That's him in the corner. That's him in the spotlight calling Trump a liar.
@Siobhan M No doubt.
He...drumpf has always been a liar! It comes straight from his mouth and tweets!
Biden is in his basement watching cuties.
@Siobhan M There's lots of songs that are on a loop in my head. You reminded me of one of them ... today it's mostly Sting - Don't stand so close to me.
Dr. Mantis Toboggan: ...Stipe also called Donald Tiny John Trump a “bloviating Puff Adder”!
I’d say DTJT is an orange-stained Haggis-bag, with the most “tremendous” slime-trail of criminality to ever sully our Presidency.
"Nightswimming deserves a quiet night..."
Michael Stipe is such a good guy... Like, Seth was taking about wishing he hadn't wasted his time with their mutual friend before his passing and amidst his own emotional distress, Michael relayed a story of his own missed opportunities to talk with that friend. Beautiful soul.
r.e.m. was a huge part of my life in high school - nothing but love and respect for Michael
I met Michael at The Gyro Wrap in Athens, GA back in the "Life's Rich Pageant" days. ✔ Good guy confirmed.
Yeah i too wish i had spent time with people and or pets ive lost its traumatic to lose anything you love in any way so i hope people know that im wishing you well and im sorry if times are hard vote and remember how blessed we are to be here
We all do it. The change is gonna come.
All thru this 6months and the million zoom interviews...Stipe is Only one I've seen in a Rocking Chair, because...of course he is! Awesome
🤣🤣🤣
Watching Stipe burst into genuine tears of sadness. how poignant. I love seeing the kindness and humanity in people. Spontaneous tears from missing another human being is exactly what I do NOT see from the president, or any shred of concern for human life other than his own. The contrast is stark.
you ever see a tear on Trumps face , I'm betting a child kicked a spur .
Sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know a trick to log back into an instagram account?
I somehow lost the password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me.
@Griffin Talon Instablaster ;)
@Lucas Xavier Thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm.
Looks like it's gonna take quite some time so I will get back to you later with my results.
@Lucas Xavier It worked and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy!
Thanks so much you saved my ass :D
What a beautiful, gentle person Michael Stipe remains to this day ❤❤❤
holy smokes yeah... I didn't expect this to be moving
Michael Stipe is a national treasure. Not only talented as hell, but a genuinely good person.
It's such a pleasure watching him speak.
Reality where it's strong, and where it's weak
Could not agree more!
I can't believe I forgot what a lovely human being Michael Stipe is. We need him now more than ever.
Amen.
Machelle Wood I agree, and I fully expect to see him in a setting full of eclectic art pieces and other cool objects, (like he was here). But dude, idk if that was a Zoom backdrop, or like what is that huge metallic sculpture right behind him? Of course that all just distracted me from their chat. 'Tho I assume Michael was saying something along the lines of: "It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine)"? Just a guess.
@@jcdc1824 I was wondering about the background too! :)
@Snaggle Toothed How on earth do you know this?
@Snaggle Toothed And how old was he at the time? And were other kids involved?
Michael Stipe, you are a gem.
I love you, dude. You totally influenced my worldview as a teenager.
I once gave you a light in the basement of the old ERC in Athens back in the early 90’s. Saw you around town many times while in college. Don’t regret playing any of that down for a minute because that just how we were.
But I do hope you know how much you meant to me.
Here am I am in middle age and “Fables Of The Reconstruction” and “Life’s Rich Pageant” still bring me immense joy and the fondest memories (you gave us kids hope in the Reagan Era).
Thank you and Buck, and Berry, and even Mills (who once hit on the girl I was with and got rejected😂) for all of you being ever true.
Gotta admit, the irony of political commentary right now from the guy who brought us "It's The End Of The World As We Know It" is thick as hell
Often that song comes to mind lately too.
There's a group called Parody Project that does political parodies
And one of their songs is based on the REM song. It's the end of the world as we know it.
It's definitely a must see video. And I urge others to watch it
Don’t forget Exhuming McCarthy, from same year (1987). Or Ignoreland (1991).
Proof if ever it were needed when you think things cannot get any worse - people.
And they've just released a brand new video today.
It's called
Lazing on a COVID afternoon.
Anyone reading this should check it out
That's the. Parody Project on Utube

Michael Stipe looks like he's on the set of a Tim Burton film. I like it.
I saw REM in Nottingham at the City ground. I have to say Michael Stipe was such a beautiful soul, he has an electric aura.
Over 25 years ago I met Peter Buck of R.E.M. after an in studio interview at WXRT in Chicago. I had just toked a bowl of weed, he smelled it, & asked if I had some for sale. Not really, I said. So he asked if I wanted to go to see them later that night at their sold out show & pulled out 2 all access passes. A trade he proposed. We exchanged weed for passes & I took a buddy to the show. Great time.
Cool story!
What an awesome claim to fame bro.
"A trade he proposed." 😂👏👍 (admit it brother, you're high right now. aren't you?)👌🏼🇺🇸👍👍🇺🇸
Cool. I trust you saved some for the show. Stay safe and well neighbour - I’m off to light up a legal bowl now 🍁
Thank you for sharing, that's great!
Michael Stipe; such a good soul.
Fun fact some people might not know about Michael Stipe: He's the godfather of Kurt Cobain's daughter. Kurt was quite fond of Stipe and with R.E.M.
With this president we are living "ITS THE END OF THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT " right now. That's how sad it is in our country right now.
It is sad. His followers/supporters/herd don't care that he lies incessantly
Actually Trump is the only thing holding this country together right now. If Biden was in it would be mass pandemonium. We would be in a lot worse shape than we are now.
Trump is holding back and letting the state governors ruin their own states with the looting and rioting. He will come in and clean it up later when they are finished ruining their states.
D Davis Saying that Trump is lying is a liberal media myth. You can say he lies all you want but at some point you have to have proof of it.
Just saying he lies doesn’t make it true.
@@aerodave1 proof, he said he brought down black unemployment. Fact it went from 16% during Obama to less than 8% when he left office. Fact. He initially said he didn't pay Stormy Daniels, once they thought he paid her with campaign money, he said he paid her...theres not enough space to mention every lie, ask he's wives what a liar he is, since his vows before God are broken like chips in a bag
aerodave1 Trump once said his dad was born in Germany, but the birth certificate states the guy was born in New York. That’s clear proof Trump is a pathologically lying peace of crap.
“In America the Struggle was befogged by the fact that the worst Fascists were they who disowned the word "Fascism" and preached enslavement to Capitalism under the style of Constitutional and Traditional Native American Liberty. For they were thieves not only of wages but of honor.”
― Sinclair Lewis, It Can't Happen Here 1935 !!!
I had a chance to see REM in 1989 in Morgantown, WV, but I declined. *slaps forehead*
Damn....I feel you.
at The Dry House/ Underground Railroad? Marsha Lives! (where's Marsha?)
nm.. by 89 surely they played at the Coliseum
Saw the Green tour. Still my favorite band.
Got to see them during the Up tour in Minnesota. At the end of the third encore, End of the World, a storm snapped open in the skies and by the time everyone made there way to parking lots near the Saints baseball field where the show was played everyone was stripped down to their underwear because of how soaking the rain fall was. Of all the shows I have witnessed I will never forget the amazing time had while hundreds/thousands of strangers played in the rain together wearing only their underwear. Best Show Ever
"That's me in the corner".
What a wonderful soul.
I love Michael 💕. He's a genius
I'm so sorry Michael and Seth for your friend passing away. I'm sending positive thoughts to both of you :)
Michael Stipe is just a beautiful human being (If more people were like him this world would be a much better place to live in)
A sack of lies? Not the “sack of” I usually associate with politicians!
Actually, I was thinking the very same thing....
I
Totally LOVE Michael Stipe! REM one of my favorite all time bands! AND he’s also intelligent! A grand slam!
One of my best epi of Seth is having Michael on the show...my all time fave artist....
You don’t have to say “think”. Trump being a liar is a well established fact
Our don’t want to take responsibility commander and chief has allowed more than 200,000 plus deaths to occur on his watch this is equivalent to these cities population:
Largest US cities: Cities ranked 101 to 200
Rank City, State 2010 population
101 Rochester; New York 210,565
102-Richmond; Virginia 204,214
103 Spokane; Washington 208,916
104, Des Moines; Iowa 203,433
Two Rose Bowl stadiums, 206,000 unless I'm mistaken.
You can’t blame any of the deaths on Trump. You can place the blame squarely on the governors of the states. Trump had nothing to do with that since it’s the states responsibility.
@@aerodave1 you must have that "herd mentality" where trump kills 200000+ and you still vote for him
Stipe's a true humanitarian who puts his money where his mouth is. He seems comfortable being 60, sitting in his rocking chair on Zoom, typewriter in the background, speaking the truth.
"Crazy crazy world, crazy crazy times..."
-Fireplace, off REM's hit album Document
Document is my soundtrack for this year.
Right on, my friend.
REM is one of America’s best bands ever.
Awesome interview, thank you.
Its the end of the world as we know it..
and I feel fine.
The lyrics of that song contain the word "trumped".
@@gls600 now i have to google the lyrics...that song was released when I was in high school...been a minute.
bloviating puffadder(sp?) sack of lies. I'm constantly in search of the insult of the week.
todd shafer I call him the orange stained taint. People should realize that just on insult names alone we spend way to much time giving this hateful, arrogant, septuagenarian grifter and his enablers access to the airwaves, but really what choice do we have. Imagine how much the USA would be in trouble if he had no press looking over his shoulder. I can almost guarantee that if not for the press your freedoms would be gone (if you’re not a trump sycophant) and he would have installed himself as Putin and Kim Jongs “bend over buddy” a long time ago. It’s amazing that we still have to go through our “daily dictionary of deceit and depravity” to discuss this idiotic diaper rash. This UA-cam response brought to you by the letter “d” and made possible by readers like you.
Bloviate...OMG....I am totally blown away by the accuracy of that term directed at "lil donny trump". No caps in that, because "little stumpy fingers" or "baby hands" doesn't qualify for caps...Thank you Michael Stipe...I am humbled by your wit and sincerity.
I'm glad you mentioned Reagan. While the GOP was already heading down a dark road (e.g., the "Southern Strategy), Reagan's election and the people and policies he brought with him gave that direction of the GOP legitimacy and acceptability. He was the "Teflon President", after all.
He already had Alzheimer’s. If you remember, bobblehead Nancy had to constantly whisper into his ear. Ha! “The Great Communicator”. 🙄 Oh, how quickly people forget, eh?
It's so important for people to know they can vote early in person to avoid waiting in a long line on Nov 3rd.
Michael looks like a reboot of Max Headroom.
Lol.
Now that's a show we need.
"I'm M-m-m-Michael Stipe and that was "Orange Crush" by REM! Because we must all crush the orange one."
🤣
No he doesn't
I'm still concerned how many people will be voting for him.
Jesus! Ain’t that the truth?? Do ANY of those people live in reality???
yeah I want a LANDSLIDE VICTORYfor biden/Harris!!!
thats the only thing that counts. if its close that means theres too many selfish greedy people in our beautiful (otherwise) Country.
@J G got the 'subtex'. but I wonder if its a good idea...after all, if they cant figure it out, its probably not worth the effort.
@J G I wouldn't mind if their reality worshiped knowledge instead of buffoonery. It's so ironic that something that started out to be the best way of getting the most information to the most people (the internet) became the catalyst of misinformation.
Stipe seems 20 years younger now than during the 90s. What gives...
Oh thank God he shaved that beard! I'm not on quite the same political page as he is, but after 30+ years of amazing lyrics/music, he has my total respect. He's a kind, empathetic, and intelligent guy with the guts to speak his truth.
That should be Micheals next song Sack of Lies.🎼🎼🎙
Keep making records Michael, they're really good, we need them.
Lovely, lovely people 😍
Very cool. Someone who puts their money where their mouth is! 😊
Michael looks like the Riddler from an upcoming Batman movie!!...Love him and REM forever, big part of the soundtrack of my youth and still today. Looking forward to his solo work.
It’s the end of the world as we know it, and I’m losing my religion. Country: feedback?
How can 48 people dislike this interview? A shining moment for Seth's career as a talk show host. What a beautiful man Michael is.
Amazing band. Fortuitous much? 'It's the end of the world as we know it' should be the theme song that Trump steals for his rallies. Maybe his sheep would get a clue.
I love Michael Stipe.
"Bloviating puff adder sack of lies" is just...splendid.
Doesn't that completely bypass Trump's failed Casino, steakhouse company, University, and Charity?
I love these men. What a beautiful video. Such a fan of Hal Willner too.
We need more stories like this. I can’t wait til trump no longer dominates the news cycle. This made me feel human for a minute.
Thanks, Seth, for inviting Michael! Conscious R.E.M. is what, not only the US, but the whole world, needs!
One doesn’t experience self-transcendence, the illusion of self only dissipates✌️Non-Duality
Michael; great looking room with a typewriter! Come on back and sing and dance for us again...please.
It seems to me that there is a bit of light if we turn and look back over the past 6 months. People who had any technical concept of websites besides the voicemail, weather reporting and Facebook have suddenly been forced into the world of Zoom, TicToc and other forms of communicating. I think this has wonderfully allowed our older or out of touch citizens to now be able to navigate something like a website teaching all about how to vote in different ways and the timeframes when they can start voting in their own state. Colbert has done an excellent job, making a video for each of the 50 states to explain who, what, when and where...because every state is different. And obviously Micheal Stipes and other celebrities have taken the same step to try to help people find out all the details on voting....and they can even fill out the ballot and mail it online when that option becomes available in their state. So maybe there is a bit of silver lining to this pandemic mess by forcing people to become more aware of what the internet has to offer, beyond the common things for finding how how Johnny or Joan made out their first day of school, or how to send an emoji and just what do they mean? The sooner Trump is striped of his power as President, and the sooner ANYONE is allowed to take the reins of power to start fixing this mess, at least in the USA but in cooperation with the rest of the world, especially in revitalizing the CDC and other labs who, in collaboration with other top notch organizations around the globe to find a vaccine and develop a plan to inoculation as many as possible as quick as possible. THEN they can start dealing with the Medical situation (Medicare I think it is called - I am Canadian and we ALL have free medical care, including major operations and drugs while in the hospital, with health insurance that covers 80% or more of the cost of drugs with provisions to cover major issues like cancer treatment and drugs, heart bypasses and replacement and other organ replacements), the border wall and control of policing methods, training and stronger control of abuse, murder and lastly making the officers responsible for bypassing the law to be taken to jail and kept there until they are charged with whatever offence....including murder. Anyway, enough said, we all know the issues and I hope and pray for the USA and the need for change within the government. It is abundantly clear, from a neighbor to the north, that the current form of government is NOT workable, where a group of shakey old men and women totter around and vote to keep a murdering creep who is so in love with himself he cannot even understand the most simplistic issue that literally millions of American citizens have to deal with daily, affecting themselves, family if they have one and relatives who are also in trouble, normally for them or due to this crisis. If the damn president can wave his hand and create $2 Billion out of nowhere, with no chance of ever repaying it, why can't he help out the millions without jobs, or don't have the skills for jobs that are required, and no money to have anyone look after their kids while the are working. This is so stupid it makes me sick. VOTE VOTE VOTE....please.
The reason for trumpy not being awarded for worst liar is that ALL his supporters, senators incl., are running a close 2nd place and...as usual, right 'behind' him.
The title of this video is pretty much......well duh
I am not from the US and i wonder who are they talking about at the end. Can someone help me out? Thanks..
The person they are discussing is Hal Willner. He was mostly known for his role producing a wide range of different musical artists. He was also a musical producer on Saturday Night Live for a long time, which was how Seth knew him. He was really an amazing person, and he worked with so many great artists like Marianne Faithfull, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Rufus Wainwright, Sonic Youth and many others. My favorite thing he ever did was creating albums that had a theme of some kind, and assembling the most amazing collections of people to contribute songs to it. If you ever want to listen to any of them, one of my favorites is called Stay Awake. This came out in the late 80s and was a compilation of covers of classic Disney film music. It had Michael Stipe, Tom Waits, Los Lobos, Bonnie Raitt, Sinead O'Connor, Ringo Starr, Yma Sumac, James Taylor, Betty Carter, NRBQ, Harry Nilsson, Sun Ra, The Replacements...I mean, it was incredible. Just a recommendation from a big music lover if you are ever looking for something unique to listen to.

He's a beautiful modern gothic grandfather figure.
I've always loved Michael Stipe, but now I fucking love Michael Stipe. Couldn't have said it better brother.
Anyone who thinks Reagan was crap is okay by me.
A talented and sensitive man. So articulate with his words too (both in his lyricism and in speech).
Michael crying for Hal is so touching.
I don't think I'd be able to handle meeting Michael Stipe. R.E.M. was the very first band I got MEGA into and his voice still shoots through my heart and soul unlike most other artists do. He's like my cool, weird, art/ alternative dad who just does his own thing.
Like right now, where he seems to be living in the mansion from Edward Scissorhands.
My absolute favourite REM song is “Imitation of Life”. Also kind of appropriate in these unreal times with that piece of fakery in the WH, supported by deluded cultists.
R.E.M is one of my favorite bands!!!! Michael Stipe you are a brilliant poignant and talented man. VOTE!!!!!!
"What next?"
I suspect he drops the metaphor, grows to Gozillian proportions, and proceeds to destroy the country?
It looks like Stipe is on the long abandoned set of Naked Lunch.
Great show, Seth. An honor to see Mr Stipe on board. America is under a ruthless dictator. From Québec, we are praying for your democracy!
Trump feels a strong connection to Scotland, he gets his skin tone from Irn-Bru
Great conversation. Hal Willner was one of my best friends back in high school.
Trump excelled at being a "reality tv star". The lowest form of entertainer next to being a mime.
Michael Stipe breaking down, but somehow holding it together, is heart wrenching.
REM is still one of my favorite bands of all time, and I cannot wait to hear more of his solo work
Seth, you have to have him back that wasn't enough. Also a great point to be made there, know exactly where you're going and what you need to vote. If you're going in person, don't let some last second obstacle prevent you from doing so.
Michael Stipe is a wonderful beautiful human being. Xo
Michael Stipe is the fucking best. Love that guy.
Bloviating.. best description of trump

That was such a lovely, emotional interview.
Don't forget he's a failed democratic presidential candidate too!
He’s a sack of lies and something else.
I know that feeling, when you procrastinate returning a call, email or text from a friend, then find that they passed.
I had it happen in 2012, when my bonsai Master had called me from the hospital, and left me a message. I put it off calling him thinking I would see him over the weekend, then got a call from his wife that he had died.
I cried. A lot. And I think he was trying to tell me something in the message but wanted to tell me more in person, thinking I would call him back.
I didn't know how sick he was, he hid the cancer from everyone including his wife.
Seth, you are such a fanboy.
Never apologize, Michael.
