My first ever shiny encounter was a deerling in black, and I talked to the scientists in the area. They told me it changes colors when the season changes, so i assumed it was just a different season and killed it. Everytime I see a deerling I wish I could go back and catch that one
When I first played omega ruby I assumed all pokemon evolved via level up so I ended up having like a level 100 kadabra in my game. Eventually I traded with someone to evolve it and they didn't give it back because we "didn't shake on it" so I had to catch another pokemon to trade them just to get my alakazam back. Needless to say I have some trust issues with trading after that

When I finally started progressing again, it had been days and my team was in their 70s. Luckily I haven't made big mistakes as an adult lol
During my Pokemon Y playthrough I found a strange pink sneasel on the snowy route (probably one of my fav pokemon). I fainted it for the precious experience as I wasn't aware of what shiny pokemon were, although it got me intrigued as to why it was pink. A quick google search later and I figured out my mistake :,) Luckily I was able to catch 2 shiny sneasels since then :)

One of my biggest mistakes was when I got Celebi in Crystal through a special event, I released it, thinking it would appear in the game if I reset it. That was when I was under the age of ten. 😂
Here’s a couple of mistakes and both were during my Nuzlockes bc I'm currently a Nuzlocker: 1. During my X Nuzlocke, I was battling Siebold, I had Gogoat out during this. When he was about to send out Gyarados, I was planned to switch to Charizard to set up Sunny Day, and then switch to Snorlax to tank a hit and use Thunderbolt. However, because I sped up the game, I accidentally misclicked, keeping Gogoat in. I then switched to Charizard, while Gyarados was setting up Dragon Dance. And then, he outspeeds Charizard, killing it. (this was the only death I experienced in this game) 2. I was nuzlocking Black 2, and this was during a time where I didn’t know you can delay evolutions. After defeating Elesa using only Drilbur, I accidentally let Drilbur evolve into Excadrill instead of delaying it. Why? Because I didn’t realize until too late that Drilbur learns Earthquake at level 33 and Excadrill learns it 3 levels later. Check your Pokémon's movesets guys!
When Red and Blue had first come out, my friend had Red version and I had both. I was playing my Blue Version at his house and we got to talking about it. He told me he was stuck in Cerulean City because he didn’t know he was supposed to leave through the house Team Rocket robs. So he just kept training in the grass north of the city. For a long time. We had a battle and he had a level 68 Charizard just from the wild Pokémon in that area.
I have a story: A friend gave me Pokémon Black 2, so I used it to trade with my Pokémon Black 1 copy. One day I got bored and deleted the Black 2 save file so I could play it myself. Little did I know that the Black 2 save file had a Shiny Typhlosion on it. How did I know after I deleted it? I was checking my Black 1 save file many years later and looked in the National Dex and there it was, registered as seen. Kids, this is why you transfer Pokémon over to another save before deleting it.
Not a "mistake" really, but it upset me greatly. I started replaying Pokemon X recently (this is the first run I intend to finish) and my first encounter on Route 4 was a female Combee. Feeling incredibly lucky to have her, I named her Emily, after Glitter Lucky from Glitter Force. When I got to the Professor's lab, the game crashed, and the last time I saved was right before the Gym.
In FireRed, I used my master ball to catch a cubone. I had already beaten the elite four but I never encountered a cubone in my playthrough so I really wanted one. After finding out where they are, I went searching in the tower for ~2 hours before I finally encountered one. I then realized that I didn’t have any regular poke balls in my bag and I didn’t want to try to find another cubone so I resorted to the master ball
I have 2 Mistakes. Using a Master Ball on a Magneton in Y. I just thought that it was “just another ball to use to catch Pokémon” My other one was when I got Pokerus in Ultra Sun. I completely forgot for about an hour and then my game froze. Never saved. Lost my Pokerus.
Mine was that when I was playing my first Pokemon game, Emerald, I thought the Pokeball icon on the side of the mon's name meant you had to catch it. I proceeded to catch about 10 wurmples
I had a SHINY VILEPLUME ON MY SCREEN and... so I didn't have much enough balls so I had to run and bike my way to the pokemon center.it still haunts me to this day
I have a mistake from PLA. I had just got the Bravary ride and then I dodge rolled off the temple as I've dodge rolled into water and the a button to summon Baculegion always showed up. A to summon bravery didn't and I realized it too late and fainted for the first time in the game.
All these fails made me go check on my Heart Gold save game where I had just recently gotten a random encounter shiny Ratatta (in Bellsprout Tower; near Escape Rope), this video made me check to see if I remembered to save; I named him Mickey. EDIT: He’s still there. I forgot that I had evolved him into a Raticatte Lol.
When I was about 10, while playing Platinum, I accidentally ran away from Giratina and then saved for some reason. And it took a few years before I learned that you can battle it again in Turnback Cave, so for several years, I felt really bad about that mistake.
In emrald i got a shiny castform first with the weahter institute but after beeting the game steven i forgot to trade the shiny and reseted it and lost the shiny forever
My son mentioned that as a side note, Pokérus is in fact, a fatal disease, that will kill your Pokémon quicker than it just dying of old age, even though it gains EV's faster. Which is why the tombstones, inside the Poké-Tower make so much sense, when looking back on the original games
1. Play your friend's copy of pokemon Emerald. 2. Encounter full-odds shiny sableye 3. Go "I've been playing this for a really long time. Look, the game is starting to visually glitch. Better restart without saving" 4. Realize your mistake when you tell your friend about it at school the next day. The best part? This was after DPPT had already been released, so she had been spending hours pokeradar chaining the same night
I read a book once about gen 1 pokemon, including all 8 eeveelutions. I thought the eeveelutions evolved into each other. During my play through in sword and shield, I wondered why a thunder stone didn't work on my Vaporeon.
On my first ever save of pokemon sword, I released my starter. I had gotten to the first wild area and I clicked the release button thinking it meant the pokemon would be sent out like a following pokemon. I had forgotten that there were autosaves earlier and I hadn't saved yet so I reset. At least this was near the start of the game. ._.
I was a wee child, and me and my brother rented Pokepark at the library, and we didn’t know how to save. So every day, we would wake up to a new save file with all our data erased.
When i was 10 i got my first pokemon game. It was ruby. I caught a machop, evolved it into machoke, and did not know you needed to trade to get machamp. The elite 4 didn't stand a chance against my lvl 80 machoke spamming revenge and sismic toss.
Dumbest mistake happened recently - found a shiny cuffant, one I was excited for, only to accidentally click the picnic button... you can imagine my horror. And no, it was not there when I ended the picnic.
im like 99% sure that i accidentally reset on shiny mewtwo in leaf green, i was on my sp in a dark room and wasnt paying enough attention, only realised when i saw the sparkles right before the screen reset
Pokemon FireRed was my first game, and I didn't know you were supposed to save the Master Ball for legendary Pokemon or that legendary Pokemon had low catch rates (I was like 9 lol). So, I used the Master Ball to catch one of the Snorlax that was blocking the roads. I found Zapdos later and couldn't understand why I couldn't catch it lol
I got a shiny Beldum from the ORAS early purchase event, evolved it into Metagross and used it on my playthrough team. And then I *forgot to move it to Pokemon Bank before restarting the game.* I still hate myself to this day because of it.
First shiny fail I experienced: I was playing Pokemon Y, and I found a shiny Zigzagoon after I got pokeballs. I went to get up and do something and I accidentally hit the run button. R.I.P Shiny Zigzagoon 😢😢😢
The thing about the console dying is relatable. The first game I played physically instead of on an emulator was Moon. I didn't know the game didn't autosave due to being used to Savestates. When I turned the game back on I had to do the entire first island again
Wally's mistake was to lose his lvl 60+ Gardevoir against my lvl 15 nincada while I was xp training and he wiped some of my best team members. He will never become the trainer he wanted to be...
A few days ago I decided to check what Pokémon I had in a Cherish ball in Ultra Moon, and I saw where I used my Master Ball. A malamar. It’s OT was Noah,(my name) and it was in a Master Ball. The only reason I can think of why I caught an Inkay in a master ball is because I liked the way it evolves.
Okay, with the Machamp with Nidoking's head one, I feel like that kid had legitimately glitched out his game to the point that he lost his first Pokemon
My first shiny ever was a Trapinch in Pokémon Y, I saw the sparkles and the different color and my mind immediately went to shiny. But my stupid 8y/o self had heard that Pokémon Go had just introduced shinies and I thought that shinies were only in Pokémon go, I think I caught it anyways but I deleted that save file thinking it was on my other game.
In my first pokemon game pokemon platinum I didn't know what a shiny is and thought it would be bugged and ran. I just remembered that moment last month and it wasn't that dramatic anymore after I caught a shiny Glaceon two days after remembering.
ok, so a few things. One: I was shiny hunting in Moon for my second ever shiny, a bounsweet, that I was going to name Amythyst. I was doing the knock-out method and I didn't notice it was shiny until the point where I saw it faint. I did regain it though. Two: Later on, I lost that Moon version I had so many shinies (18) including my first ever shiny, a shiny Umbreon named Opal, and my first level 100 a non-shiny mimikyu named Jessie. Three: in that same moon game I used my master ball on the Lunala even though it has an easy catch. (i learned that with Sogaleo in sun) Bonus: Not exactly a "mistake" but I did spend 7 phases (well I found 12 shinies before it) and almost and about 9 months for a normal shiny sinistea with 33,473 total encounters, not including the shinies and the pokemon I didn't count in the hunts like nidoran (I was only counting the sinistea in the old graveyard) outside of that hunt in Shield. Including the other ones it was around 38,878 encounters not including the full odds aerodactyl that happened during one of the phases (but it wasn't part of my sinistea hunt so I didn't consider it a phase) and a mantyke and blaziken from Dynamax adventures. I also got pokerus if that helps with how long i was hunting. I named the sinistea iNSaNiTea for the pun and how this hunt drove me insane.
Holy cow! I just remembered that I too got stuck for a bit in Pokémon Ruby because I didn’t think I could go under the bike path! Wow, that’s wild. Can’t believe I forgot that.
In pokemon go on an Abra community day, I caught a least 6 shiny Abra's. Knowing how many I caught, I didn't think they were that rare, I transferred all but 1 of them
Here's a shiny fail that happened a while ago, pretty recently; One day, I was playing with my friend & she asked me for a white-feathered Squawkabilly so she could have all four variants, and because they would never appear for her for some reason. I found one right outside of Artazon and then entered the town, causing it to despawn. Luckily, it wasn't shiny. So after I ended the play session, I decided to make a sandwich to try to get another one to appear for her. I re-entered & re-exited the town over & over again when suddenly a shiny Oricorio had appeared. Since I had a sandwich effect, that meant it wasn't full odds. But then I entered the town and I watched it despawn in front of my eyes. I immediately regretted this for the rest of the night due to that singular black & red bird that I saw exist for half a second or so. I made a promise with my friend that as redemption for the bird that was lost to hatch a new one via Masuda Method. At least I got the white-feathered Squawkabilly she wanted & traded it for a shiny Charcadet she hatched via Masuda Method. My first shiny fail was a Shedinja in Shield. I entered a random Shedinja raid, and it was a shiny. Once I defeated it, I caught it... and it escaped the Poké Ball I threw at it & ran away to somewhere else in the den. Thank goodness that can't possibly happen in Tera raids, now that they have a 100% catch rate in those. Funnily enough, it wasn't until she got the white-feathered Squawkabilly that said Pokémon variant started spawning for her in her game. How random.
When I first played Pokémon Blue, I was trying to catch a level 3 Jigglypuff and I accidentally clicked on and used my one and only Master Ball instead of a poke ball.
My very first pokemon game was Ruby, and I got to Mt Pyre and started crying because I thought pokemon could actually die if they got too strong... So I released my favorite Swellow, my SweetieGirl, into the wild so that she could live out a full happy life free. ...She was also the only pokemon I had that had any levels on it, so I had essentially screwed myself for the file. It wasn't a full soft lock, but boy it sure felt like it.
I didn’t know what shiny Pokémon were back in the day so the first time I ran into a shiny Poliwag on the original Crystal I just killed it. I also accidentally reset on my version of SoulSilver that had all my shinies on it instead of starting a new game on the cartridge I specifically used for new games
One time, I was masuda method egg hunting shinies, and I was releasing the non-shinies and accidentally scrolled onto a shiny, competitively viable Dracovish I got. R.I.P. my boi.
This one stings because it actually happened relatively recently. Shiny hunting Ponyta in Alpha Sapphire. Catch one. Play for too long when I have to get to work the next day. Come back the next day. Can't find shiny Ponyta. Can't find other Pokemon I caught after shiny Ponyta. Sit there confused because I usually save twice just in case, but somehow I apparently didn't save at all. The fact that they practically give you shiny Ponyta in LA is actually just salt on the wounds.
In fire red, I thought you were supposed to stay on the boat in Vermilion City. When it would sail away, I restarted my game. I was young when this happened.
I had made two mistakes that both involve different times i decided to restart my Pokemon Emerald save. 1) Found and caught my first (of so far two) shiny pokemon - Poochyena, thought nothing of it, got to the last gym and restarted because I was stuck on how to open the gym and thought I'd missed some dialogue, so I restarted the game. 2) I caught a Rayquaza for the first time and at Victory Road, made it my HM Slave because none of my other pokemon could learn them, restarted just because of that
Might as well post my dumbest Pokémon moment here. Trying to hunt Shiny Heracross in ORAS, found a shiny Oddish in a horde encounter and accidentally ran from it. At least it's my only failed shiny
Didn't even KNEW I HAD POKERUS in my sword playthrough, after beating the game I noticed my Inteleon had purple face icon, didn't knew what it was until doing some research then I was heartbroken for a long time. PS. I'm still heartbroken till this day knowing how rare it is then a shiny.
My mistake, I left candice’s gym after completing the puzzle to heal and when I came back in the puzzle reset, I haven’t beaten the puzzle yet (I’m talking about the ice snowball puzzle)
In pokemon let's go pikachu, I was facing Bruno in the elite four and his onix set up stealth rocks at the start and I was down to his poliwrath. My only pokemon alive was moltres and it was at half health and I thought stealth rocks halfed your current health on flying type pokemon. I was super angry when my moltres died immediately and made me lose the battle.
My biggest mistake in Pokemon was when I deleted a Sapphire save file to do a new playthrough, purposely deleting a Shiny Golbat. First legit shiny, GS Gyarados aside. LG!Eevee allowed me to redeem myself, but the scars are still there.
was well into my teens and familiar with pokemon and shinies. in xy, I was grinding levels for evolutions to complete the dex and I ran into a shiny altaria outside victory road. killed it with a crit.
1) shiny seadra with no pokeballs 2) forgetting to save after event shiny arceus 3) leveling my kadabra to some ridiculous level because I thought it was level up, while holding an everstone bc I thought it made it evolve faster
I think one of the biggest mistakes I made was in my Pokemon Sun game, when I was just starting out on Pokemon games for the first time. I used some rare candies on my Zygarde when it was close to leveling up, because I didn't know at the time that they give the Pokemon the exact amount of EXP they need to level up. I didn't think it would bring it there with the exact amount. I thought it would level it up and have it at the exact amount it was at in the next level. Even worse, I forgot to switch it to the front of my party to get evenly leveled with the others, along with my Flygon. I was wrong.
Confession time: in a Pokemon FireRed Nuzlocke attempt, I caught a level 3 Metapod that only knew Harden. Not knowing that I could switch in my starter if things got dicy and still receive exp for the Metapod, I foolishly believed the anime and believed that Harden was an unconventionally useful move, so I used Harden on my opponent. RIP Metapod. RIP my one encounter in Viridian Forest. RIP my Bulbasaur and that attempt of mine, because the poor thing was on its last legs and lost to a rival battle. I went full on rage mode afterwards and took out my frustrations on Brock (*cough*Bulbasaur*cough* *cough*Leech Seed*cough* *cough*Vine Whip*cough*)
Two of the biggest mistake are from before the time of UA-cam and decent internet. The first one was when I was super young. When I played Yellow, there would be times after battles where my screen would flicker with a weird noise and I thought my game was glitching. Because I didn't want it to stop my cart from working, I would reset the save file and it would fix the issue. Which made sense because I only poisoned. The second one was something that hurt years after I did it. I remember finding out what shiny Pokemon were and how to identify them. Online sources said shinies have a red star on the info screen and this made me recall a conversation with my friend about a weird colored Golbat I caught and used in my main party in Ruby with a red star on the info screen. We didn't know about shinies at the time and this was the era of my life where I would reset Pokemon games when I felt like playing through the whole thing again.
I also thought the thing about Pokémon going first if you selected your move faster, mostly when it came to Pokémon Stadium and would always be confused when I chose my attack immediately and the computer did it at a steady pace and still went first
Thinking about shiny alpha gardevoir

Here’s a couple of mistakes and both were during my Nuzlockes bc I'm currently a Nuzlocker:
1. (this was the only death I experienced in this game)
I have a story:
A friend gave me Pokémon Black 2, so I used it to trade with my Pokémon Black 1 copy.
Naming a female combee after a glitter force character is the cutest thing
In FireRed, I used my master ball to catch a cubone. I had already beaten the elite four but I never encountered a cubone in my playthrough so I really wanted one. After finding out where they are, I went searching in the tower for ~2 hours before I finally encountered one. I then realized that I didn’t have any regular poke balls in my bag and I didn’t want to try to find another cubone so I resorted to the master ball
I have 2 Mistakes.
Using a Master Ball on a Magneton in Y. I just thought that it was “just another ball to use to catch Pokémon”
My other one was when I got Pokerus in Ultra Sun.
One mistake I made was deleteing rock Throw, for Rock Smash, cuz I thought it was stronger. This was in Silver.
I was once talking to my friends and was hunting Uxie. I found the shiny tossed a few pokeballs and then subconsciously hit the soft reset buttons.
My biggest mistake was solely raising Pikachu in Yellow.
Guess how much fun I had with Brock and Giovanni.
1. Play your friend's copy of pokemon Emerald.
2. Encounter full-odds shiny sableye
3. Go "I've been playing this for a really long time. Look, the game is starting to visually glitch. Better restart without saving"
4. Realize your mistake when you tell your friend about it at school the next day.
The best part? This was after DPPT had already been released, so she had been spending hours pokeradar chaining the same night
Hey John hope your doing just fine in the new office and hoping you have a great rest of the day! Also remember to tell your mom it’s Mother’s Day!
I read a book once about gen 1 pokemon, including all 8 eeveelutions. I thought the eeveelutions evolved into each other. During my play through in sword and shield, I wondered why a thunder stone didn't work on my Vaporeon.
I once found a shiny Rattata in gen 2 before Pokeballs, I laughed, cried a little, then ran from it
wow the shiny alpha gardevoir happened to you too? WILD COINCIDENCE
If you wait for day without going back to the village it comes back still shiny
13:17 I DID THAT TOO!!! I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE!!! I was stuck there for days trying to figure out how to progress!
On my first ever save of pokemon sword, I released my starter. I had gotten to the first wild area and I clicked the release button thinking it meant the pokemon would be sent out like a following pokemon. I had forgotten that there were autosaves earlier and I hadn't saved yet so I reset. At least this was near the start of the game. ._.
My worst moment was probably when my little brother was doing dynamax adventures and he used a master ball on a mudsdale
I was a wee child, and me and my brother rented Pokepark at the library, and we didn’t know how to save. So every day, we would wake up to a new save file with all our data erased.
Teaching Dream Eater to a Haunter that didn't have any moves that could put Pokemon to sleep.
When i was 10 i got my first pokemon game. It was ruby. I caught a machop, evolved it into machoke, and did not know you needed to trade to get machamp. The elite 4 didn't stand a chance against my lvl 80 machoke spamming revenge and sismic toss.
I almost failed my 0.002% chance shiny beedrill in let’s go eevee because it had a run animation while I’m throwing regular poke balls
At 10:43 he thought alpharad didn't listen to his friends advice, but he did, but his Brayden's advise backfired.
12:50 OH MY GOD, I MADE IT INTO THE VIDEO!
That's me right there!
At the very bottom cut off... 🤧
"You can't beat Onix with a Pikachu!" ...I'm looking at you Ash...
And then I *forgot to move it to Pokemon Bank before restarting the game.*
I still hate myself to this day because of it.
I can excuse the "losing a Ho-Oh to a Nincada", that stupid bug has NO REASON whatsoever to have HEAD SMASH. Completely uncalled for.
First shiny fail I experienced: I was playing Pokemon Y, and I found a shiny Zigzagoon after I got pokeballs. I went to get up and do something and I accidentally hit the run button. R.I.P Shiny Zigzagoon 😢😢😢
That cut where the power went out must've felt like the end of The Sopranos on stream.
Nincada just soloed Gardevoir with one bug move (think it was leech life) and sand attack
I needed this, I started a nuzlocke recently and managed to faint every flying type I can find. I can no longer use fly...
My greatest mistake was eating a chicken sandwich while shiny hunting and accidentally knocked out a shiny zigzagoon
Okay, with the Machamp with Nidoking's head one, I feel like that kid had legitimately glitched out his game to the point that he lost his first Pokemon
Generation one was a glitchy game so seems pretty reasonable
(i learned that with Sogaleo in sun)
Bonus: Not exactly a "mistake" but I did spend 7 phases (well I found 12 shinies before it) and almost and about 9 months for a normal shiny sinistea with 33,473 total encounters, not including the shinies and the pokemon I didn't count in the hunts like nidoran (I was only counting the sinistea in the old graveyard) outside of that hunt in Shield.
The Onix clip from Alpharad's nuzlocke is iconic.
In pokemon go on an Abra community day, I caught a least 6 shiny Abra's. Knowing how many I caught, I didn't think they were that rare, I transferred all but 1 of them
Here's a shiny fail that happened a while ago, pretty recently;
One day, I was playing with my friend & she asked me for a white-feathered Squawkabilly so she could have all four variants, and because they would never appear for her for some reason.
R.I.P. my boi.
dracovish cannot breed
@@samuelfaille-denis8098 no, I was hunting Omanyte, but a Dracovish was in the box.
7:17 “I had balls” yea ya did. You had the balls to run from that
This one stings because it actually happened relatively recently.
I'll admit as a rookie on leafgreen, I deleted a green Bulbasaur thinking that my game was glitched:)
In fire red, I thought you were supposed to stay on the boat in Vermilion City. When it would sail away, I restarted my game. I was young when this happened.
Jesus that first clip pm7 already having owlton Johns hair lol
I had made two mistakes that both involve different times i decided to restart my Pokemon Emerald save. 1) Found and caught my first (of so far two) shiny pokemon - Poochyena, thought nothing of it, got to the last gym and restarted because I was stuck on how to open the gym and thought I'd missed some dialogue, so I restarted the game. 2) I caught a Rayquaza for the first time and at Victory Road, made it my HM Slave because none of my other pokemon could learn them, restarted just because of that
Me, a 7y/o non native English speaker: not knowing what the release button does and testing it on my best and favorite Pokémon.
Might as well post my dumbest Pokémon moment here. Trying to hunt Shiny Heracross in ORAS, found a shiny Oddish in a horde encounter and accidentally ran from it. At least it's my only failed shiny
"The speed up button is just not worth it"
Anyone remember Mikey's platinum nuzlocke?
My worst fail was a first encounter full odds ditto in crystal... it struggled ko'd itself after breaking out of every ball I threw at it
Didn't even KNEW I HAD POKERUS in my sword playthrough, after beating the game I noticed my Inteleon had purple face icon, didn't knew what it was until doing some research then I was heartbroken for a long time.
Purplecliffe has so many fails they would need a video of their own
My biggest mistake in Pokemon was when I deleted a Sapphire save file to do a new playthrough, purposely deleting a Shiny Golbat.
2:00 i legitimately can't even wrap my head around and begin to understand this
I used to think status moves were pointless and made my Pokemon forget all ones they knew
Lost about two hours of gameplay due to a game crash. Then realized I had caught my shiny Hisui Zoroark during that period.
Once I was playing Platinum and my DS fell off my desk and froze, I was in Iron Island, and I apparently never saved once
I also thought the thing about Pokémon going first if you selected your move faster, mostly when it came to Pokémon Stadium and would always be confused when I chose my attack immediately and the computer did it at a steady pace and still went first
John:yay shiny
Wimpod:✌️
