Although we had a bad experience, we want to share the story of another owner who has had it worse than any of us combined. We know about this story because the owner posted on his instagram and facebook about his experience. His camper caught on fire due to electrical malfunctioning that the owner of Black Series refused to fix. This man is a retired, disabled veteran and his camper caught on fire with his two dogs inside and burned to the ground completely. We didn't mention it in our video because we have not been in contact with that owner yet and are trying to get ahold of him to help spread his message. But this is another example of how crooked this company is. Our problems were nothing compared to what this man faced. You can find his story on his Instagram "twodogwanderer".
@FITNESSOVER45 We would love to spearhead something like that for him. We believe he is off-grid at the moment but if he replies to our Instagram & Facebook messages, we hope to make a video with him telling his story that we can share on the channel.
If he had full coverage insurance it 'should' have paid for the fire. I hope the insurance paid the entire damage claim. He should have gotten a decent settlement. Insurance is expensive on these units. While I did not have many problems with mine, but I sold and took a $20K loss.
It's unfortunate that this happened to this guy and it hurts me that that happened to his dogs. But in this case blackseries isn't responsible. He posted pictures in the group about his mods. His batteries had heavy corrosion on them(He bought second hand lithium batteries) . People have to stop blaming companies because of their own negligence. Black series also helped the guy out. But the guy won't tell anybody that
Wow, I thought I had done enough research and was ready to commit and buy, glad you posted this, at 65, I don't need any headaches, I will take my money elsewhere, thanks again!
Glad it was helpful for you. Again- we can only speak on our experience. I’m sure there’s other owners out there who have had a positive experience and hopefully love their trailer, but after what we went through and seeing how the company handles their customers- it was a nightmare and we just can’t in good faith recommend. Wish all the best to you and your future travels. 🙏🏻
They have a UA-cam channel in Spanish Totalmente Perdidos....they have maybe more than 100 thousands subscriber..they driven the Black Series for free and the first trip to Alaska the TT have a few issues.
I worked at a dealership for 10 years and you wouldn't believe how many trailers are shipped without grease in the wheel bearings... crackheads on the line have to go run a line or take a shit so that axle don't get grease. It doesn't get checked during a pdi either. First thing you do when you buy a RV is re-pack the wheel bearings and monitor the shit out of them. I now haul new RVs to dealers and i check the temp on the hubs a few times in the first 100 miles until im comfortable... these new rv's are junk... windows fall out, vents blow off, etc.
The entire industry is crap with prices astronomically through the roof. I live full-time in a '98 Lance cabover camper. I purchased it used and have zero issues with it other than normal maintenance, which I am diligent about. The new Lance campers have no storage and are overpriced. I'll keep mine, thank you very much.
This dosnt only apply to wheel bearings but all bearings these days from China seem to have buggar all grease in them. For example Bicycles from the big retailers always have no grease. The bearings seem fine but without grease they dont last long.
I have been dealing with the same issues since summer of 2022. We had a catastrophic loss of wheel in November 2022. My trailer was in dealership lot for 5 months and they finally replaced the entire suspension from another trailer on their lot. Then we found out that the problem was the frame and the brackets that the suspension system bolts to is welded incorrectly. Our trailer has been sitting on dealers lot since June of 2023. The same non English speaking repair tech came to "fix" our trailer just a couple weeks ago. He apparently did nothing to correct the problem. Moreover he had no tools or equipment to even fix it. We also had the same experience with "Jack" the owner and their FB group page. In fact, we have been blocked from the FB page. Your experience is almost a mirror to our HQ 21.
Oh man, I’m so sorry you are going through the same thing. It’s incredibly frustrating when your hands are tied like that. It’s clear the owner only cares about his bottom dollar and not the well-being or satisfaction of his customers. I don’t know how long BS will be around for. We are just hoping other owners like you will feel seen and heard through us being as transparent as we can in this video about our poor experience. Praying all the best for you and your situation to smooth out. 🙏🏻
I am a retired attorney. I have scheduled a meeting with an attorney with expertise in this area. I will keep you up to date about that. I intend to show your video to my attorney so they know that this is a serious matter involving lots of owners. You should know that replacing the suspension will not fix the problem and it is virtually impossible to re weld the brackets without dismantling the entire trailer back to the frame. My trailer has one of the brackets out of alignment by more than 1 inch. Thus the alignment adjustment bolts won't work. I remember seeing your walk through video when you purchased your trailer. We were already dealing with BS not offering any help and the same blocked messages to the owner group page when I saw your first videos. This may be a "class action" type of litigation. Again thanks for sharing your experience. I wish I was more sophisticated in videoing and distributing issues. I would have certainly been doing so. @@texastotable
One other point. My dealership is Floyd's in Norman, OK. It was purchased by Blue Horizon about the time I bought the BS trailer. Floyd's has done absolutely nothing to honor the extended warranty I purchased from them. They have 5-6 other BS customer trailers on their lot and can't fix them either. They let the non-english speaking tech guy from BS "work" on the customer trailers without any supervision or knowledge of what he may or may not have done. Im wondering if the dealers knew or should have known there were defects at the time they sold these trailers. Note: RV of America in Provo, Utah used to be the biggest dealer of BS but they severed their ties to BS in late 2022 or 2023. Only recently did they post a UA-cam video of why they stopped selling them.
@@wildhorse6098 WOW! After seeing the suspension components post-failure and R&R'ing the parts ourselves, we had ZERO trust in the structural integrity of the trailer. We are so sorry to hear about your issues and the lack of assistance from BS. We know of other owners interested in a class action suit so please share this video with your attorney and let us know how we can help. There are some here in the comments and others we've spoken with elsewhere so it would be helpful to get everyone's contact information together for ease of communication. You can email us at texastotable@gmail.com
Thank you soooo much. I was an hour away from purchasing a new Black Series Camper and randomly came across your video. I have changed my mind and definitely WILL NOT be making a Black Series purchase!
WOW, incredible timing. We are so glad you found this video. Your money is better spent elsewhere! Best of luck on your search and thanks for watching!
I just called them, said I had been thinking about buying one of their trailers but that I had seen your video describing your experience with them and that after seeing it I was changing my mind. The guy on the phone told me (as he was tripping all over his words) that they did try to help you, but that they are understaffed so... I then said "so you were unable to help because you're understaffed" and he then said "no, it's not like that... it's more like um um um..." silence. Run!
Oh my goodness!!! I wish we could have heard the exchange y’all had, that must have been hilarious. You just answered our question of “I wonder if anyone at their office has seen the video yet?”
And this is why we bought an ESCAPE trailer. They were the ONLY company we could find that had any real professionalism and proven quality. The industry as a whole is a pile of *^%(*^).
I think you had a different "ESCAPE" trailer. The one I'm talking about is a full fiberglass unit made in BC Canada. I believe you have a "sub model" from a different MFG. I thought it was odd to hear that as I know numerous people with the real ESCAPE fiberglass trailer and they are very well constructed. Good luck with yours.
@@realreviews2003Ah, yes. I have a KZ Escape. Build quality has been terrible. I think that is the case with most RVs build in Indiana. I'm guessing the Canadian Escape is an order of magnitude better.
OMG!!! I'm so glad you guys made this video. My wife & I purchased a MARS-13 trailer from Black Series. We have used it once since July of 2023. It is now February of 2024 and we're about to use it again. We've had multiple warranty issues from stabilizer malfunction to solar panels blowing off while driving. I've filmed everything but haven't posted yet. You guys have confirmed my thoughts on their quality. It's a shame. I will continue watching your videos and good luck with your travels. 🤙
You’re not alone with your warranty issues, but we hope you don’t have a catastrophic failure like this. Happy camping and thanks for watching/subscribing!
Oh my goodness! We were just at The City of Industry Monday, Feb 19th, 2024 looking at these trailers! We've been eyeballing them for a year and we were so stoked to go! But my fiance came across your video and now we know why there are hundreds of dilapidated trailers surrounding their building! We thought that was odd but in hindsite, we saw many trailers missing wheels, AC units tore out, many other things tore out and the grounds were full of trash! Especially directly behind the building! The salesman was great and we were interested in the new HQ 21 Patio and one was being assembled inside the huge plant and he walked us back. I grew up in a manufacturing industry, so I know how things are assembled, etc. The place was a freaking MESS! Now we want to drive back there and video all the broken down trailers surrounding the huge building! Thank you for sharing!
It’s crazy listening to this video. We didn’t have axle problems yet.. but we had a major failure in all power before we took it out for even one trip. Everything you describe happened to us. The fake UPS tracking, nobody calling us, the dealership not getting paid. They still owe us money and we have received nothing! Like you we felt it was the right trailer for us and it’s been a nightmare.
Oh my goodness! I did not expect to hear that the fake tracking number play was something they’ve done to multiple people. Please be so careful with your trailer. You may have heard but there is one gentleman who lost both of his poor dogs when his trailer caught fire and burned to the ground. These are SO DANGEROUS and black series is turning a blind eye. As for reimbursement, I will say it’s possible to get paid but it will take countless phone calls and emails. We finally received a check for the rewiring our trailer required but I called and emailed daily. Be as annoying as possible, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. Please feel free to email us if you have any questions. Another owner who commented here is meeting with an attorney today about a class action suit.
@@texastotable Class action lawsuit is the way here. Best of luck and thank you for putting out the truth. Also, respect on bow hunting - that takes skill!
I had looked at a HQ21 just recently at a big rv dealer in CA. The sales guy told me flat out that he wouldn’t sell me one due to all the issues they’ve had dealing with the company and didn’t want my family in danger. He mentioned they had purchased one back to keep a customer happy. I thought maybe it was a tactic to put me into something else. Welp I guess we will go with Xgrid now. Black series needs to make this right and buy back your trailer. Winnebago always took care of us promptly in our current trailer. Also, I’d start a new FB group if I were you. “Black series owners unofficial” company controlled groups are bad.
Great video and thorough breakdown of the issues you've encountered with your Black Series camper. I appreciate the effort to share these insights with potential buyers and fellow owners. I wanted to point out a specific engineering concern that might not have been fully addressed in the video regarding the spring setup's geometry. The issue with the spring setup, where the bottom cup of the spring is not parallel to the frame of the trailer, is a significant engineering oversight. Ideally, the top and bottom cups of the spring should either be straight or angled but parallel to each other. The configuration you have, with the top cup straight and the bottom cup angled, can lead to uneven stress distribution and potential failure points under load. This is not just a matter of poor design, but a fundamental flaw in understanding load dynamics and structural integrity in vehicle engineering. Addressing such specific engineering principles is crucial, especially for trailers designed for rugged, off-road use. It's not just about the immediate impact on usability but the long-term safety and reliability of the vehicle. I hope this insight adds to the conversation and helps in advocating for better engineering practices in recreational vehicles. This is what clued me in to the problem. 21:24
Thank you for the insight and explanation. I don't have a background in engineering, just mechanical experience from racing cars. When we R&R'd the suspension components I knew it was not properly engineered when we saw the spring angle, as you mentioned. These trailers are dangerous and we want to spread the truth to owners as well as those considering these trailers. You will see others in the comments voicing similar issues with their black series and the company is leaving everyone out on their own. It is infuriating to spend this kind of money on something that is marketed to be capable but will undoubtably break and leave you stranded due to their lack of engineering.
Dude, appreciate you sharing your story. Really, I LITERALLY almost signed at the dotted lines yesterday on one of these yesterday man. I was LITERALLY waiting for the paper work and curiosity got to me and I put in youtube and typed in “Black Series Camper issues” and your video came up first. I was literally sitting at the dealer and flabbergasted as I was watching and seeing other videos as well. When the salesman came with the papers I got up, shook his hand and thanked him for his time and walked away. You should have seen his face. THANK YOU!!!!!
WOW! Thank you for sharing. Crazy how you found this before signing, I can’t imagine if you didn’t do the search until after it was official. Thanks for watching and best of luck on your trailer search
We have a 2021 Black Series HQ19T. We have had issues with alignment, wiring and other things mentioned here. Last summer we were returning from a camping trip in SE Texas back to our home in N Texas. We were about 80 miles from home and noticed a strange noise coming from the trailer. I might also add the temp was over 100 degrees. I pulled into a church parking lot to see if I could determine the issue. I got out of the truck and walked around the camper for a visual inspection. When I got to the passenger side of the camper it didn't take long to determine the problem. I was missing a complete wheel and hub assembly from the right rear axle. The axle was dangling in mid air. It was obvious to me that I was not going to me able to fix this and continue home. I, of course, had a spare tire but there was nothing to attach it to. I tried to make some phone calls to insurance but that was a no go. I ended up calling a local repair shop that deals with this kind of stuff. They came over and ended up chaining up the axle and towing it 2 miles to their shop. They ended up keeping our camper over night and we drove home. We picked it up the next day and paid them $800 for parts and labor. We never found the wheel and tire. I did post our experience on the BS Facebook site. One guy contacted me about it and said he was a parts guy at Black Series. He offered to send me a replacement wheel. He actually sent me a wheel which I was happy to get however, the wheel he sent was a 16" wheel and my HQ19T has 15" wheels. So now I have a nice wheel that I cannot use. I tried to re-contact the dude but never got a reply.
Oh my goodness! Thank you so much for commenting, we are finding this to be a common failure and black series is doing nothing to help owners. I highly recommend you make a video of your experience and post it to you youtube channel. We need to spread the word more and get the word out that these trailers are NOT SAFE and the company is not supporting owners when they break.
@@texastotable I wonder how many "offers" you could get, from rural firefighting crews, who need such a bulky off-road vehicle, to set fire too, for "crash-test-dummy" practice workshop "tools" to help them eliminate potential problems if they attend such a place for a real fire dril, such as that old Vet had, who lost his two 4x legged companions. To some people, they (the dogs) mean more to them, than actual human offspring, who could also have been, asleep in that van that caught fire.
Thanks for posting this. I've been window shopping trailers for years and Black Series was high on my list. I looked at everything I could find on UA-cam on them. It was mostly dealers posting reviews. Then I saw one dealer post a review from the assembly plant in southern california where I learned that these are manufactured in China and they're all built to a size that will fit perfectly in a container to be shipped to the US. All that's done in the US is to put the wheels, tires, maybe some suspension components? Everything is manufactured in China. After seeing that - I lost interest. Besides - for an off-the-grid trailer - their solar and battery package is very very weak. I got a 30 foot Flagstaff last year and we used it a lot in the last 12 months and haven't had a single problem so far. Couldn't be happier.
I sure wish we would've seen that prior to buying. It was originally an Australian company with a solid reputation. We just hope this video helps others. Thank you for watching
@@texastotable They were about 2 minutes walk from my home. They have now moved to another industrial area in the same city but they are made in China (as are most things these days) .A mate of mine works for a company importing from china. They have a permanent staff who actually tear down each and every trailer to ensure problems are found before a customer does. In Australia that costs big money. But they sell several a week .So far in 12 months they have only found one fault and that was for a poor paint job which was rectified. There are three other companies in my area still importing from CCP land ,and I've seen them stacked three high as they get unloaded from the containers. Buy local ,support local .
Wow !! What a nightmare. So glad you shared this information as I was thinking about buying the same trailer in march. Saved me a ton of money and anger. Hate that you guys had to find out the hard way. Hopefully this video will reach other people that were also looking at buying from this company.
It was a horrible experience but comments like yours help us to know this video will help keep others from this miserable ownership experience. Thank you for watching and good luck with your search.
I am a Los Angeles outdoor photographer, and a few years ago, I photographed a series of RVs for this company in Alabama Hills. To put it bluntly, although it's branded as an Australian company, its factory is actually in Los Angeles and owned by Chinese people. Regardless of the quality of the vehicles, the employees and the boss of this brand were extremely disrespectful at the time. We worked tirelessly in the 40-degree desert, only to have our wages withheld after the shoot, with attempts to negotiate them down. Anyway, seeing everyone now saying they're not good, I feel relieved.
Wow, I've been considering one of these for a year+. It's getting to where you can't trust anyone these days. Thank you for posting this. I hope you get all the issues resolved soon!
We were initially very excited but the problems mounted, as you saw. We will always be honest and transparent on this channel, which is why we made this video. We hope it helps others avoid a similar outcome. Thank you for watching the channel!
Thank you for doing this video. I had seen a few promo videos from influencers who were loaned units to do videos. They were raving about them....makes me question their integrity. Your video is the second one I have seen talking about the quality issues. Unfortunately, it sounds like the company started off really well before things started being made in China.
We felt obligated to share our story to hopefully help others avoid a similar outcome. In the comments of this video, there are quite a few owners with horrible experiences with their trailer and lack of customer service. Absolute JUNK! You're right, when everything moved to china, the issues really started. Thanks for watching!
Thank you! After our experience it was important to us that we share this message so any potential buyers as well as current owners know about this. Thanks for watching
I like your style of off road caravans as you blokes say. I super heavy duty utility trailer with the fold out tents and such I have visited 4 times and taken trips out of Alice and Darwin with those units never a problem .
Thank God you were not hurt!!!! Thank you for posting this video, I am in process of researching and looking for my first camper/RV, and this video is very helpful! Thank you and good luck!
We were so thankful to not get hurt, it could've been so bad for us and others on the road! Thank you for the kind words and best of luck with your search.
Thank you so much for using your platform to spread awareness about this issue! I was very interested in purchasing a Black Series trailer as a first, but now it’s back to the drawing board.
Thank you for watching, this response is why we made the video. We want prospective buyers to know the truth. If you see the other comments, there are countless other owners who have had similar issues. We will update the channel with any & all developments!
I'm glad you shared this post and kept me from the purchase of this trailer. I figured there were problems waiting on them to arise the trailer looked to good to be true
I was convinced that the hq19 was the camper for me. After hearing about your experience, I’m looking elsewhere. Thanks so much for sharing your experiences. It will save a lot of people nightmares
WOW! So glad you saw this video before making a purchase, much like so many others who have already commented. Best of luck on your camper search and thank you for watching!
We have a 2022 HQ21. No major issues yet and let's hope it stays that way. They sent us some minor parts, but also promised to send others that were out of stock. I never heard from them again. We just know we're on our own now. We didn't buy a cheap trailer because we wanted peace of mind. That plan didn't work out because we'll always wonder if something will go wrong on our trips from DFW to Padre Island National Seashore.
That’s really unfortunate that they did not follow through with the parts y’all needed. You’re right about the expectation for the price, that combined with the lack of communication when we had our multitude of issues was so frustrating. We truly hope your trailer is problem free on all of your travels but take a look at some of the things we highlighted in the video to make sure it’s as mechanically sound as possible. Best wishes on all of future adventures and thank you for watching!
This is what I look for before making a big purchase, an honest and genuine run down of what previous owners had experienced, thank you for sharing your experience. I am in the market of buying one of these units, I know it doesn’t matter what brand or manufacturer I buy from, things can and do break, but it was your customer service ordeal that’s making me reconsider, thanks again and I hope things work out for you!
We are very thorough when we research a purchase but this incident is when we realized why we never found information online about failures or customer service. It’s unfortunate that we had to experience this with our trailer but we are happy that we have this platform to spread the message and help other owners and potential buyers. Thanks for watching!
Hey, you should take your story to Liz Amazing. She's building a fire under manufacturers and dealers. Check her out. She's interviewing people for just this sort of thing. Sorry to hear about your troubles. I've seen these rigs and envied them. Not any more.
Thank you for introducing us to her channel. We will contact her, seems like a perfect cross-platform/page opportunity to spread the word. And yes, nothing to envy at all!
@@texastotableHahaha - well, your channel has its own charm, and she's been doing it for awhile. Think of the audience you'll reach. I hope she reaches out to you. Keep doing what you're doing. I watched your pinned intro with interest - oh to be young again! And with more money...
Wow, you lot are utterly exhausted, at the mean & deliberately nasty manufacturers - of that hunk of junk. It's a wonder they are still able to sell anything, let alone walk free, instead of getting their heads forced under one of their malfunctioning trailer campers? I thought everyone in America held a handgun, just for dealing with such arrogant delinquent people as those, instead of them volunteering to be the to be participating in the being, of the target practice signage, so that all you discouraged owners, can "fill them with lead" ????
Thank you, my dad said the same thing. Couldn’t believe I was able to tell the entire story so calmly. Believe me, when we were stuck in Colorado I was furious with their lack of communication/assistance but delivering this message was so important to my wife and I for us to let other owners and potential owners aware of potential problems. Thanks so much for watching!
Thank you thank you thank you! We were looking to buy a Black Series Camper. You have undoubtably saved us much heartache and money!!! Thank you! WILL NOT CONSIDER ANYTHING MADE BY THEM
I bought an RV from a large dealer in Mesa, AZ that had a lot of different "adventure" style trailers. When I asked the RV technician why the dealer didn't have Black Series, he snorted and said, "We won't go near them." I didn't pursue it any further - now, I know.
Thankfully, this video showed up on my feed. Went from negotiating a price on a black series to a hard pass. Grand design are also on the list of manufacturers that failed on standing behind defective units.
Unfortunately the owner killed the name and reputation of Black Series. It WAS a great brand. I knew this was the direction the company was headed. I’m surprised they are still in business. I’m glad I left the company when I did.
Totally agree! The company had a stellar reputation prior to Jack. You’re likely not surprised to see so many other owners in the comments with similar issues. What was your role with Black Series, Daryn?
Glad I did my research, even happier that you put this video together. Will be crossing Black Series off my list after seeing this video (and others). Thank you and good luck!
This has me thinking one should pop off the dust caps on any new or used trailer purchase and check the wheelbearings, inspect the cotter pin, tightness of spindle nut, etc. The few minutes spent could pay big dividends and might give you a little insight into what you're getting yourself into. There should be no way this assembly can catastrophically fail without warning. :(
We all make mistakes, its how we deal with our mistakes that is the best judge of our character. Engineering a cutting edge system that has issues is nothing unusual, throwing the customer to the wolves and pretending the problem does not exist is inexcusable in my op. Thanks for making this video.
Funny that your video popped up in my feed. I work in the City of Industry and drive past the Black Series lot every day and I see that there's always a ton of trailers sitting there. And they keep some of their inventory in a remote lot that some of the nearby car dealerships use for overflow. I've always wondered how the company survives if they can't sell anything.
OMG, my heart is sinking. I just bought a 22' HQ19 back last November. I haven't had any problems yet besides a few cosmetic issues. My mind is telling me to take it to a local dealer and have them inspect the hub assembly. I hope this don't become a huge money pit.
We truly hope you don't have any issues with your HQ19 but it is important for us to spread the word about our experience. Get your hubs checked immediately and be sure to test EVERYTHING prior to your 1yr warranty expiring so you can have issues addressed. Best of luck and happy camping! Thank you for watching
I'm really grateful I came across this video. I came onto youtube today to look for some black series walkthroughs and reviews because what's available on their website is just tv commercials. I've had a Lance truck camper for years and I really love it, but I've been thinking about something more spacious and with actual storage so that I can go out on longer trips. but after watching your and other video and reading comments, this brand is so far off the table now. thank you so much for sharing this info
So happy you saw this video in time. There are some good trailers out there but these are riddled with issues and poor build quality mixed with little to no quality control. Obviously our service after the sale experience was horrid, so we can’t recommend these. Best of luck in your search and thank you for watching!
You just helped me dodge a bullet, I was about to pull the trigger on one of these trailers so happy I saw this the salesman called me back after I saw this and I told him no way would I buy one after seeing it.
I wanted to say Kudos on a video well done. I was like you when I was looking to purchase an offroad travel trailer and researched for months including talking to RV's of America, who at the time was the largest Black series dealer in the country. Like you my wife and I thought the Black series checked alot of the boxes for what we were looking for in our 1st RV which we planned on keeping for a very long time. I live in TN and did not want to go all the way to Utah to look at these Black series trailers, so I found a local dealer here in NC who had a few in stock. I am someone who in addition to doing research wants to see what I am buying in person, crawl around in it, under it on top of it, etc. It was Fall 2020 right in the middle of Covid when we purchased our HQ15 in October. We took the camper home and spent our first night camping in our drive way and were using the propane heater because it was cool outside. Somewhere in the middle of the night we heard a beeping and when i checked the AIMS panel, I saw that the batteries were completely drained......WTH right? (4) 100A batteries dead after only using them for a few hours. I started looking around and opened the battery compartment only to find that only (2) of the (4) batteries were connected. I emailed the dealer and they were not very responsive at first asking them why this was not checked before they sent us home with the trailer. this also got me thinking that what else was not connected or configured properly. I focused on the POS solar charger contoller and was able to find the manual for it online and when I went thru the settings found that it was not even configured properly, wrong battery type and it was even in debug mode.. I connected all (4) batteries and made the changes to the solar charger controller and the batteries were charging and everything appeared to be working ok. we took it camping in Dec 2020 and found several things that were problems. the outdoor kitchen faucet was contastly running, outdoor motion light on/off button did not work and the right front bash bar was missing a weld mount to the frame, so the brace underneath was just hanging. we took the camper back to dealer in January 2021 to have all these things addressed under warranty and they took care of everything except having mount welded. They told me they did not employee a welder and I said fine, how about getting a local welder to do it & they said they did not have any locally. I said BS to this because welders are everywhere, but they simply did not want to pay for it. I emailed the owner and my sales rep about how disappointing their service dept was and that this was unacceptable after the money I spent on this new trailer. we started camping once a month and had several other issues. one of the metal rims on the trailer developed a leak in the weld, so it was a good thing that they put (2) spares on the back. I haven't really taken if off-road but (2) more of the rims went down with the same issue leaking at the rim. the bathroon faucet also started leaking and the steps stopped working. I contacted the dealer and this time got a lady who helped me out and sent warranty claims to Black series who sent me replacement wheels, complete step assembly, but the first faucet was not even the correct thing, so I purchsed one on Amazon because I was tired of dealing with them. Black series does not even know what parts they are using in an HQ15. ridiculous! After researching the basic steel rims that came with this trailer i found out that these rims were NOT rated to hold the weight of this camper. They were rated for 1500lbs, so they thought that 2 rims with a combined rating of 3000lbs was a good idea to put on a trailer whose unit weight is 4722lbs and GVWR is 6000lbs. It does not make sense. I decided to put some Fuel offroad wheels on it and have not have any problems since. I read a few blogs from other Black series owners who said to get rid of the crappy solar charger controller, so I installed a Victron 30A which has bluetooth and makes it easy to monitor the solar system and betteries. now, fast forward to July 2022 when I noticed that the batteries were not holding a charge and that they drained very quickly and would not even last thru the night just running a small fan and some outdoor low voltage lights. I took the batteries to have tested and all (4) were shot because they were only putting out around 5-9 amps. I contacted Black series and actually got to talk to someone and explained my situation, but he said there was nothing he could do since I was technically our of the 2 year warranty. I told him that because the batteries were not hooked up correctly from the factory or at the dealer and neither was the solar charger controller this is what lead to the batteries lasting barely 2 years. The GEL batteries do not like being drained past a certain point or it can ruin them which is exactly what happened the night we camped in our driveway. After much research, I decided to go with lithium batteries, so another $2600 on a camper that was not quite (3) years old. I know this was very long winded of me, but I do not have any kind of social media and thought I would share my trials and tribulations as a very disapointed Black series owner. I do NOT recomend Black Series to anyone! Total POS that is made primarlity in China using crappy parts and cheap labor and Black Series customer service is non-existant.........Oh, I alomost forgot one other thing that happened. in 2023 the Poly block fell apart from driving down the Interstate because other than taking it in a grassy field, I have not even taken it offroad yet. It is unimagineable to me that this camper will handle any offroad terrain without putting thousands of dollars into upgrades. $700 for a MChitch
Sorry to hear about your bad experience, especially when you’re on vacation. You need to throw this organization so far under the bus they never see the light of day. The owner sounds like a jerkoff. Good job documenting and sharing your story, hopefully everyone considering this trailer will see this. I wish you the best and thank you for your honesty.
This kind of story is all too common and is just heartbreaking. I have owned a factory built RV. Never again. I am at this moment sitting in the Mojave desert in my cargo trailer to RV conversion that I built myself. If there was ever an industry begging for government regulation, it is the RV industry. It is hard to believe that RV companies are allowed to sell such crap to their customers, and then disappear when the inevitable problems arise.
Just stumbled on this video never seeing a HQ21 camper but coming from an engineering standpoint there are a few things that absolutely need to be looked at. The grease they are using looked inadequate from factory. As you said highly contaminated. The spindle size likely should be increased. normal trailers transfer load to the opposite side due to a solid axle design, These are receiving a twisting force likely causing excessive heat on the outer bearing. Their design is great for front loads but is extremely weak from any side loading. A great example is the front suspension on a old VW beetle. Many buggies use the stock front end for their linear strength. These spindles should come stock from the factory with Bearing spacers. Those that dont know, a bearing spacer helps to reduce compressive load on the main bearing surface and extremely reducing rolling resistance. A side note, everyone should be installing bearing spacers on their trailers. There is no downside and will help improve the life of the bearing and fuel economy. I dont work for the guys, but check out DRP bearing spacers. they are awesome. As for lubricants, switch to a NLGI 2 Calcium sulfonate grease. Synxtreme 2 is a great option. You can even mix in Molybendium powder at a 10% concentration to help increase lubricity.
I’m no engineer but with my racecar experience I knew there was A LOT lacking so thank you for breaking that down. We will look into the suggestions you made for our next trailer. Thank you for watching!
Airstream owner here. Seems the RV / trailer industry has a few issues around quality. We had a few on our 2015 23' trailer bought new but nothing like yours. (Rattles, fuses, fan failure, battery short life, etc.) Good on you for sharing. Hope things go better down the road.
Wow, glad I found you guys. I was actually considering getting one of these. Looks like customer service is garbage, which is the most important thing when it comes to a purchase like this. Thanks for the candid post.
I'm not even sure how I came about this video but I'm glad I did. I was seriously looking at one of these. I think I will take a hard pass now after hearing about all the issues. Even if the kinks get fixed the relationship (lack of) from the manufacturer is ruined.
We are happy you found the video and this was exactly why we posted it. We don’t want anyone to experience what we did, especially with the cost of these trailers. The number of other owners who have commented about having similar issues is eye-opening. You are better off with another brand/manufacturer. Thanks for watching and good luck with your search!
Just wanted to put this out there I have had the same situation not the axels but I was wondering if everyone could get together maybe we could file a lawsuit against them. I bought a brand new trailer and it’s been at the dealership for 8 months waiting there for parts. Thank you for the video glad I am not the only one. We also shouldn’t put up with this anymore
This is absolutely an option, Jake. If you look through the comments you will see quite a few other owners with various issues. We would love to talk more about your experience and issues. Please email us, texastotable at gmail.com
If you do this, I suggest getting to City of Industry dealership and walk around the building and take videos of hundreds of dilapidated trailers missing all sorts of stuff. It would be perfect evidence! I was just there last Monday Feb 14th looking at the HQ21 Patio series!

Par for the course in the RV industry, but it does suck that a small boutique company like BS is going the same route as the rest of the mass market brands.
Contact your state attorney generals' office, please. And, understand, with rare exception, your experience is rapidly becoming the norm in the RV industry. I've been thinking of buying a camper van. After joining a forum and seeing how many problems there were and how often owners were doing their own repairs, I decided to switch gears and look at camper trailers. I'm currently evaluating several manufacturers of fiberglass shell campers. They're not cheap, but from what I've read thus far, the reviews are decidedly thumbs up.
We knew we had to document it all with the camera and I’m so glad we did. Telling a story is one thing but backing it up with video evidence goes a long way and we believe that’s why this video is helping so many people see the truth. Thanks for watching!
Anyone looking to buy blackseries should research outdoors, RV or Nash. They’re both made by Northwoods. I bought it after having a short stint with a no boundaries trailer. I have a 2022 23 DBS. It doesn’t look the part of a black series, it doesn’t have the cool factor, but it is literally indestructible and at a lower price point.
I considered a Black Series but had a bad feeling on them and especially bad feeling on the Ember camper. The best I find for quality and price was the MDC built from Australian off-road experience, I'm picking mine up in the near future. Thanks for this video and sorry you had to go through this after paying good money. Best of luck!
We agree. They had a lot of opportunities to do the right thing. Great concept of a trailer, but sadly the company and (lack of) quality control just aren’t worth it.
We are happy we can help other owners as well as those considering these trailers. The situation was bad but at least we have this channel where we can share our story. Thanks for watching!
Everyone has issues, it is ho you address them that matters. Hiding from your customers, lengthy delays, not sending things and saying you did. That is unacceptable. We all know RV customer service sucks in general. I try to stick with the common parts for easy sourcing. The only worse than maintaining and RV is a custom fabricated RV, lol! I had a bad experience with my Keystone. First of all the dealer was committing tax fraud. When I took it back for warranty the Feds had chained his gates shut and posted seizure notices on the fence. The other frustrating part is the dealer network is anything but a network. Many have a policy that if you didn't buy it from them you go to the back of the line, or no service at all. The definition of RV kind of implies that you will be traveling when you need support... If my Ford breaks down anywhere in the USA I expect the nearest dealer to help me out. If my Husky tool fails I expect the nearest Home Depot to warranty it. I had faith in Grand Design when they first came to the market. They said they would require their dealers to service all of their customers regardless of where they took delivery. Now you see the frame flex all over UA-cam. If you're not the original owner under the first 12 months they don't support you then either! Sad state of customer service we are living in... Better luck on your next rig!
We don't know but it definitely needs to happen! These trailers are dangerous and the amount of people that have already commented about their own issues in just a few days of this video being posted is more than we expected

Sounds like a huge nightmare.

This is insane. Thank you for spreading the word. This company should not
be in business.
The company has zero business ethics and these trailers are flat our dangerous! Thank you for watching
I know a couple from Argentina with a lot of problem like this
They have a UA-cam channel in Spanish Totalmente Perdidos....they have maybe more than 100 thousands subscriber..they driven the Black Series for free and the first trip to Alaska the TT have a few issues.
They are out of business I think. So you had an issue with the axle now you’re super pissed. It’s fixed right? Any other major issues?
I worked at a dealership for 10 years and you wouldn't believe how many trailers are shipped without grease in the wheel bearings... crackheads on the line have to go run a line or take a shit so that axle don't get grease. It doesn't get checked during a pdi either. First thing you do when you buy a RV is re-pack the wheel bearings and monitor the shit out of them. I now haul new RVs to dealers and i check the temp on the hubs a few times in the first 100 miles until im comfortable... these new rv's are junk... windows fall out, vents blow off, etc.
This is the best piece of advice possible.
Is it best to not buy one at all?
The entire industry is crap with prices astronomically through the roof. I live full-time in a '98 Lance cabover camper. I purchased it used and have zero issues with it other than normal maintenance, which I am diligent about. The new Lance campers have no storage and are overpriced. I'll keep mine, thank you very much.
@@rouxchat6033 Lance's are a rare good one
This dosnt only apply to wheel bearings but all bearings these days from China seem to have buggar all grease in them. For example Bicycles from the big retailers always have no grease. The bearings seem fine but without grease they dont last long.
I almost bought one . Luckily, the owner of the dealership informed me of all the problems and recommended surveyor legend.
That person did you a solid by steering you away from these!
I just called them, said I had been thinking about buying one of their trailers but that I had seen your video describing your experience with them and that after seeing it I was changing my mind. The guy on the phone told me (as he was tripping all over his words) that they did try to help you, but that they are understaffed so... And this is why we bought an ESCAPE trailer. They were the ONLY company we could find that had any real professionalism and proven quality. The industry as a whole is a pile of *^%(*^).
100% Truth!!!
That's one we're looking at or LAir Camper, since it's made locally to us.
This sounds like a no maintenance and a " drive it till it breaks " issue.
My Escape was riddled with issues. The scariest is that one of the trailer brake wires was barely connected.

Here in Australia both Mars and Black series are considered junk.

Seriously y’all should consider a class action lawsuit.

FB is for lefty soccer moms.

But they sell several a week .So far in 12 months they have only found one fault and that was for a poor paint job which was rectified.
There are three other companies in my area still importing from CCP land ,and I've seen them stacked three high as they get unloaded from the containers. Buy local ,support local .

That is the exact reason we made this video. Best of luck in your search for a camper. Thanks so much for watching!
Thanks, I’ve been looking at these, about to make a purchase this spring and it won’t be one of those.
Good for you for making this video! It is important to get this message out there for people considering this manufacture.
Thank you! After our experience it was important to us that we share this message so any potential buyers as well as current owners know about this. Thanks for watching
Thanks for making this video. Sucks it happened to you but you're a good man for preventing it from happening to more people.
Wow, I am in Australia and I was thinking of getting a smaller version, now thanks to your video we can keep our money. Well done on the video.
You definitely want to look elsewhere, there are much better options. Thanks for watching and best of luck on your search!
Strangely the company in Dandenong is temporarily closed 😊
I like your style of off road caravans as you blokes say. I super heavy duty utility trailer with the fold out tents and such I have visited 4 times and taken trips out of Alice and Darwin with those units never a problem .
Guys, thank you so much for your time and dedication - I'm positive lots of RVers appreciate the information you provided!
We really hope this video helps people. Thanks for watching!
Glad to know the video helped. Best of luck with your search, there are better options out there! Thanks for watching
I hope you will keep us updated if there is any legal action you can take. I was eye ballin' these trailers and thank god I saw your video first..👍
Thank you for watching, this response is why we made the video.
Thank you so much for the heads up on this deplorable company! My search for a off road trailer is reduced by one!
Wow, what a good timing. Im almost bummed to hear this bc i was dead set on buying the hq21 next month.
Thanks for watching- I hope this was helpful for you. Good luck in all your endeavors. 🙏🏻
Wow!
Thank you so much!
I have passed this video along to my friends in the market.
Thank you! Hope it helps them make a decision
@@Michaelw777.52 It will be a huge help for reach! Thank you
Wow, you lot are utterly exhausted, at the mean & deliberately nasty manufacturers - of that hunk of junk.
Love keyboard warriors
What a well spoken guy ! I’m afraid I wouldn’t be as calm as him, that is terrible service ! Thanks for your review and good luck 👍
Thanks for this video. I was planning to buy one. Don't need this headache
We are so glad you saw this video before deciding to purchase! Best of luck with your camper search and thank you for watching
Thank you thank you thank you! We were looking to buy a Black Series Camper.
You have undoubtably saved us much heartache and money!!!
Thank you!
WILL NOT CONSIDER ANYTHING MADE BY THEM
Thank you for watching and best of luck on your camper search!
I bought an RV from a large dealer in Mesa, AZ that had a lot of different "adventure" style trailers. When I asked the RV technician why the dealer didn't have Black Series, he snorted and said, "We won't go near them." I didn't pursue it any further - now, I know.
He saved you from a nightmare ownership experience
we've been looking at buying one of these for almost a year now and we're just about to pull the trigger next month. thanks dude you're a real one
Sorry that happened to you! I was wondering why the prices were dropping on these units all over the place. Now I know! Thanks!
Thank you for sharing this! This trailer was at the top of my list for a trailer this year, and THANK GOD you gave me a heads up!
Thankfully, this video showed up on my feed. Went from negotiating a price on a black series to a hard pass. Grand design are also on the list of manufacturers that failed on standing behind defective units.
Glad you saw this video before it was too late! Thanks for watching
Thanks for your video on your experience with this camper. I had an initial interest in these, but with this I am completely rethinking it.

Thank you for spreading the word.
I was considering this brand at one point in my search.
I feel bad for you and am lucky that I passed on that junk.
i think the way i've seen the way people have been having issues with all the new trailers kind of makes me glade i refuse to let go of my 1973 argosy
So sorry for all your troubles with the RV. Glad I saw this video , I was almost going to buy one .
You dodged a bullet! Thanks for watching
sad... sorry to hear this..... I went with an Outdoors RV myself....2022 24KRS so far so good...
Well, with all the dealerships dropping them, it looks like you’ll be seeing their inventory in those lots for a long time!
@otable ....or until it's sold off at the foreclosure sale!
Thanks for posting this! I was in the market for one of these. Going a different direction now!
Dont take it to a dealer take it to a trusted mechanic and suspension workshop
I'm probably going to do it myself, doesn't look too hard. @@donaldo1974
Thank you for the insight ! I don’t think I’ll be buying anything from Black Series anything !!!
Stay Away!
You just helped me dodge a bullet, I was about to pull the trigger on one of these trailers so happy I saw this the salesman called me back after I saw this and I told him no way would I buy one after seeing it.
Glad you found the video in time. There are much better options out there. Best of luck on your search and thank you for watching!
Thanks for the honest heads up!
Thank you for watching! 🙏🏽
Thanks for the update. We I guess we have some rethinking on purchasing a black series
Thanks for watching- I hope this was helpful. Wishing all the best on your endeavors!

The owner sounds like a jerkoff.
Good job documenting and sharing your story, hopefully everyone considering this trailer will see this.

THANK YOU!!!! I was just checking these out with the wife, it’s OFF THE LIST NOW!!
I feel your pain. My wife and I visited their warehouse in Utah. I have to admit they were a littel snooty.
Glad I found your channel. Saved me a lot of money and headaches. Thank you 🙏 I’ll be sure to share this with my friends.

I’m so sorry for your horrible experience but I thank you for sharing it. I’m shopping for an ‘off road’ trailer and Black Series is now off the list.
Thank you for watching/commenting. Happy to hear this video helped you with your selection.
Oliver. Expensive...but evidently quality in the RV industry is hard to find and Oliver seems to deliver.
Nice job documenting everything. I don't know how anybody could send out those shocks and sleep well at night. Unbelievable.
We knew we had to document it all with the camera and I’m so glad we did. Telling a story is one thing but backing it up with video evidence goes a long way and we believe that’s why this video is helping so many people see the truth. Thanks for watching!
Glad I saw this. What they charge for a camper you'd think customer service would be stellar.
We thought the same. It's a shame. Thanks for watching!
Your pup is living THE life. Great content!

Great video! Very sad that Black Series cares more about make an extra buck then insuring people are safe on the road.
We agree. They had a lot of opportunities to do the right thing. Great concept of a trailer, but sadly the company and (lack of) quality control just aren’t worth it.
Thank you for posting. I just crossed this brand of the list.

We’ll, I was considering the black series trailer but not now!
steer clear!
You are spreading the word. You definitely have something here.
You ever notice that all the major issues arise when it’s hunting season and you should be in the field! Smh…
How has this company not been investigated yet?
We don't know but it definitely needs to happen! These trailers are dangerous and the amount of people that have already commented about their own issues in just a few days of this video being posted is more than we expected
My local rv dealer use to sell Black Series, now they no longer have BS on their lot, what does that tell you? Black Series are made in China.
