I went to Galapagos islands for 2 weeks in 2019, I ate all these fruits that is shown and more: custard apple, snake fruit, different varieties of Guavas, bananas, Jackfruit....They even had in Mom and pop stores selling icecream with all these fruit flavors, best one I liked was Guava icecream. Even in southern part of India , KERALA, where I come from, we have all these tropical fruits and more!
When I first tried Rambutan at the local Sam's Warehouse, and the person that gave us one to try said that you eat the seeds too. So I just put the fruit in my mouth and eat the whole thing. The seed tastes like an almond. But I recently read that you should boil the seeds first. I don't know if it is because they may be potentially poisonous, but I ate a lot of them raw before, and nothing bad happened to me.
I left the island of Trinidad some fifty years ago, I have not seen these fruits in so many years, that I had forgotten the names, but we called them by different names, but excellent description. thanks as always Mary the explorer.
OH! I'm so sorry! I'll go in and fix the description now. Thank you so much for reminding me. And yes, you're the second person to ask for closeups.....I failed as a youtuber on that one, but I promise closeups next time!!
I know!! We found more granadilla today (it's been a few weeks since I made this video). Put them in a banana, pineapple, grandilla smoothie------delicious!!!!
Teta de chola The granadilla makes spectacular flowers The passion fruit gets a lot sweeter as it wrinkles up. Sometimes it looks way past its prime, that's when it's sweeter. Red Maracuya is a bit sweeter than yellow maracuya
Ooo! Good to know about the grandilla ripening! I have germinated a lot of seeds and hope to have some soon! And yes, I like the purple maracuya better than the yellow. Brian prefers the yellow. I have seeds sprouting from both. :)
Yes, we grow a lot here already! And I germinated sapote and granadilla from the ones in this video (still waiting on the rambutan to sprout!). We have a lot of pineapples planted, but not ready to fruit for quite a while. I'm jealous of your pineapples!
@@didnot6961 I have one large jackfruit tree on the property, but something's wrong with it and the fruit is messed up. We call it our "jacked up jackfruit"! Bought two more saplings that are going in the ground today.
As always, awesomeness! Though one word of caution. Before trying something find out a little about it first. For example, people not knowing about yucca could become poisoned if they do not thoroughly cook it. Also with cashews. The fruit one can eat after rinsing with water from the tree. But the cashew nut that everyone is familiar with must be thoroughly roasted or it too could be lethally poisonous. A family member of mine who was a recent arrival from the U.S. sneaked a couple of cashews before they were done roasting when the person roasting temporarily went to grab the ringing phone. Well, the sneaker ended up going to the E.R. to have their stomach pumped out. You could actually see their intestines bulging from their belly! Those are just two very popular ones I can think of. There's another one referred to in Spanish as "Mamón" or "mamones". Best to eat those in the company of someone else who knows the Heimlich manoeuvre because the seeds are a choking hazard. lol
Yes, as an educator and a scientist I research everything about our new fruits and veggies- from the scientific name to cultivation to edibility before it goes in my mouth!
In streets markets you could find many kinds of fruits with a really cheap price, fresh and good quality compared to super markets with air conditioner🤣. All citrics, plantain, bananas, passion fruits, dragon fruit, pinnaple, cherrys, mamones, papaya, guanabana, and many more; same with vegetables. Enjoy the rich of tropic 😁. Grettings from Panama.
I must say, I have family that has been able to grow a variety of maracuyá up in the U.S. Northeast for the past couple of years. Before that it would only flower. So, I guess, aside from the drawbacks of the now frequent tornadoes, that is a benefit of global warming. lol I told them next time they should try their luck at coconut trees! lol It's only a matter of time!

2:20 You said you'd put links to the fruits in the description but you forgot.
Also would be nice to get some close-up shots of the fruits.

I’ve started growing jack fruit, but it was difficult to find here in Panama

Trivia: Did you know that Hawaiian pineapples originally came from Panama?

Some of the fruits you can see in Southeast Asia
Joanie?
You have the space to grow all these fruits . Fantastic!
Yes! I have already sprouted the sapote and granadilla from this video. Waiting to see if the rambutan will sprout!
We’re literally watching this on a water bungalow deck in Isla Colon cutting up a strange fruit!!
HA! What is it?!
@@IGoPanama we don’t know but very similar to grapefruit! Very delicious

Yes, that is where we shop, the local vendor stands. Our closest air conditioned grocery store is about an hour away!
What a fun vid. Were you able to determine if you should eat the flesh of the granadillo?
Yes! We ate it. It has kind of the texture of a honeydew melon. But kind of bland tasting. Not bad, but not WOW!
Tete de chola, Indian breasts ... and the passion fruit you can add sugar when it is sour, and also make a juice ...
We made smoothies with the passion fruit yesterday. Delicious!!
