1st week esp watch for "pasty But"..hold wet paper towel on it till it softens and falls off. DON"T pull it off or you will pull out its insides! Pads may be too slippery and they could get splay legs. I use shelf liner for 1st week. They all look good. Hugs from Eloy AZ

Also, make sure they don't get too hot cause the temperature in the brooder can creep up on you and get too hot really fast.

@@ChaoticCountry I was the same way lol. I would sit with them while I had my morning coffee and I would tell them goodnight at bedtime lol. It's like I didn't want to leave their side because I was afraid they would get bigger that quick or I was afraid something else would change about them and I didn't want to miss anything! 😂😂 You'll get used to them in a couple weeks. My husband would pick on me and say I was a helicopter chicken Mom lol! I'm like that every time we've gotten new baby chicks though. We said we weren't going to get any new birds this year because we got new babies of all our different birds last year but I'm really trying hard not to go on the website and order some right now! If I stick with our plan and don't get anymore right now I've already started me a list of new ones I'm gonna get next year lol! Easter eggers are at the top of my list because I've never gotten any of them before and they're so pretty. I'm fighting the urge so hard not to go ahead and place an order! I told my hubby Terry I said it could be worse ya know, at least it's just chickens I'm addicted to and not something worse or more expensive lol.

I thought about ordering from cackle and another hatchery always got them from neighbors or friends but they are usually New Hampshire or Rhode island's I got lucky and found barred rock rock and a bantam roos for free
Nothing beats free! 😂 I loved my experience with Cackle and will definitely order with them again.
They seem to really like the brooder plate. I keep going back and forth on getting one.
I really like it! At first I was a bit scared of it because I’ve heard they have to be at 95 degrees! And this doesn’t get to 95 degrees but it seems radiate heat isn’t the same. They lay against it and it warms them. When they come out they are nice and warm but I was so worried they would freeze because it was only registering as 76-78 under it. I do have the heat lamp hung high and secured so it won’t fall and have it on as well for now. But the temperature on top of the plate is still only 80ish degrees our basement is pretty cool right now so I wanted to warm the air in their space a bit more.

I was such a mess I didn’t even think that but also if I had looked in and they was all passed I would have probably cried like an idiot so who knows lol.

I didn't realize how tiny they'd be omg
So exciting!!! Baby chicks are so fun! We used the same heater when ours were brand new and it worked perfect. As they got bigger we moved to a heat lamp.
Toni as they get bigger and change colors you'll be able to tell what kind is which. They're probably all ok. It takes them a few days to get used to their surroundings. They also like to burrow down in the shavings to keep warm.

I am surprised you are a worrier, but your not worried about those heat lamps, that would worry me that's why I don't use them. Too many people I know have lost barns coops and even their house because of those heat lamps. A risk I'm not willing to take. Kind of a no brainer to me, Replace chicken?, Replace Barn , coop or house?🐣🐤🐥
