Worked with an ex SAS guy for a few years, he never mentioned anything about his army days. Sounds weird but the only thing that made him different was his walk - it’s hard to describe, he walked fast but without appearing to and there was something about his technique that you knew, if he wanted to, he could walk all day, every day at that speed. A fun fact: the British SAS was the first to use and invented the killing House and they trained the FBI and US special forces after the fact. @Combat Arms Channel - you should do a mini bio of Paddy Mayne, one of the founders of the SAS. Was an amateur boxer (got to the final of the British universities heavyweight tournament), and international rugby player for Ireland, and represented the British Lions in South Africa, joined up at start of WW2, became a commando, famously would punch out senior officers he didn't like (he was big drinker, would get drunk then shoot places up LoL), joined the SAS, was single handedly responsible for destroying over 100 German aircraft on the ground, behind enemy lines in the desert, when he ran out of explosives he would climb in the cockpit and rip out the instrument panels with his bare hands, when David Stirling was captured he took command of SAS and took them through Europe and Germany, was awarded the DSO 4 times (should have had the VC), was awarded the Croix de Guerre and Legion D'Honeur by the French, was just about the most decorated British soldier in WW2, afterwards became secretary or chairman of law society of Ireland (it's what he studied at university), and died when he crashed his Riley Roadster into the back of a coal truck - at just 40 years old. Incredible man, achieved more in 40 years than most people would achieve in 40 lifetimes.

Typically in CQB and hostage situations, they don't normally use burst fire, as shown in the video, as the spread could hit a hostage. They normally double tap. In fact, its said they'll double tap the open mouth of a stunned terrorist to make sure they hit the brain stem to ensure the terrorist doesn't squeeze the trigger in a death grip.

Around 23:20 I love the reference to the double tap. Martial arts is my thing, and we have all important double tap, but for us it means something very, very different. For us, double tap means we're saying to our opponent, OK, stop fighting me now, I'm done. Actually, when I word it like that, perhaps there is some similarity after all.

My late father trained alongside the sas as do a select few of your own special forces outfits, US troops used to get called Craphats, and were known for following orders and plans to the letter but also for calling for extraction if the plans fell apart, that was why the cross forces training began, this was a long time ago and presumably things have improved, but if you train troops by shouting constantly, you get blind obedience and a fear of acting without orders, btw I met John Mac once, it was unfortunately at the old man's funeral

In one of my engineering classes we looked at that military jaws of life (whatever it was called) mechanism and it was crazy. It theoretically amplified the input force by near infinity but the tolerances of the machining didn’t allow it to reach that obviously. Still you could power that thing with a tiny linear actuator and it would cut through steel car doors like butter. So cool.

When l was in the special constabulary we were asked to volunteer for a event on weekend , it turned out we were to be hostages at a RAF base , we were put into different rooms and told to wait . Then the window went in and four men dived through hole , picked us up and into a corridor , thrown down the stairs to a man on each landing and carried out and thrown to the floor . Two broken ankles ( not me ) , everyone was in shock .
Then we saw about 20 men climb aboard a blacked out coach and drove off , we were then told it was the SAS , all the regular police thought it very funny .

Not sure if this is true or where I heard it but maybe you can clarify, I heard originally the SAS opted for the double tap technique because they favour lower calibre rounds to reduce the chance of a through and through shot, potentially hitting a hostage behind the target. So this means less damage to the target so going for a double tap ensures the target goes down.
