Awwwww.....I love this song! Haven't heard it for years. I've been thinking of it for months now, but couldn't remember the name of it (I now remember it was covered by Garth Brooks). This is one of those rare songs, where the lyrics are so personal, that it brings a lump your my throat every time you hear it. I may never have been a cowboy, or have lived in America, but these lyrics sum up how I feel about life! In fact, I'm a woman, from the UK, but I got the travel bug in my early 20's, and was travelling/working my way around the UK for years, with just my racing bike, my walking boots, and a rucksack, spending my spare time out in the wilderness, where the only thing you could hear was your heart beat. I never did settle down, with the 2.2 children and a dog. The only thing that stopped me in my tracks was illness. I'm now 53 yrs old, very ill, alone, and am unable to get out walking in the mountains and wilderness of Scotland.....but I have my memories ☺. Thank you for posting this song up. It was beautifully done, and brought tears to my eyes.
I use'ta sing this lullaby whilst packin' mules for tourists, err 'clients' in the John Muir and Ansel Adams Wilderness areas, back in my younger daze. It seemed to help settle the stock through our daily toils. It certainly did me! Jerry Jeff Walker song from the early 70's Night Riders Lament... Had a GF a couple 100 miles away studying to become a nurse. She "got it"...then eventually "didn't". 🤣
