That is an amazing Vision. That’s why I love this channel as you recycle other car parts to build your ideas. It is what sets you apart from all the others. Keep on chopping sir!
Always enjoy, and Pablo always helps, he brings the lunch box of smiles
I was just about to comment the same 😂 Pablo is awesome
@@lylechapman9757 yeah I enjoy Pablo, my pit use to sit with me and watch, his name was doser, he died two months ago.
@@user-yd2pt8db6s or that’s no good sorry for your loss🥺 it’s never easy to lose a dog that’s a special
mate. Hope you’re able to find another to take his place 😊
Watching you cut up that fender I just reminded myself, "It's his to do what he wants with, at least it's finding new use somewhere". That was such a nice front end though...
Form it over original roof and make it fiberglass
I was thinking fibreglass too for strength and weight.
Except I was thinking to use the truck hood/bonnet as the plug for the mold, as it actually has the shape Brent is looking for, albeit back to front.
I started to see your vision when you put the first piece up after all the cutting. Then when you put the second piece up I thought yeah he's got it! Up to that point I thought you lost your mind. ❤️ Impressive!!!
sounds like you need another Karl visit so you guys can do a little imagineering metal shaping class again. You with your vision and Karls skills with moving metal you guys would set the world on its edge
Absolutely
Really enjoyed seeing you brainstorming around the top, I was waiting for this moment to happen ! Thx again Brent for taking time to video all that, which is something you do well too.
Fiberglass roof with aluminum strapping inside for strength
I have done what you are describing. I built the bones of the roof from wood. Then I added my vinyl to my liking. Took everything apart and modified an old convertible top frame to make it work. I had turned a 53 Chevy into a convertible. It took me I think two or three months as I was only 18 at the time. I’m 75 now. lol!
Awesome job. That roof will look awesome. Thanks Brent
You didn't get a lot done, but you got the right part done!
Liking the shape and profile of this new top. Just keeping cutting pieces and tacking them together until you get what you want. Really nice work on this. Look forward to seeing more of this top come together. Be safe and stay well.
Haha I never would have thought a fender could be a roof. Pretty cool Brent. Looked like a big ‘ol rockabilly hairdo when you first put it up there
I never cease to be amazed at your creativity. I like it.
This is going to be a awesome roof
Hey Brent, baby steps a lot of fiddling around but you did make some forward progress. It does look good and as long as you fit in comfortably you’re on the right path. Love how Pablo is there and always ready to help you. Later
i see where you're going with the roof, if i was doing it i think I'd use the frame you made cover it in mesh and fibre glass it.A lot of work but completely moldable to get the shape just right,it should be reasonably light too for taking it off and on.Whatever you do it'll look right in the end.Kep it up Brent it's rolling along nicely.I watch your channel before going out to my workshop in a morning it gives me some extra motivation .
The creative process is always different . Turning out really nice vert nice !
The center of the dash on these things are pretty cool.
Havent seen you fab a roof like that in a long time, Brent. You have amazing foresight.
Brent, l really like the progress on the top. The back of the top matches the back of the front fender! I see what you see! Great job, nice video, God bless jim
I like that roof line, Brent 💯.
This is how some great cars back in the day were built just a thought I think this is neat
Very enjoyable and I like the direction yhe top is going Brent. God bless
What a challenge on getting a suitable roofline. Trial and error indeed. Very challenging indeed,
but you are getting it done in a pleasing fashion. We all know this roof is just going to get better
and better. We are cheering as you add each piece needed. Very exiting to watch as it comes
together. You got us hanging on to each piece of roof you add. Great! 😊😊
ALWAYS a pleasure watching your UA-cam channel!!
It takes a long time to get it right, take your time! It's faster than rushing and doing it over again. It looks great BTW.
Well young man that was a awkward start but success!More please .
I would check the roof stash for the front heard just to make it easier. You nailed the side. Good job.
Amazing how you figured that out and made it look ĝreat. Awesome. 👍👍
Hola 🇦🇷 🚘 está quedando espectacular!!!! Y no te olvides de la remera que te pedí 😢😢😢
Excellent video Brent :) , yes got Studebaker looking to agree to and so cool too ! Also yes Pablo, Buddy favorite word in 3 is house , food , snacks Lol !
Did a removable chop hard top. I did a very minimal frame. Basically an perimiter frame with 3 bows. Glued felt to the frame then fiberglassed the felt to have a start to my shell. Couple layers of glass to get a solid shell about 1/8th inch thick. Then I did canvas to fit it. Looked like a soft top but worked perfectly. I welded nuts in my truck body. Two allen heads in the the front 3 on the rear. Bolted on an off in like 3 minutes when it was done. Just a thought for the future.
Looking at all the much respected comments made.before this ...All I can say is when it comes.to Brent trust the process😊😊😊
creation in progress Brent , you got the shape ! 👍🏼
Brent you have to start some where and I think you have a Great start 👍👍
The toughest parts, just take a lot of time. 👍 looking good.
Wow! When you first threw the fender up there I thought you were going to go for the Lord Helmet (Space Balls) look! :)
For catches on the roof, fix ends of seat belts ( push to release end )mounted rigid on the body of the cab, and the buckle end on the roof frame, several of my friends use this method on their roadster lift off tops. Neville H, Australia
It looks great Brent. Wondered if you were on the wrong track but it's looking amazing as always, 😂 Joe
Hey Brent maybe consider making the door glass/ opening the same shape as the opening of the front fender, it would give the build some symmetry and a bit more axcess into the truck.
Just a thought.
That was fun to watch the process work itself out. I spent most of the video thinking "how is that going to turn in to a roof!??!". Then wouldn't you know it, by the end it looked like a nice roof profile!
Nice work as always!
Green car at the start is slick🎉
I love it when you take us out to the yard. To dig around for parts with ya.
But I also like the way you are building it as well. I like the process of how you are build your truck.
Good.job Nice show cool shop cool truck GMC 😃👏👏👏👍👍👍👍😍
A chop here a chop there and then success Brent!
I don't know about the rest of you? I saw it was a good idea and I saw the shape early on. Brent did it methodically and made it look like what I saw in those shapes. That was very cool.
Hey amigo, it’s all good! You are a visionary who can convert it into reality. Well done.☮️
That is starting to remind me of the roof line on an old Mercury truck, only shorter. Unique look for sure, but I cannot see a logical transition for the glass. I'm sure you will nail it, as usual. Cheers...
I am constantly amazed by your vision when it comes to fabrication. Your ability to “see” what could be in a fender/hood/roof panel etc. is uncanny. It was awesome seeing you visiting Puddin’s Fab Shop.
How about a -- BUILT IN PEAKED VISOR ? ___ I like the overhang in front of the windshield !
Love this video. Inside the mind of... I think you need to channel your inner Dodge Hotrod mind. When you were working on that body, you didn't even seem to think twice. You just cut and paste.
Brent let me tell you about my experience when I didn't have some kind of brace on the top of my windshield on a rod I built out of a hillman minx .
I ended replacing the glass three times before I put a top channel to brace the top of the glass.
I also weirded a half by half inch to the back of the channel to give the top extra strength.
I think maybe you should try using 1/4 inch rod and make a frame that gives you the shape your after .Then maybe after you could stretch some naga hide or cavas over top and leave a flap around the edge so you can sew some velco on the outside perimeter to wrap around the frame taunt and fasten it. It will be light and easy to make a new top using the old one as template. Or if you want to get real fancy sew loops on the egde of your shin and slide bars in so you can use hog clips like upholstry on a seat. Have corisponding little bars welded on the frame to give the hog clip a home to latch on.That way you can make the windows line up with the top.Maybe sew a drip edge just above the side window. Food for thought Brent Good luck!
Enjoyed watching your mind work !!! Thank you !
One of your best videos. I was laughing my ass off at your expense. Sorry Brent…..lol👍👍
You are genius Dude!
Brent how about a trunk lid. The shape might work. I love this channel.
Its fun watching you problem solve and design on the fly, makes us feel part of the process , I find myself saying no that's not working , there that's awesome , move it over , ya right there lol
Your vison never cesses to amaze me Brent , Also a visor would look super cool (Nothing for a man of your talent )
Have you ever thought about a Model A pickup style convertible top? You would have the height and the roundness around the back and the front header panel would be built in to the top.
That whole ridge on the fender piece you were using seemed to match well with the top of the doors and the top of the bedrails you created. It almost seemed like it would have made a great "drip rail" overlapping the door glass (kind of like how you made that piece at the bottom of the doors to overlap and meet the rockers). If you went that route, you might have to adopt the "window drop" feature a lot of convertibles like my Tbird uses when I open the door and it drops the glass slightly.
Probably not your intention but man I was giggling through this one! Awesome job man
That's a lot, mine blowing, like you know what, for me, can't wait to see what it's going to turn out like, YO Man, Thanks, torture but so freaking neat, Thumbs Up!...
Looks great, can’t wait to see what’s next 👍🏻
Wire mesh, spray foam , shave it to shape , fiberglass ! Use a chopper gun to spray the glass on like bathtubs are made . It will be somewhat light .
Thanks for taking the time to discuss your design process and explaining it so well.
Lots of trial and error, but in the end you use what you have. Good video.
Dont beat yourself up Brent. We enjoy your videos. Keep them coming.
Exactly what I was thinking Studebaker top it looks like but honestly it looks cool still yet
You nailed it. love the roof
Pablo is so awesome. He always brings a smile to any video 😁
Definitely they were very nice Plymouth fenders Brent But it looks very nice
I really enjoyed the process, and I like the look.
I had a 82 toyota pickup with a removable top, it had aluminum pieces that mated the front and back and had special latches (like huge zuetz fasteners) and a flat wrench that fit in a slotted hole. It leaked badly. Lol
Gotta say the essex in background looking on point
I like it nice window opening the headlight.Bit i'm not quite sure on😂😂😂😂
I wish I lived closer to you. I would love to build a wood frame for your truck. A laminate wood frame would be great for the shape, light weight, and vinyl you want. It could also be done as a convertible to if you choose to.
From a fellow manitoban, your envision to scrap fenders turned into a roof is amazing! Inspiring content keep up the great work.
Boy, you sure got me wondering. I think I like it too...
Hi Brett, several of my friends have visors on their rods, they either have holes punched for beter upwards visibility at traffic lights, or louvers to reduce the wind drag, Neville H
from Australia
BadChadd flexable chrome
Love that stuff❤
Wow! It just blew me away when you started looking at fenders for the roof. I never would have saw a roof there, but I'm glad you did. It's gonna be just fine, ok, it's gonna be great. Bravo
Great video Brent . It reminds me of watching you working on the coupe . Well done, you NAILED it !
At first, I was like hell no, but in the end I think it's a good start..it works in my mind.maybe a few tweaks, but it's headed in the right direction
U could use latches that they use on Jeep hard tops.😊
I laughed along with you all the way... Absolutely like watching an artist at work!
You are a genius!
I always enjoy creative process. It is the truest form of having faith that I know of... believing you will find what will need to be found. Thanks for sharing!
It's coming along!
Brent we'll have to call this build BOW-BOW lol! just kidding. Need your invision tool carboard template the window opening like you want it.
Make a Visor and punch Louvers into it.... relieve excessive air pressure that way, it will look cool too.
thank you for the show.
Hi My Dear Friend Very Very Good Job ❤❤❤❤❤
How you make things work is amazing 🤔
Love that hi tec equipment works don't it
It looks awesome. Nice job reusing old parts. Iove watching you.
A joy to watch your creative process, thanks for taking us along.
Looks good 😊
I remember my first half ass video was the one where you started with that roof...
And even then i thought to myself that would be cool...
So i will let you build my dream and in my mind i will agree or disagree with what you do to it 😉
I think maybe a trip to your friend's junkyard to look at whole truck/car roofs would save you a lot of time...
