Playing "Travle" but the countries are ridiculously far apart [Travle Country Routes #2]

- We're back with some more addictive Travle, but this time we take it up a few notches.
Travle is a game that tests your border knowledge by asking you to travel from one country to another in the shortest route possible, i.e. through the least amount of countries. Sometimes the shortest route is not the one that you thought it would be...
Here are the links to today's games just incase you want to give them a go before I do!

TOM! YOU WEREN'T RECORDING!
Damn, I knew it would happen eventually.
This is what happens when he doesn't check, dammit!
what are you talking about
“I haven’t got a good photographic memory”
Proceeds to recognise every single country just by their shapes.
That’s not very impressive though
Does not remember a world map at all though.
photographic memory is about recalling the visual rather than recognizing the visual
so if you asked him to draw Timor Leste, he would struggle, but he can recognize it if you present it to him
@@lzombietiger9200disagree, I'm pretty shit at worldle if it's not a major country
@@mr.cook5 just takes some practice and grinding bro. Sporcle geography quizzes are pretty cool for that
Tom: Sees single pixel on an empty map
Tom: "That's equatorial Guinea,"
So…? I’m 11 years old and I knew that was Equatorial Guinea.
@@lzombietiger9200 It's a good idea not to tell strangers on the internet your age, when you're a kid.
@@lzombietiger9200that’s nothing, I’m 8 years old and I knew it was Equatorial Guinea. I’ve memorized every country and their locations
@@edanlewis5831rookie numbers, I am 3 years old and have memorized every country on earth as well as all their their 1st division provinces.
@@SimonDoer a noobie I see. I haven’t came out of the womb and I know every country + every photo in GeoGuessr exactly.
This video comes at the PERFECT timing! I was just about to start planning the logistics of my journey on foot from Namibia to Mongolia. Now I know which way to go! Thank you Tom.
Going via Russia seems like the perfect route
And you also don't like foreign countries, so going through as few as possible would be preferable.
Geschichten ausm Paulanergarten
Tom you should do the weekly challenges, it sometimes has an excluded country to force a different route, or only following the coast, it is much more challenging then the regular game. Can't wait for the England videos!! Cheers
Or only go one direction along the coast making you take the long way around.
Yeah I just played the weekly challenge today. Route from Lichtenstein to South Korea without using Russia.
One week the task was to go from Ukraine to turkey iirc without crossing the Danube river. That one was one of the hardest in my opinion
@@Dan-gc7is but that sounds quite easy: Ukraine -> moscovia -> Georgia -> turkey
@@SwordQuake2 no, you had to follow the river upstream without crossing it, so all the way to Germany and back down
Some of your "easier" videos playing these browser challenges and puzzles are my favorites!
Don't worry about your content not being fun enough because you're now busy with editing. I've been watching your channel for literally 8-9 years now, since your beginning, and I have not missed a single video yet. Anything you release is always fun because of your personality, even if you think the content isn't as interesting as you think it should be. So don't worry, you've been doing really good for literally almost a decade now and I still watch every single one of your videos 😊💯
agree 100%
@@mrowl-the-dsm1304 its a bot
You're a legend Tom. Big fan of both the geowizard and adventure videos.
But...were you recording?
the UI on this game looks great! especially the spherical geometry shifting when panning so beautiful
Literally went to my subs to see if he'd uploaded so i could watch something with my breakfast and it said "20 seconds ago" damn lol
You're either having a late breakfast or are in some god forsaken time-zone that I can't picture right now.

@@CaptainHoratioPugwash I’m on the west coast of the US, but yeah it was an 11am breakfast 😅
He uploaded just for you. As a treat.

To be honest, I love the balance in your channel, Tom. Easier to edit, fun games and every now and the an epic challenge. Don't stress too much, Tom, we don't want to see you get burned out or anything like that!
the greater of the sudans 😂😂
"Starting another war" made me laugh out loud
It makes sense, its the correct term to describe sudan as the larger of the two 😉
"Just kidding." 🤣
It made me happy because I’m from Sudan 😂😂
Just for your information the countries turning "yellow" doesn't mean that you are right it just means that you connected that country with the starting country. That's why russia was still dark in the first game because you hadn't connected it to namibia. So getting a tick or a orange or red doesn't correlate with the countries turning yellow
I've played it 119 times since you first recommeded it Tom. I prefer it now that you have to get it in the right order. I've never failed, though I often take more guesses than necessary.
Around the same number 😂 although i found it from Northerliom before Tom, despite following Tom for ages and only finding NL last year.
Anyway, I never use hints and am proud of my scores, but starting out - if anyone has a hard time, probably use the “country outline” hint and you’ll commit more of the globe to memory!
This game teaches you some things I call “pipelines”. There are the essential ones that you are forced to take, like Egypt to Israel (then usually Syria, Turkey…depending)
But there are also the quickest route “pipelines” that come up over and over like Russia-Norway-Denmark-Germany for Asia to (north) west Europe. This video made me see that there is an equally fast “pipeline” via Russia-Belarus/Ukraine-Poland-Germany!
Also Niger is a huge asset in many cases for getting to so many of the small countries of coastal West Africa. And Mali is usually the next step (except you have to go Burkina Faso instead for Ghana and Togo)
These pipelines are nearly-trivial knowledge, but a fun concept to have built up knowledge for me 😄
It's pretty trivial in terms of likelihood of actually ever taking these routes, but it is fantastic for remembering which countries border other countries!
I forgot about this game! It was fun thinking along with you, I noticed I've learned so much about geography watching your videos!
Whenever I’m feeling down I just watch some of your videos and I immediately fell better, thank you and keep it up!
great video, looking forward to the straight line mission videos 🫡
I could almost certainly figure out the routes, but I don't recognise the countries you begin from 😂 No idea how you can just tell from those shapes like that!
My tactic was: Type in Russia and lets get an idea where the hell we are. Worked pretty well
@@Phorenice Yep, I've been playing for a few days now and ended up using the exact same tactique 🤣 Half the time russia is needed anyways, so it's often not a wasted guess. It's still very rare for me to recognise a country from the shape. I've had a couple that are too small to even see, one was the Vatican and the other one Macau.
@@durabelleplay Worlde (notice the L.. not Wordle lol) to brush up on country shapes! It’s super fun and quick - 1 shape per day, and if you’re wrong, the feedback you get for your next guess is how far away and in what direction.
These two games play perfectly together to increase your geography knowledge. I’m pretty good at both ONLY because each one has helped the other!
@@Michael-kp4bd I actually did play Worldle (notice both Ls, it has two 😄) for a while, but it only taught me to use the distances, not the shape or bordering countries. It's a fun game though, I only stopped because it's one of those one game a day things, I can never keep them up for long.
@@durabelle welp it shows you the shape of a country and you have to guess it. If you don’t attempt to commit it to memory or try on the first guess, you won’t gain much. I just found that format to complement Travle perfectly, specifically for learning shapes (the thing you wondered how he is good at)
Travle is also a 1 a day thing, so I’d assume you would easily play one immediately after the other like I do, but idk. Maybe if you only play Travle like you have been for a few days, you’ll also start to recognize shapes after seeing them a few times 🤷♂️
I feel robbed that my knowledge of Russia bordering Poland because of the Kaliningrad exclave was not rewarded!
im very excited for the straight line across england vids tom. lovely work! doesnt matter its a tiddly vid, we love our tom action on a friday night! have a good weekend mate!!!
All the best Tom, have a good one. Looking forward to your next adventure!
Really good watch mate, you can always sprinkle in the ocassional travle videos! :)
Started playing travle because of your videos and improving everyday on the Germany map which is absolutely insane because no one knows all the municipalities.
Anyone else think he should do some Travle weekly games? It's the same concept but more in-depth.
It took me,
#1: 13 guesses, Angola>republic of congo>democratic republic of congo>south sudan>sudan>egypt>israel>jordan>syria>turkiye>iran>afghanistan>china (I always forget about using russia as a shortcut)
#2: 10 guesses (remembered russia this time), N. Korea>Russia>Georgia>Turkiye>Syria>Israel>Egypt>Libya>Chad>Cameroon
#3: 12 guesses (russia meta), uk>france>germany>poland>belarus(why the poland russia border didn't count I don't know)>russia>china>vietnam>laos(forgot laos directly bordered china so went vietnam first)>thailand>malaysia>indonesia
I'm pretty happy with that, love travle.
Really great little video. SO looking forward to the England mission
Thanks for introducing me to this game, it's really been scratching my geographical itch for the last few hours!
while I am definitely looking forward to your next big adventure series (I found you through the first Wales attempt and have been watching since), these videos are pretty awesome as well
Next time you should try the UK map on Travle!
Your geography/map knowledge is unmatched Tom. Fair plays to you 🤝
I've been playing this game every morning for months. Absolutely love it. It gets easier with time.
Glad you got my message and got around to playing them! Cheers Tom!
Thank you for your videos, truly unique! Take care.
Very impressive last round!
This is great, please do more :)
What a guy. Waiting for the next adventure upload!
Love this game. Absolutely love this game.
Suprised I'm here this early, love your videos, Tom.
Fun game. Thanks for recommending!
I managed to get all three games and perfected the last one somehow. These were hard, would love to see more!
love this game you should play this more
Gets too easy, after a couple of rounds you figure out all the quickest routes
Thank you for the good video idea Nile
“Travley?!” Surely just travel but misspelled 😂
I got 11 guesses on each game, I guess all those hours obsessing over Seterra finally payed off lmao
PERFECT SCORE FOR GETTING IT IN ORDER TOM!
since you recorded that there now was an update so that the order matters! :) Makes it a bit harder.
Also you should have a look at the FAQ of travle, they listed why some oversea routes count and some don't. They technically count everything that has a bridge or tunnel (which is why denmark and sweden are connected, also France and england). They usually don't allow exclaves, but made an exception for Northern Ireland so that Ireland is also a possibility. But Kaliningrad, French Guyana etc don't count. Of course with indonesia and malaysia they count all islands, so that these can be used. And they also have some countries that are not recognized by most other countries, like Somaliland.
With Northern Ireland, hopping between unconnected parts of the same country works so long as that route doesn't take you any closer to any other country. That includes hopping the Irish sea and the islands of Malaysia and Indonesia. Because going from Kaliningrad to Russia proper does pass closer to other countries, that route isn't allowed.
I love this game a lot
I'm not so good at country names and positions in Africa so when I play Travle and start in Africa I usually work my way backwards instead. In the Namibia-Mongolia round, I would probably start off trying to get to Egypt through Russia > Georgia > Turkey > Syria > Israel, then work my way down. Namibia to Egypt is a lot easier to process mentally I find.
I'd never seen this game and now I'm obsessed. On the hard mode it's difficult, especially if you don't know either of the countries. I can recognise my stans but Central America is difficult for me. You always seem to end up going through Russia, Egypt, DR Congo or of course Panama
I like this game a lot
You should play Geogrid, feel like it could become a staple of the channel
Still waiting for "Are we recording?" merch.
if the maker of this website reads this: the country list should be to the right of the map, so you dont have to scroll every time imo
cool website btw
Video Suggestion: You should play a round of this game with the random country selection but only in Europe (I guess it would be more feasible), and then you have to do the route in real life as one of your adventures.
I challenge you to race Guernsey
great games
I love a Tiddly Vid.
Annoyed that they didn't count Kaliningrad
If that would've counted, would they not also need to make place like French Guiana count as France? It's probably better to keep it as contiguous as possible.
French Guiana would be great to allow bridging across the Atlantic
based on that logic you wouldn't be able to go from the UK to France.
@@jessebest5961 That's what the Chunnel accomplishes
@@ivy_47 So what bridge connects mainland Russia to Kaliningrad or Poland? The UK doesn't border France by land. The game is pretending if you traveled between the countries but it breaks its own rules because there's no bridge/tunnel between Northern Ireland and Britain.
Thats properly impressive
Travle is great!
I'd love to see a version which assigns you a passport and you have to take into account visas and waiting times 😂
enjoyed the video Tom, no need to apologize for the quick video when we know we have a FEAST coming
Made it to Mongolia with 15 guesses. A bit more complicated than necessary but still happy I found a way
@2:50 British man starts a war somewhere in the world. Iconic
hey Tom, are you familiar with the game Tradle? it's a game where you guess which country it is based on its exported goods. every time you make a guess you see how close you were and in which direction the country is in relation to your guess. you can only play it once per day though, but i think it'd make for an interesting video if you stacked some footage :D
If you want to make it a bit harder you can try to always write them in the correct order. Because starting on both ends tends to be a bit easier
so yeah, the game tells you to go from A to B, countries light up, when they're connected to A, regardless of whether they're part of the shortest route.
Russia there was a touch of genius Tom.
I just noticed a new show has been released called Thru: it's basically a straight line mission reality TV show by the looks of it, might be good.
Cool game
Well done Tom! Now give us the new straight line videos please! 😃
I wonder if any route through Africa would work for the Ireland-Timor-Leste... Since Algeria and Libya are so big, it feels like that could make the trip horizontally take fewer countries than going through Europe's smaller countries. Though I guess the key is just that Russia is such a useful bridge between Europe and east asia to then connect to the mandatory Indonesia. If only it counted something like Gibraltar for the UK lol
Travle: Kaliningrad isnt a border between Russia and Poland. Also Travle: I don't care about islands, they share borders with countries they don't share borders with😅
Exactly!
Good job, Tom! 🎉
GET. IN!
you need to play this game in the UK counties version
My guesses for the third round is UK, France, Germany, Poland, Russia, China, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, indonesia... Almost thinking of Belarus because i forgot about Kaliningrad
They also have a us states and a uk countys versions which would be interesting to see
I customized my own route and decided to find the longest possible shortest route between different countries and also started with Namibia, but decided to finish on South Korea instead of Mongolia.
namibia to mongolia: next up for hardest geezer
Equatorial Guinea to Korea has a fascinating back story. The first dictator of Equatorial Guinea sent his daughter to North Korea and abandoned her there
Was her name Kim?
They share having some of the worst human rights records and crazy cults of personality. Among company, Macías is somehow easily the most bonkers leader out of the lot. He at one point described himself as a "Hitlerian-Marxist". He also defenestrated his foreign minister, banned Western medicine and outlawed Christianity - because the previous regime of priests thanking the president before God and displaying a portrait of him didn't go far enough. Statisticians were repressed, probably because the statistics didn't show the country on that great of a path, and the director of the Institute of Statistics was dismembered. Similar to Pol Pot, he displayed a rather heavy disdain for glasses-wearers.
Only dropped a like coz you guilt tripped me -- I can't be the one who can't be arsed
Hi Tom, I'm from Sudan and can confirm it is the best Sudan
So, when are you doing your straight line challenge from Great Yarmouth to Aberystwyth?
I got Ireland to South Africa randomly one time and got it right like unneccesary choices
Travle is one of my daily games since it was on here last. I'm still rubbish at Welsh and Scottish counties, but I'm glad I'm not German. That's one's hard even with a map handy.
I have travle (world, UK and US (am rubbish with the Scottish counties, a bit better with Welsh and English)), and globle/globle capitals as my daily games
Try lesotho -> east timor thats the longest route I could find
Took me 16 for the first one, but #2 and 3 i got in 10 and 11 😁
Mongolia indeed doesn't border Kazachstan, there's a 20km stretch of Russo-Chinese border in between the two
Shame they don't count Kaliningrad. Oh this would be a tricky marvel if they had all the special nooks and crannies. Go UK->Spain via Gibraltar, to Morocco via Ceuta, and so on. Or through French Overseas Departments.
Next time, you should do one of those where you can't go through certain countries.
Flat earthers just go straight, obviously 😂
I'm sort of annoyed that the shortest route isn't the one you have to guess. it's the route with the fewest countries.
How does this work with oceans? Does the game not allow for routes between disconnected countries? Otherwise, the fastest route from Namibia to Mongolia would be international waters directly to russia or China.
❤🎉
So the uk boarders France but Russia doesn't boarder poland. Sure, makes perfect sense lol
Africa-Asia is ALWAYS via Egypt-Israel, and South to North America is always via Colombia-Panama.
