My father has a typical white Previa. This car wont die and he had it since 1992. He thinks this car will never die, but we are secretly hoping it does so he can get a new one. I wonder though if Toyota unintentionally created a car with a very long life shell? Because these cars just seem to last so long. Worth the investment though.
this vehicle has no planned obsolescence at all. mine is 25yo, 130.000km and still rolling strong.
Mine is a 1994 4WD with 450,000 Km. Still running like a champ.
I like the kouki model Estimas. The headlights and taillights look so cool! I also noticed that there are a TON of Estimas and Previas in Canada when i went to Vancouver this summer.
do the cars have to have their petrol tanks drained? or can they be sent to the USA with petrol in them

Lovely looking Previa, that's what the Estima is called here in North America. My only complaint would be their lack of a second sliding door on the left side passenger door. Most minivans today have sliding doors on both the driver's side and the passenger's side. That would've made it easier to get in and out of the van from either side.

the car has only one disadvantage - the load is limited at about 500kg. cause rear suspension is pretty weak.

brake master cylinder and air intake box are reversed. 1991 and up to 1992 Previa were bulletproof, built like tanks. I have never seen interior that holds up as good as this car . I have a 26 year old Previa, and the interior is practically brand new and it's always outside in the sun and rain. Whatever they used for the material they need to use it on the Siennas, as my 10 year old Sienna's dash is cracked and I have seen the same problem on every single Sienna.
What was the end cost of the auction and import on this vehicle?
is the holy grail version the awd supercharged version that came in later years? i only read about them never seen one in person...
Yup. That's the Holy Grail version. They are very good, it's true.
I have a ‘93 Previn, same color with dual sun roofs on mine. 150k miles on it, runs like new.

I am curious, when you say the vehicle needs to be inspected for radiation, does this have to do with what happened at Fukushima, or is this something different? Forgive my ignorance, I just haven't known of an inspection like this.
+rml695 Yes, after the Fukushima thing, the radiation checks started. They are 1500 yen at my main port but it varies.

+gugurobert My stat catalogue shows it is a 7 seater but I wonder if they were available with both. Perhaps my stats only show the 7-seat version...? There are some vehicles like the Delica that are like that. You are absolutely right... the third seat would have to be right in the back and it looks like there is only space for two there.

One of mine is 340k AWD, and the other is 191k AWD I bought recently as an upgrade.
the us comes with a sunroof and the other thing is that the door is on the other side

Changing the oil on these things-- what a rigamarole.
why? It has a magnetic bolt at the bottom of the sump, like any other car, and then you fill up the oil tank from the front bonnet, almost all services are at the front. Oil filter is underneath and VERY easy to screw out as it has plenty of space.
I've changed the oil on like 50 of these.. you wouldn't imagine what you find under the seat that the owner forgot to take out.. or what else you might encounter! XD
here in Australia they call these a toyota tarago and are fwd I feel like we got ripped off not getting awd haha

previa in the us we got rwd or awd on ours but i am pretty sure some of the jdm ones have a stick shift 5 speed.
No, this model was rwd, (apart from the 4 x 4 version, rare in Australia) the next model introduced in 2000 was fwd.

Spin seat lmfao!!! chrysler had that option in 2008 but it failed ( good thing tho), and the moonroof, shame toyota didn't carry that option to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Gen sienna ( until it's mid cycle refresh)

It is also 50-50 weight balanced and uses a cool driveshaft system to place the alternator, PS, and AC accessories in a rateable place through the hood. the engine engine is almost laying flat on its side and these are known to hit 300,000 miles in many cases.

+Aaron Li Imagine back to 1990 and a 20 year old lot boy, earning 5 USD/hour encounters the space-egg Previa, unlike anything being sold in the US at the time. He can't imagine ever being able to afford something like a Previa, much less a Previa Alltrac. 25 years later he sees this 16,000 mile Estima 4WD, and starts thinking...hmm. By now, most US Previas have rusted out and are junked. Out west, there are rust-free Previas, but they have 200,000 - 500,000 miles. Estimas don't pull good money at auction, typically 300-600 USD...this one a little more. So, with fees, customs, shipping and so on he gets what he considers a special car, and could easily be driven as a daily driver, for less than 5,000 USD. ...And of course, one can't deny the "still JDM yo" pull!
+blackout-coyote Back in the late 80s and early 90s was a weird time for Japanese car makers. Imagine you take the school librarian and give her cocaine... she lets down her hair for the first time and does all sorts of crazy things before coming to the realization that this is not sustainable.
