't mind leaks/spoilers. More information is good for players/consumers. I wish that FFG would be more lenient and let content creators spoil cards earlier than when the card was to release. This way the community could look at the cards and discuss everything and then if someone got the cards before the official release date, then everyone would already know what came in the pack.
Well FFG, I don't think, was expecting the entire pack to be leaked 16 days before release date. Could you argue that we should have access to cards a month ahead. Yeah, maybe, but I don't know if that really fixes anything? If we preview cards months ahead, it kinda defeats the purpose of previewing the cards? Maybe not ...
@@D20Woodworking How does it defeat the purpose of previewing the cards? If FFG had let content creators drip feed information to the community, maybe 1 each week, months before the official release then the community would have the information before the product hit shelves. That's the way it should be done, instead of letting a handful of content creators all drop 1-2 new cards 15 days out. They should start the drip feed content sooner.
So let's say you do that. You drip feed months before. I assume you would continue to do that up to a week before it releases? Maybe? Well if you were at the end of that list, you then get screwed by the leaks. They don't know when the leak is coming so you can't really plan around it. Again, there were times leaks happened for hero packs a year in advanced. You can't slow drip that. I get the argument of it should have been done sooner and I don't disagree. But you don't exactly plan for when a leak is going to happen.
I saw the post and looked at the first image. I closed it pretty quickly afterwards though as I realized that it is simply more fun to have the slow drip of cards than to see it all at once. I watched your reveal this morning and enjoyed it and am looking forward to Nelson’s later on. I don’t know how to fix the leaks, but I for one am glad that the groups are starting to police it a bit. It makes the reveal moments last longer and increases the hype. Just my two cents…
I’m glad to get spoilers wherever they are from. I don’t like that it causes issues with my fav content creators. I know those things won’t ever mesh. Until FFG/Asmodee can guarantee that I can get my copy on release date (I never have, even when shipped directly from FFG), someone is always going to get it and post it before I can get my hands on it. I dont know if there is a good “time frame” for how many days ahead of time is good (or bad) If I don’t want to see spoilers, I try to mute/leave the channels in which I usually get that info from. That’s way more prevalent for shows and games of course. Honestly I wouldn’t have even known about the spoilers until VT video. I’d be interested to see what kind of numbers this video (and VTs spoiler video) get as a comparison to preview videos.
@ if you find the time feel free to do that. But I’ll say similar to you what I said on VTs channel, even if we don’t agree completely, I still think you are a positive force in this community and I appreciate you!
The saddest part for me was your disappointment of missing this very first opportunity of revealing those cards. I feel you man, still watching your videos. You're my favorite German Solo Player , D20 Vwuddvvorking 😂💪🏻
Card games all have reveals... Ashes Reborn, Flesh and Blood, Magic, Star Wars Unlimited, etc. If you don't want cards spoiled, just don't watch. For other people the previews are great and build hype and excitement for upcoming releases. Now... LEAKS, those suck. Those have happened in FAB as well and it screws over the content creators and its terrible. Legend Story Studios that makes FAB finally has the leaks under control and the organized previews are great and build the hype. Fantasy Flight needs to figure that out now, seems that SWU doesn't get leaked but for some reason MC always has leaks.
You're right about SWU (or I have my head in the sand) it would be interesting if they could figure it out from that department how to button things up.
Came back to edit my comment cuz I sometimes forget sarcasm doesn't translate well to YT comments. I don't actually wish ill will on anyone, especially over a card game, but I am firmly on team don't spoil things. For the two main reasons: 1) it steals the thunder from the creator reveals and B) it takes away from the hype, which is super valuable for keeping us engaged/interested between releases. I'm not too exposed to the places where they get spoiled anyways but it socks for people who are and unintentionally see things, and it sucks more for the creators. Hopefully, that conveys my opinion in a better way, Namaste 🙏🏾😎🙏🏾
“Im going to do what I do best and steal the thunder from someone else” is an incredible opening
if anything, i think the cards should be revealed earlier so that people can make a more informed decision of whether or not to order/pre-order
That's fair too
Agreed.Beats buying it and seeing it sit in the box...on the shelf....in a closet.Other hand...It gets you stoked for it when it lands to play.

I do not look at Marvel Champions on Reddit, Facebook or Discord or other platforms because I think spoilers makes it boring.
But sure.
Hi D20 100% agree with you view on this. The anticipation and speculation when waiting for something you love is as much fun as getting it.
This was an incredibly well written reply! I agree completely!
No. Leaks add a lot of excitement
Tbh I am going to watch your video anyway 😜
I do agree that leaks are bad for the community. But I don't agree with your acessment of the effects of leaks. Having your personal card reveals spoiled and waiting too long to make an ffg post reaction video are not comparable.
Personally, if i want to see the new cards, Id watch your reveal video regardless of if i saw leaks or not. But if you are making a video going over the hero a week after they are announced, I may not watch it because at that point, I've already seen discussion videos on it from multiple creators
Hurt the game? No. Hurt the content creators? That probably yes
I would argue that it hurts the community too, not just creators
It's just images of cards to watch earlier
It's not ccg or tcg that you won't know what you will get, the certainty of the pack is always there
I see that you and villan complain about it, sure OK, but again I love leaks and will always watch them even for movies to be honest it's just the nature of people to know stuff fast
Not at all. No one is forcing people to see leaks. I could care less if some company's marketing plan fails.
I get the argument but for some people (anecdotally) they were just perusing Reddit and it popped up and they didn't want anything spoiled. Now, could that be a super small amount, sure. But it's not no one.
@@D20Woodworking The person who posted it should have put a spoiler tag. Beyond that imho this is a non issue.
This was me. I had no intention of spoiling the deck for myself. My husband and I like playing the decks and learning what cards are in them as we play.
*couldn't care less 🤦🏻♂️
This is trending below the Magneto video (as it should). Compared to previews I won't know till about 48 hours out. But I can reply and let you know.
For the two main reasons: 1) it steals the thunder from the creator reveals and
B) it takes away from the hype, which is super valuable for keeping us engaged/interested between releases.
I'm not too exposed to the places where they get spoiled anyways but it socks for people who are and unintentionally see things, and it sucks more for the creators.
Hopefully, that conveys my opinion in a better way,
Namaste 🙏🏾😎🙏🏾
TLDW: Yes.
