    Seems like it would be nice for spot cleaning eye brushes since that will use a lot less of the product. Or like you said for travel. Alcohol will eventually break down the glue in the brush as well.

      Yep! I think that’s why they recommend just dipping the tip. Easier to do with less dirty brushes 😅

    My favourite habit I created regarding cleaning brushes was to wash them in the evening right after my skincare routine. I do that daily or every two days for the cream brushes and sponge (and eyeshadow ones if I used bright/ dark colours), and then once a week or so I add the remaining powder brushes.
    It takes me about 5 extra minutes in the evening, they dry overnight for the most part, and I don’t fuss with dirty brushes anymore. Plus the sponge gets to that perfect still full and bouncy yet slightly damp but not soaked state I love.
    I still have doubles of my faves and keep the dirty stuff separate, but it has reduced the burden immensely and I never had to deal with dozens of brushes to clean at once ever again :)

    I trained as a make up artist years ago and I found products like these were great for cleaning brushes I’d used powder on between clients to sanitise and remove excess colour however cream, liquid or stick products benefited from a shampoo at home

    Happy to just clean mine once a week with soap. Takes 10 mins. If I want to spot clean I would use micellaire water to do similar clean to this

    • @KitschSnitch
      @KitschSnitch  3 місяці тому +6

      Soap works great! Both methods you mentioned are technically deep cleaning methods because they wash the product out of the brushes instead of sanitising, and need time to dry. Spot cleaners dry almost instantly and the alcohol sanitises the brushes, which is why they are great for makeup artists 😊

      @@KitschSnitch absolutely. In fairness I have a mug full of brushes only and like you say you gotta do your sponge anyway and it was nice to see a sponge like mine on youtube - actually used. Enjoy your break x

    I use Cinema Secrets (similar concept) in a spray bottle but I only use it on eye brushes. I still shampoo my face brushes in the “traditional” way. I really enjoy it and clean my eye brushes every night when I’m doing my evening skin care. Face brushes get cleaned on the weekend when I have more time.

    I use the Cinema Secrets brush cleaner. One dip and the brush is spotless, it removes pigment stains, and it dries quickly. It’s $30 US, and lasts me a couple of months.

      It's not so cheap here haha. $74, for 946ml.
      I got my Saint Jack cleaner in the Black Friday sales in a pack with the 800ml brush cleaner, a makeup cleaning mist (to disinfect makeup) and the tin... ended up being $64.40. So it was a better deal than Cinema Secrets (in Aus), but without the sale Cinema Secrets is a more cost effective option that I might check out next time 😊

      There’s also Parian Spirit which is just like cinema secrets…maybe that’s cheaper in oz?? I basically only do my eye brushes this way BUT I do them every time I use them. I also put the cleaner it in a spray bottle because it helps save product and you can spray it deeper in the bristles.

      I'm so tempted by Cinema Secrets. I wish there was something like that without fragrance. That's so rare. No point washing my brushes if I'm just going to get pimples from trace fragrance. Atm I just use 70 or 100% isopropyl in a spray bottle for quick switch on small brushes (or on rare occasions Sigma F82 if I need it) but mostly Eco Tools cleanser and water, the new version of their brush cleaner is fragrance free. It's just painful bending over my far too low sink dipped in water for an hour :/

    • @taranullius9221
      @taranullius9221 3 місяці тому

      I wonder if it would work differently because CS is supposed to be more evaporative, right? That might help. Using fragrance soap/bars/cleanser is a no go w/washing 'cos there's always trace.

    I have some pricey natural bristle brushes but sometimes life happens and they’ve gotten FILTHY. I’ve used the Cinema secrets, which sounds identical to Saint Jack (rapid dry solvent with residual silicone and perfume), to do an initial clean bc it does dissolve makeup VERY thoroughly, but then I follow up with a gentle soap-based wash with water to remove the perfume and silicones left over, and then conditioner (with thorough rinsing) to protect the natural hair. I don’t trust such a strong solvent-based product that clearly leaves residue (silicones) not to creep up the bristles and dissolve the glue - if it dissolves makeup that fast, it’s going to do a number on the glue, even more so than water!! Also I don’t want the residue on my face. That being said, I’m pretty sure the residual silicones are meant to protect the bristles/counteract the drying effect of the solvent (in this case ethanol), but in my experience it’s excessive and junks up my brushes that much faster. I DO see how useful it could be for a makeup artist on the go, having to clean and sanitize brushes daily - and the trade offs would be worth it in that context!

  • @victoriaryan1509
    @victoriaryan1509 3 місяці тому +2

    Sounds like IsoClean - I use that on foundation/ cream product brushes just prior to washing them and it means I can wash them faster. But I love washing my brushes 😊 MAC do a great spot cleaner which is much less harsh and easier on real hair brushes too. That's what I use every time I put my makeup on, as I can't stand using dirty brushes

    This product reminds me of Cinema Secrets cleaner available in the US, which someone else also mentioned, I prefer to use their spray bottle and just refill it with their bigger bottles. I think you waste less than with the dipping method. But I wouldn’t recommend using these kinds of cleaners for dense foundation/cream brushes because it doesn’t breakdown those types of products well. For eyeshadow brushes it is an excellent option, I am able to get all the pigment out of the bristles. I usually can get my blush and bronzer brushes fully clean as well because I only use powder varieties(it also depends on how often you clean them, if I wait too long to clean the bronzer brush builds up a lot of product). It also only comes in two very strong scents though.

      Yeah I was thinking about that one when I was talking about others on the market. It is available in Australia, but it is a similar price point to the Saint Jack one. Maybe when I finish up this bottle I will finally try that one! ❤

    I use this type of product for a quick clean on powder products. Also, it works well for foundation brushes that are being stubborn after a regular cleaning with product stuck deep inside the bristles. I use the cleaner and dip dip and what do you know? The foundation comes right out of those bristles.

    I use a product like this for spot cleaning eye brushes but I find it's not enough for face brushes, especially ones used for cream or liquid products. I actually use mine in a little spray bottle, spray the brush and rub it on a towel and all of the eyeshadow pigment is totally gone!

I still deep clean them every couple weeks, but they always feel clean doing this, and its very cheap to make at home ❤️

    I've used the Cinema Secrets spot cleaner before, and it has the same concept. I mainly used it for eye brushes. If I were to use it for my face brushes, it was when traveling right after using them to minimize the build-up but not as my actual cleaning. Those larger brushes can soak up a lot of product, and that stuff was not cheap for a younger me.

  • @WolffBlurr

    I’ve been doing something similar, but I just use a little spray bottle with 70% isopropyl alcohol. I keep it with a microfiber towel by my vanity and spot clean after every or maybe every other use, and do a deep clean with a soapy cleaser every few weeks (rn I’m using the beauty blender solid, but whenever that’s gone I’ll probably just use a regular soap bar)

  • @valeriebumblebee7607

    I use an ultrasonic cleaner with a good brush cleaner. No work at all for most of the brushes. Just the foundation brushes need a little more work on it, as you don'treally need to rub them. And they get super, super clean and not harsh on the brushes at all. I just throw them in and wait a couple of minutes.

  • @DeannasWorld

    I use Cinema Secrets. Got it on sale for $55. I really only is it as a spray after each use clean and don’t wait till my brushes get super dirty. Then every now and then, I do a wash with soap and water. I hate washing my brushes with soap and water, so using the spray after each use helps extend the time between washes.

      Yeah thats what want to try to do. Realistically if I just have a handful of brushes they are much quicker to regularly clean with whichever method I use. I am going to try to only keep maybe 10 brushes out and try to remember to clean them every Sunday night. Realistically it should only take less than 10min if they aren't very dirty (and if I wash my sponges throughout the week - which I tend to do). *puts away excess brushes as I type*

    If you want a spray bottle cleaner I just use the Mecca one it works well for that sort of spot clean and the fragrance is pretty mild. This product seems like a middle ground between a spot cleaning brush spray & an actual proper water and soap deep clean just not sure whether it would clean more throughly than the spray or not?

    Does the ingredients say it contains alcohol? I wonder if it is isododecane (solvent)? Isododecane was the ingredient in the Beautyblender Instaclean brush spray which has been discontinued. I love that spray, and bought 3 backup cans, now down to my last one 😭😭. I spot-clean my brushes right away after using them, except I do my foundation ones at the sink instead. I really want another brush spray, but this one is not shipping outside Australia, though the site says "working on it." If it contains liquid alcohol, I don't know how they can air ship it, such a product is ground shipping only in US. One more 😭😭 for my last can...

    I don’t like this at all - it doesn’t clean well, is more hassle than proper washing and brushes are not safely dry straight away. I had then worst makeup application at Sephora when the ‘artist’ (stretching it a lot) spot cleaned her brushes in alcohol immediately before my booking. The whole experience was awful - the brushes burnt my face, under my eyes and eyelids. She claimed the brushes were dry within minutes but they were not properly dry at all. And I don’t think they were even clean! I went home to wash my face and ended up being late to my event.
